Bizarre irk day. Some were getting clobbered with calls, others had it much slower. Not that unusual, except that I was not one of the back-to-back clobberees. The poor girl nearest me somehow got put in a queue she is not trained for, and when trying to transfer callers to someone who was, she kept getting people who weren’t, to her frustration.
The popup clown catered tonight, since their fish sandwiches are back, and I love the things.
The Princess spent some time happily whomping on a new catnip mousie and somehow got it rather soggy.
For those who don’t know, my DH is an electrician and broke his leg in a workplace accident on 6 September 2019 (a stack of sheets of drywall fell on him). Moanday, he’s back on a construction site for the first time since that incident. I think he’ll miss the thrift store he’s been doing his light duty gig at, but he’s happy to get that big step closer to something that passes for normality.
I have a possible nickname to toss out there. Feel free to ignore or dismiss it. Seanette=sea net= seine. Does seine work? If not, back to the drawing board, and we’ll get the right one eventually.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 53 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 64 and rain for the day. We are under another FLASH FLOOD WATCH. So icky, rainy day ahead. Still better than a lot of what y’all are goin’ or have been through. No biggie plans for the day which is fine by me. Ima make my world renowned Eyetalian chikin for sup. Peas 'n carrots, mac ‘n cheese (cause I want some), and rolls shall accompany. Other than doin’ that, epic sloth shall ensue.
gotti will be fine as long as the surgeons are not Sid and Marty Crofft.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
I haven’t ventured outside, so this is best guess: we got a dusting of snow overnight that’s now glazed with ice. I’m not curious enough to check it out up close and personal. We have no place to go today, so theoretically, it doesn’t matter. And the worst is supposed to be past us by noon-ish. Still, it’s dreary and below freezing and I am not amused!
The only plan for today is a leftover buffet for supper. And I’ll tread the mill - that’s pretty much the extent of my alone time these days. I suppose I could start a list for when we leave on Tues - stuff to pack, stuff daughter needs to do when she comes over, stuff I need to make sure I do before we go. Yep, that’ll be today’s excitement. I hope.
Looking for a happy thought today. Happy Thursday!
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s bright and shiny out there today. Weather app says “I’m not going to life. This day is fucking fine but I’d be ok with 15% less fucking clowns” and promises me 10C/50F all day, mostly cloudy. I am full of sympathy for those of you having such terrible weather especially in areas where you’re not used to it and the infrastructure can’t cope.
Blokie had his first covid jab today which is good for him, I have no idea when I’ll get mine but we do seem to be rattling through them. He got the Pfizer version, and hopes to get the same again next time although he’s not been given a date for his next jab.
Been doing online training with recalcitrant systems all week, it’s been quite tiring and of course that means other work has been put off and still needs to be done. Better get myself a cuppa and get on with it!
Morning all. The snow is still with us, about 2" remaining, all wet and heavy. Road is still covered so I expect very little traffic today and pretty much stay-at-home time. Used to have a snow shovel, but I think I got rid of it years ago (this is the first significant snow here in about 5-6 years). But the heat and power are still on, so I can’t complain.
Nettie, Great news on Husband-unit.
FCM, hoping for a quiet day. You’ve earned one, as has FCD.
gotti, in case you’re not already unconscious, best wishes on the operation.
OK, got my sheets in the washer and a banana in my belly, so need to continue on being constructive…or not. All y’all have a safe day.
Thanks. I’m rapidly running out of places to look, but they must be SOMEWHERE right?
Grump: I put a Pop-Tart in the toaster for breakfast, and when it was done, it slid off the part that pops up & fell back into the depths. Hasty attempts to remove it resulted in a gooey mess, so shoe may be needing a new toaster.
Anti-Grump: the electrician and his assistant is here to re-wire the basement so I can use my dryer finally.
Grump: of course, the washer has started peeing all over the floor.
Anti-Grump: perhaps one of the nice fellas thumping around the basement (and being chastised on the phone by his wife, from the sound of it!) can check the hoses & possibly tighten … something?
