When The Bride wakes from her coma, she looks at her hands, and exclaims “four years!” How could she tell that from her hands?
I understood it to mean that she looked at the lines in her hand.
Don’t know if that’s actually it or not but I believe they did a close up of her palm before she said that, as she was looking at it.
Well IRL she probably couldn’t, with any degree of accuracy. Maybe she is a wrinkle expert, in addition to her proficiency with swords.
I just chalk it up to artistic license.
Are you sure that this is the right forum to be asking that type of question?
You might prefer Cafe Society.
AIUI, ICBW Cafe Society is good for discussing the artistic merits of films, but to ask a specific question about a particular plot point, GQ is an appropriate forum.
No, it isn’t.
Unless, as in this question, the answer is a matter of opinion or interpretation.
Haj
its been a couple weeks since i’ve seen the movie and i’m not sure, but was she awake at that point and listening to the two guys talk about her. at one point, as the doctor and his friend/client are talking about having sex with her/payment/directions/rules, she’s out of the coma and lying there with her eyes closed to fake it. in that scene, does the doctor mention how long she’s been out or how long she’s been in the hospital while he mentions what happened to her and why she’s there? i remember the doctor talking about her spitting and I’m thinking he may have made mention to how long she’s been there. if not, I have no idea.
slight hijack-how does she continue to spit for 4 years while being in a coma? I understand its from where she spit at bill before he shot her, but how can her body and mind allow her to continue spitting for four years?
ata66, nope I rewatched it last night before posting and there is no one around yet when she whispers “four years” after looking at her hands. No calendars or anything like that either, as I was watching this scene again specifically to answer this thread.
WAG, it is a romanticised version of palmistry. the only time i saw it ‘for real’ was on a tv game show. there was a regular segment of the show where contestants had to guess the age of a stranger. in one episode one of them actually approach and examined the palm of said stranger and guessed her age correctly.
I guess it’s one of those fuzzy areas, whether it belongs in General Questions or in Cafe Society, but I’m going to make the somewhat arbitrary judgement call that it will get more attention in Cafe Society.
As to why The Bride would have knowledge of palmistry at all…
I assume the Assassination Squad (what was it again? It spelled out D.I.V.A.S, I think) was inspired by “Fox Force Five”, the show Mia Wallace (in Pulp Fiction) had done a pilot for. Mia’s character had been raised by circus perfomers (and her speciality was knife throwing)
