Karate student stomps on man's head, his teacher posts the video on Youtube 25 years later

It was The Last Dragon. I remember it as being hilarious, but I suspect it has not aged well. I saw it back then on HBO or something.

But there is one good joke. The hero is a Bruce Lee wannabe, and he is in a movie theater watching some kung-fu flick or other. And he is eating popcorn with chopsticks.

Plus The Last Dragon has Appolonia.

KMPH (Fresno) news report on YouTube.

I looked at the video again. I don’t have easy access to tapes I shot in 1985 on my RCA ‘portable’ VCR and camera (connected by a cable), so I can’t compare the YouTube footage to my own. I can’t see the image in the mirror well enough to even see how big the camera is.

The static at the beginning scrolls down the screen, just like old VHS footage does. But it doesn’t show the rainbow bars slowly sinking to the bottom, which happened when you first start recording. Of course, this goes away after a few seconds. Based on the ‘static’ though, I’ve seen this on my VHS tapes of the day.

The image looks pretty good on YouTube. Then again – and this is going from memory – footage I shot back then looked pretty good too. How would the original footage look on a TV? I don’t know.

The Jesus guy does appear to be dressed in an '80s style, and his hair seems to be contemporary. The dojo guys? Hard to say. I didn’t know any Marines in the '80s, so I don’t know how their hair should look. I worked at an Air Force base, and Air Force guys tended not to shave their heads.

So just looking at the video, without really looking that closely at it, I can’t say that it was or was not definitely shot in 1984 using 1984 equipment.

What I find odd though, is that when I google ‘bobby joe blythe’ and click on News, I only get three links; one in English from the Fox site I posted earlier. If this is real, shouldn’t there be more news hits?

On the other hand, the actual stomping looked pretty convincing.

I agree. That damn video haunted me for a full day. What an ugly and brutal place the world can be. I don’t know how people can do that to another human being. The guy in video may very well have been an asshole, but he was definitely mentally ill. There is no way he deserved the treatment he got.

Sickening.

That man is obviously not breathing well at the end.

The men who committed this crime should be hunted down and jailed ASAP.

It strikes me as a mark of grotesque idiocy that the dojo owner’s reaction to a random guy walking in off the street and asking to fight was ‘oh, sure, okay’. That’s liking hanging a flashing neon sign in your window saying “lawsuits welcome”, even if you don’t stomp on the guy’s head.

What happened was a brutal act by a bunch of insecure pricks who should’ve done some time for it, but there’s no way the guy died. If you’re freaking out because you just watched a snuff video, don’t worry; you didn’t.

Thirded here. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to get that image out of my head at the end of the guy lying on the ground unconscious. Those head stomps were just cruel. Watching someone die or almost die in an accident, like a car crash as Nobody mentioned, is one thing precisely because it’s an accident. It’s terrible but it’s not intentional. This was just cruel. There was a lot of evil in that room that night.

Like some of the other posters in the thread I’m a MMA fan as well and I’ve seen some pretty disturbing fights. Bad knockouts and fights not being stopped when they should have been. But I’ve never seen anything like that. “Jesus Dude” was obviously not trained in any serious way, and he was most likely just mimicking stuff he’d seen in old Kung Fu movies. This was completely beyond the pale. It seems like a minor thing as well, but incidents like this also give the Martial Arts community another black eye as it makes people think that it’s full of nothing but thugs and knuckleheads, which just isn’t the case.

I don’t know if there’s some doubt about the legitimacy of the video, but I understand the local authorities in Virginia are investigating it. If this is the case I hope there are some serious consequences for those in the video who can be identified.

Curious, what evidence does anyone have either way? For instance, what do you base your claim on?

People die every year from falling off bikes and slipping in bathtubs.

While somewhat rare, I have no doubt a head stomping could do the same.

The movie has aged horribly, but Shonuff is still timeless.

I’m well aware of this, as I watched a guy die from falling off of a bike 8 months ago. There’s a thread about it here if you care to search. I’m not saying a headstomp can’t kill you.

I just find it extremely unlikely. For one, he was still breathing, so it wasn’t a broken neck instant death, which would seem to be most likely in that scenario, and which people on some forums are claiming. Secondly, no police investigation of a body in a dumpster? Not impossible, but very unlikely. Thirdly, the guy posted a video of a murder that he was an accomplice to on Youtube? Again, not impossible but extremely unlikely. Lastly, the guy who posted the video said he is still alive.

Put it this way: I’m not even 100% sure the video is real in the first place (even though I think it probably is), and I’m 99.99999% sure the guy didn’t die.

Well, what sort of witness on the stand do you think the victim would be? Without the tape, there is no way a jury would believe that a God Fearing, America Loving MARINE would ever do anything wrong to a mentally challenged person. Nor would they believe the claims of a person who also claims that Jesus taught him Kung Fu. It is disgusting and the decision to go ahead should be left to the DA but you bet your sweet ass it happens everywhere.

True. Though I wonder whether any kind of case was opened at all, even though it wasn’t taken far. I suppose the current investigation will be looking for possible old documents of this event.

Wouldn’t the police leaving some beaten up fellow to the doctor’s lead to some kind of report detailing the injuries and their possible reasons? I mean, I’m sure he’s pretty bruised beside the head injuries, so there would be reason to suspect foul play. Wouldn’t a doctor make such assessments? I have no clue how the system works over there.

Per the news report the police are investigating and they have the teacher’s (apparently still local) home address. The news team knocked on his door but no one came out.

Except the dude didn’t even want to fight, he just wanted to demonstrate Katas. He was into martial arts for the meditative aspects not the fighting aspects. He even said so. “I want to teach you some spiritual martial arts.”, and then later, “I’m not a fighter.”

Cisco His head was lying on top of something, not on the floor. It was a curb stomp, not just a head stomp, and he was kicked hard enough to start bleeding. Now scalp lacerations bleed profusely, but at the same time he was out cold. It’s very possible that his skull was cracked.

IMO you got about 5, maybe 6 too many 9’s there.

And if the video (and Shodan) are to be believed, there as some serious martial arts dicks out there.

I’ve got to believe it’s a fake. Who would be dumb enough to videotape it? And who would be dumb enough to not destroy the tape?