Got the girl to school and am slowly becoming more caffeinated. I am one of the least interesting people I know today, which is probably not a bad thing. I’m trying to figure out what to get a good friend of mine before she has her baby, something for her only. I had a copy of a board book sent to her - the same board book a dear friend of mine gave to me before she passed away from cancer. Both my kids loved it so much I remember repeating it from memory everywhere we went - in restaurants, at the doctor, on a plane to and from India. Anyway, I’m trying to think of something I can get for her that’s not baby-related and am leaning toward a donation to the temple she and her husband attend.
I feel somewhat guilty for spending just $8 on the baby part, but when I had my kids I used maybe 30% of the stuff given to me and wound up giving away the rest. Given that she’s said her husband has a mild hoarding problem, getting her more things she might not need seems problematic. Any thoughts?
Does she have hobbies or interests that might guide us?
Obviously, if she - for example - is into rock-climbing, that may be set aside for a while until the baby is older or whatever. But maybe she loves classical music, or collects vintage posters, or something along those lines … ?
Ooooh! Start a thread! Then you’ll get dozens of other Dopers chiming in!
Basement is wired! Dryer needs a new, longer vent hose, but THAT at least, I am relatively confident in doing myself.
Nice guy checked the washer connections and said they’re all tight, so … well, that eliminated that issue. I may run a tiny test load under closer supervision today, to pinpoint where in the load cycle the leak is happening.
If the washer has a leaky pump or something like that, well … let’s hope it’s not something like that.
Scrambled eggs are assimilating, and I have a big stock pot to wash after yesterday’s adventure in soup-making. Some laundry to fold and put away.
So it’s 33 degrees, and there’s ice on the trees. But I still have power, and my Senator has not flown to Cancun, so I got that going for me. Which is nice.
Gift card for food delivery - who doesn’t like a meal prepared by someone else to show up on demand??
It’s sleeting here - enough that I can actually see the nasty stuff coming down. FIL wants to go out to FCD’s shop - it’s a 100’ walk down a slight slope - probably a bad idea for a man on a cane. I just texted FCD - maybe he’ll come and walk his dad down there.
FIL had been going on and on about little plastic spacers between the panes of our insulated windows - he claimed he saw them but there aren’t any like he describes. I think I figured it out - if you have multiple panes of polarized glass arranged at offset orientations, you see patterns that resemble little round spots. He’s got new glasses, and if they’re polarized, that could explain why he sees what we don’t. That, or he’s losing his mind…
Statement for the record: I am well and truly done with this weather. Dammit.
This and keep stopping by often to let us know how you are doing.
I still have power and mostly all running water here in Nebraska. My son’s best friend just came over to spend the day saving my tush, continuing to apply heat cable and insulation to my frozen-prone pipes in the basement. Seems one area thawed last night a leak appeared and now he’s on the phone to his dad getting learned advice about fixing that leak before proceeding.
My toilet now refills on its own again, no longer needing a bucket dumping into it to flush.
VanGo, along with the stretches, heat tends to work well for me when sciatica rears its ugly head.
Yay for hubby getting back to his construction gig seanette!
While you’re likely still under the knife, good luck with the surgery gotti.
Yet another snow day. Sleet began for a bit yesterday afternoon and last night, we got 3-4 inches of snow on top of it. At this point, it’s an ice / snow / ice / snow sandwich. I do plan to go clean off the car in preparation for the possibility of being able to go to irk tomorrow. I did have to tramp down some snow so’s Nelson wouldn’t sink up to his eyeballs when I took him out this morning. Poor little guy, he’s confused by his ever-changing landscape. Get this: NWS is calling for 60F by midweek next week.
Except … it’s cold and dry in my house. How bad would it REALLY be if I just ran, like, a teeny-tiny load without venting it properly? Wouldn’t it just make my basement warm and damp, which would float upward into the home interior?
Anyway, since I had to go hunting for the damn hose, I acquired lotsa other things. I got Squeezy Crack (the entire cat food aisle was stripped bare, last time I went to Meijer) and a windup cat toy for Monkey.
You pull the mouse tail out, and it goes “BRRR! Brrrrr!” and as the tail winds back in, the mouse shoots off. I cannot WAIT to see his little face.
I also got a second suet feeder, with the intention of securing it to the main window where we all sit around.
If I can attract birds to come right where Nikki likes to sit’n’stare … !
