I still use a paper planner to remember things. If something is really, really important, I use a combination of paper planner plus reminders on my phone. I also have a fridge calendar I write things down on for the whole family to see, but I swear, it’s like the kids have learned to read but my husband hasn’t. He is still forever asking me what we’re up to on any given day. One day…
Today was another oncology day. We’ve “won” another month…so far. No telling what happens from day to day. Work has just gone off the dang rails. I would like the crazy train to stop. I mean, it’s exciting to a degree because of all the political BS, but unfortunately I’m part of the political BS now, so it’s not nearly as fun as it used to be.
I’m off to get dinner started. Hopefully we’ll have chili, but first I need to boil some beans in my instant pot. To boil said beans, I have to clean up said instant pot sleeve from its soak (I used it last night & am pretty talented at making food stick to the bottom of my instant pot). Thank goodness for baking soda - throw it on the sticky stuff and let it sit for a few minutes and, bam, stuff that’s stuck on slides right the heck off.
sari, that GSD is a handsome boy. It’s too bad that he didn’t have training as a puppy. Most herd dogs need a firm hand when young for training to take hold.
Moooooom, as I see it, you are subsidizing your daughter and SIL by ~$1K per month in child care already. Do they even have a clue how expensive it is, especially for kids in diapers?
nellie, while I have 3 double first cousins and my mom’s oldest Sis’ kids are intermarried with several members of another family, it’s nothing compared to a guy with whom I used to live. His parents had four kids, divorced and then his dad married his mother’s sister and had four more. His mom married his dad’s first cousin and had one. That made four of his sibs first cousins as well and one a second cousin.
cat glove, my grandad used to sing Sto lat after the birthday song. He emigrated from Wisla with his folks when he was two years old, so Polish was his first language.
I use the calendar app on my phone, which is synced with my tablet, desktop and my irk accounts, so I get reminders on all.
Irked, came home, walked Nelson and et. Not a whole lot shaking at CasaRoja.
Evening all. Shopping and Sammich and Swimmng and Sauna all have been accomplished and my bowels seem to me working properly again, so all-in-all it was a good day…until I decided to go to McDonalds and pick up some dinner (Moanday is my eat-out day, the rest of the week is pretty much at-home stuff). Still trying to figure out how I did it, but I apparently bent over to get in the car too fast as the door opened and I whacked my head with the corner of the upper rear portion of the door (don’t know how to describe it better). Hurt like heck and I stepped back to get my wits, when I felt blood dripping down my face and onto my glasses. Turned out I had a nice little cut above my right eye that was bleeding good, so some Hydrogen Peroxide and a bandage were applied. And then of course I proceed to Mickey D’s because heaven help me in changing the Monday order of things. Now sitting here with the stirrings of a headache and a sore spot above the eye–may look like Rocky Balboa tomorrow…
talkie, sounds like work would make a good sitcom; or maybe a replacement for Dilbert. Enjoy the chili.
CatGlove, best wishes for Hubs, sounds like he has more than a few issues; good thing for him that you are there. And grilled ham and cheese sammiches are one of my favorite food groups…
wet one, take care of yourself. Enjoy the comfy chair.
shoe, Monkey gotta do his cat thing…
Butters, that should be a nice check!!
Oopsie, that’s a nice build, like to see the entire quartet once assembled. Sorry about your uncle passing, but sounds like he has finally found peace. And cake pops sound very good…
OK, dinner has been ingested and sloth and internettin’ are on the schedule. All y’all have a good night/morning.
Please be sure to check in ASAP. I’m worried about your bonked head, especially if you’re taking blood thinners (don’t remember if you are or not). That’s how we lost my father-in-law.
So far, so good… Seriously, the cut (about 1/2 inch) has stopped bleeding (not on blood thinners) and I am not dizzy or light-headed and my balance seems fine, so I don’t think I have any worries…but thanks for being concerned.
They do know and they are appreciative, but it’s easy to take advantage, and I did let them do just that a few times. But that’s come to an end. And when we’ve needed critter sitters, they’ve done it without fuss, so there’s that.
Wasted evening. Yay! Hope I can sleep thru. Too chilly for playground time this week so the kids will go straight home. C’mon real spring!
Decent heave for a Monday, especially since we had to re scan a bunch of stuff dispatch had reassigned to another truck after Saturday’s heaving. If I have to schedule anything, I use Google Calendar, and write it down on the fridge whiteboard calendar(backup, backup, backup!.)
