Kings 3/22

Queen Rose prepares for visitors from Gath.

Wait, I wasn’t paying enough attention at first…

Who is to be assassinated? The Gath leader or our young David?

Sounds like the later to me.

Well, eventually I realized that.

I’m TIVOing it and am darned confused.

My wife and I like this show so far, but I don’t care for the actor who is playing David. There’s something about his delivery that puts me off. I’m not huge on the whole “chosen one” aspect of the chow. I would rather it focus on the regular goingson of this alterworld.

I don’t know how well it’s doing in the ratings but I’ll bet we’ll never see resolution of anything before it’s cancelled.

Sucks because Silas is an awesome character. Basically Sweregen without the cussing.

I’m digging this show. Might be my new favorite this year. I expect there to be some divinity, it being a modern retelling of Samuel. It seems like part alternate history of America / part biblical tale set in a world that’s as in touch with God as he was made out to be in the Old Testament.

Treachery, intrigue, secrets, honor, good characters and nice production. It’s really different, and I wonder how far it can be taken. Let’s hope the ratings come together.

This episode was great.

Question:Vow… of Chastity? For the daughter, that is.

I have a feeling she’s been secretly betrothed to some foreign prince somewhere.

That’s my guess, too.

Though if we go with the source material (I’m not going to spoiler tag the Bible), David and Michal do marry.

Was there a previous episode? I thought this was the premier and I was completely lost without any backstory. Good actors, but I didn’t care for it.

Last week was a two-hour “movie” premiere. I’m relatively certain that it is available on NBC’s website. I can imagine how this episode would be quite confusing wihout last week for backstory.

It’s also available at Hulu.com and for free off the iTunes store.

Not quite as awesome as last week’s (the Queen persuading her brother to chill out by promising to bring back his son was a bit out of the blue), but the the stuff with Silas and Brian Cox was great. Who was in the picture? The princess, maybe? She doesn’t seem old enough to have been taken thirty years ago.

Oh, and I like how they’re not afraid to have such obvious comedy relief characters as the palace guardsmen – like Shakespeare.

I did not recognize Hannibal Lecter.

Thanks for pointing that out; I was a little annoyed until you mentioned the Bard.

All through that scene, I kept waffling back and forth on whether or not it was Brian Cox.

At Television Without Pity, they’ve been dubbed Rosencrantz and Guildenstern.

Was that the same actor who was the troupe leader in Deadwood? I thought he looked familiar. Now if we can only get a cameo from fucking Wu.

…who get whacked in Hamlet. Do these guys know something we don’t?

No, they’re Those Two Guys!