And I just found out that Canadian Dave passed away this morning.
Cool! The figure style kinda reminds me of Ma vs. Liver:
And sorry about your uncle.
Party at Butters’ place!
You adopt a fuzzy, sociopathic chaos generator, you get what you ask for.
I use the big calendar on the wall method. It’s what I grew up with and it’s how I am most comfortable. I also like saving my calendars and using them as a sort of yearly diary.
I saw my new doctor today and she seemed very nice and very caring. She wants me to get some tests done for nerve damage because she thinks I don’t have arthritis due to the symptoms. I really need to get this resolved, I signed up for another mystery class that starts next month.
They are a lot of fun, I know the name of the piece “Lovestruck”, I know the designer and the sample shows a heart. (Gossip ensues: Kathy usually does a mystery class every year, but didn’t last year. When I saw her at the needlework seminar, she was sporting a shiny new looking engagement ring, so I’m guessing I know where she got her inspiration!)
I will get my fabric and threads in a couple of weeks and then we will get 5 monthly classes. I’ve done 5 or 6 of them, I always enjoy them.
I paid for the class last month and got the thank you for signing up letter the next day, so kinda forgot about that part.
While I was at the doctor, hubs thought he should run to the junction and get some ice so he could cook beer tomorrow. When he got there, he realized he didn’t have his card in his wallet!!!
The last place he had used it was when he paid for dinner after watching our friend play and he has been known to leave his card in the billfold, so he went back to the venue to learn that nobody had turned it in AND that the restaurant was closed on Mondays so nobody could go in and look around for it.
When he got home, he checked our online and didn’t see anything hinky, but an hour later, Kathy charged my card the $259 for the class and of course he didn’t remember that was going to happen because I told him a month ago and his eyes just glazed over while he smiled and nodded at me.
He was able to tell that the money was for something needlework involved and was super confused as to how I went needlework shopping in Phx when my car said I was in Dewey, but waited until I got home before starting to really panic. (He also indicated that if someone had found his card and used it to buy needlework supplies or pet food…he would have just cancelled his card and not done a chargeback because sometimes good people get desperate.)
Since nothing bad has happened, he isn’t going to cancel his card until he can be at the restaurant when they open. If they can’t find it, he gets to deal with all that tomorrow (most of our bills are attached to his card).
Good to hear, but yeah, if Nette is going to worry, I will too. I was just going to commiserate about how much a tiny scalp wound bleeds*, but now I will worry instead.
I think Polish is a very pretty language. It sounds welcoming.
*I wang my head on car doors pretty regularly, but since I always wear a hat, I don’t bleed or get a bruise or anything.
Evening, everyone. I have off school tomorrow, thanks to standardised testing for another class. So I’m gonna visit my sister and take her to some dinner!
That’s how we do it, too. So when we had 3 cards in a row compromised while traveling, we got a travel card and we use the main account for everything else. So far, so good, because having to remember/modify all the billing accounts is a royal pain in the patoot!!
Another night of weird dreaming - the weirdest part being that it took place at my childhood home. I don’t understand why I dream of that place so much - I left there almost 50 years ago, and my folks sold the place in 1979, so it’s not like I visit it. Sleeping brains be weird!
Apart from the usual parent/prospective student meetings after school, my daughter has a potential expulsion board this week. She’s hoping the parents just pull the kid out - apparently he’s been a persistent not-that-terrible-but-showing-no-improvement discipline problem and they’ve reached the point of no return. I’m guessing the kid probably has issues that need to be dealt with on another professional level, tho that’s purely speculation. The more I think about it, the more I realize I would not have made a particularly good teacher. Oh, I can do the teaching part OK, but dealing with problem students and parents and administrators would have pushed me over the edge. As an aside, I do pity teachers in FL these days…
After cleaning the basement fireplace of ash, I’ll get a fire going down there and prepare for Tornado Tobias. I need to empty the sink and load the dishwasher - I kinda neglected to do that last night. And I should push the rollsuck around the living room… Not sure what FCD has planned for today - I think he’s meeting with his mom to tend to some paperwork.
I know he made an appointment for both of them with a retina specialist - his eye doc saw something that she didn’t like and since there’s macular degeneration in the family, he’s getting it checked out. (Another thing for him to worry about.) Then when his mom gets back from Texas, she’ll see the same doc. Truly, getting old ain’t for sissies.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 68 Amurrkin and mostly cloudy with a predicted high of 83 and partly N.O.S. for the day. Today is laundry day. I can hardly contain myself. Aside from that the usual sloth and general overall uselessness shall prevail. Sup shall be leftovers from last night’s sup.
MetalMouse I am too of the keepin’ an eye on your haid for a couple of days school.
GodBod have a nice visit with sis.
JtC here’s hopin’ hubs finds his card today.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
It’s currently 37 degrees with a mixture of rain/snow showers. The expected high is 49 with partly cloudy to cloudy skies and an occasional rain shower.
I usually remember my appointments, but in case I forget, I use the calendar on my phone. I don’t always remember to buy a wall calendar and I always have my phone on me, so it’s the better option. I also use the Outlook calendar on my work phone and laptop. I have to put my leave on the calendar anyway, and I use them every day. Personal appointments are noted as private on my work calendar.
I got into the office very early yesterday, made my coffee, set out the treats that I buy for my office mates, and just went straight to work. It didn’t stop all day. One thing after another kept cropping up and each situation needed instant attention. The day ended with my plugging my computer back in at home and fixing one last problem.
I stopped at Costco on my way home from work to fuel up the Jeep since their pumps don’t have the stupid plastic sleeve thingy that always seems to cause vapor lock when I use them.
Tomorrow is my last day of work for the week, and then I’m off. I’ll need to reach out to my daughter to see what time they plan to drop Zoe off on Thursday.
I have meetings, a training session, and a couple of projects to work on today. I am sure my email or Teams chats will also be pinging with “Help!” requests.
The SD came in to talk to me about another state SD asking for help because my peer in that state is gone A LOT and the MPA is also sometimes gone. I’ve often helped out that state and I told my SD I would help out, but I didn’t want anything to do with their budget, nor did I want it to be long-term. I help out the MPA because he is often alone. They have a different way of doing things, and their director seems to have a thing against the people in my role, as well as the MPAs. It’s probably fed by the fact that my peer is ALWAYS gone for reserve stuff or some family tragedy. The truth is, I’m just burned out with having cover down in other states. I try to keep it in perspective, because I may one day have to be out on an extended leave or detail, but it gets old all the same. And, the fact of the matter is, when I do help out, that doesn’t mean all the needs in my state go away. The last time I was on an extended assignment helping out a neighboring state, their people were constantly pinging me for things they shouldn’t have been AND were insulted when I didn’t respond IMMEDIATELY. I always helped them but gave my then-boss a deadline for finding a replacement. They will have problems finding a replacement due to how they do things down there with respect to telework and some micromanagement issues, plus the fact there is now a hiring pause.
Happy Birthday, boofae!
JtC, I hope the hubby finds his card.
I need to finish my coffee and load up the dishwasher.
Woke up to a message from one of our credit card companies telling us the card has once again been compromised. I’ve lost count of how many times this has happened with this outfit; at least five. I’m convinced they have a number theft ring working in their offices. If it wasn’t for the travel points I have racked up, I’d cancel it.
Nice sunrise this morning. Snow on the way later in the week. Nice view of the moonrise last evening. Grocery shopping later today, then the dreaded Costco run tomorrow.
Morning all. Head is a little sore, mostly from me poking at it, but the wound is closed and seems to be healing and my brain is functioning normally (for me), but will heed everyone’s warning and watch for any problems (I have to take a on-line concussion course every year to coach soccer, so I should know the symptoms). Another nice day is forecast in the mid-70’sF, have to make a decision on getting my hair cut, it’s been awhile since the last one, but I have so little left up there it’s paying them $13-$15 for maybe 5-6 minutes work. But it is getting below the collar so best get it done, I guess.
Cookie, been lucky with my cards, no problems with them, they both alert me when there is something unexpected, but so far it has been all my stuff. Tend to concur with you, sounds like there is somebody inside the loop feeding info.
Taters, helping out other states while you still have your own fairly major responsibilities sounds like…well, I won’t say it, but your big bosses need to grow a spine and make those other states do their job. IMHO.
FCM, that was my problem as a teacher; not all that good at discipline because (1) I wasn’t much of a problem in school and (2) college teaches many things, but proper discipline and managing a classroom wasn’t one of them–at least in the 1970’s…
God bod, enjoy dinner with your sister.
JtC, hope Hubs card shows up or that he gets it cancelled quickly.
Perhaps the greatest description of a cat that I have ever heard.
OK, need to forage a bit for early sustenance and get about the day. All y’all take care.
