Kirk Cameron caught in a gay bar??

If we’re going to take the story as hypothetically true, we have to take it as a whole, not just part of it. If we’re going to dismiss all of it, then there’s no point in speculating about innocent explanations either.

I’m accepting the story as a hypothetical, not as a reality, but the hypothetical includes a significant factor that can’t be left out and doesn’t fit with an innocent explanation of events.

Anything for attention—I guess he didn’t get enough from last week when he told the world that Mr. Rogers was a child molester.

How am I seeking attention by just pointing out a part of the story that people are ignoring?

I also didn’t accuse Mr. Rogers of being a molester. I said I personally got a molester “vibe” off him, and I wasn’t alone.

But that’s not how celebrity gossip works. All or part of it may be made up out of whole cloth.

I remember reading in Drew Carey’s Dirty Jokes and Beer a story that shows the gossip mongers don’t give a shit about accuracy. Carey was in New Orleans for Mardi Gras and was having a blast. A few weeks later one of the tabloids prints a story about him leaving this massive tip for a waitress and how he bought drinks for the whole bar the whole night. The only problem is that Carey was never in that bar. So part of the story was true (he was in New Orleans then and he was leaving normal-sized types at a different bar), but part of the story is still fake.

So I think believing all or nothing when it comes to gossip news is even stupider than reading gossip news in the first place.

Stephen Baldwin? You mean StevieB? And by the way, Kirk Cameron is totally gay.

I don’t believe or disbelieve any of it. I’m just taking it hypothetically at face value for the fun of it. We’re certainly in position to dismiss any of it.

I think it’s that thing he does with his voice. It’s too close to the way the stereotypical child molester tries to lure in children. (See the guy on Family Guy). Modern children’s programs don’t seem to do it as much.

Dude (or dudette) . . . I’m pretty sure half the world thinks that. I never heard a nice word about Fred Rogers until the man died.

Son, you just ain’t hanging with the right people.

Once, we had a dinner party with some Evangelicals. During our discussions about food, I mentioned that I had some Bratwurst boiled in beer. He yelled out: "Boiled in Beer? I pointed out that the alcohol content would be nil; but he was very upset. Turned out he was a heavy drinker before he “found the Lord”. I steered the conversation to more benign topics.

Not all 'gelicals are hard-core. Most I knew would pitch a can a beer to you out of the refrigerator on a hot day when you showed up at the door; but it was an unwritten agreement that you didn’t brag about it.

Is this sarcasm?

To be fair (and not knowing what was said), the “ex-alcoholic” part might’ve been more relevant to his being upset than the religion part.

Except Fox himself is extremely liberal.
And Dio, accusing Mister Rogers of being a pedophile, or at least saying he seems like one is sick.

No. The dude was a creepazoid. That’s the only thing I ever associated him with. I honestly did not realize that Mr. Rogers had admirers until his death, when he suddenly became this godlike cultural icon. Always always always gave me the heebie jeebies.

It’s not sick, it’s an honest visceral reaction. The guy skeeved me, and I say that as someone who actually wasa victim of a pedophile as a child. I think that people who were molested by pedophiles have a radar for them, and that unctuous, smarmy, ingratiating demeanor rings familiar bells for me. I’m not saying he definitely was a pedophile. My internal alarms could very well be false, but he did set them off.

C’mon, seriously? :dubious:
Let me tell you, around here in Pittsburgh, he was DEFINITELY a beloved figure. (They remember watching him on “The Children’s Corner”, where he got his start) He did a lot of good for the community, and for education and children’s television.

I don’t think I EVER heard a bad word about the man, and I would think if there was, it would be all over the place.

Mr. Rogers is second only to Michael Jackson for how many playground jokes he got destroyed by when I was in elementary and middle school. Everybody I know thinks he was a creeper. My parents didn’t like him, my grandparents didn’t like him, none of my friends liked him. Creep creep creep.

Fair enough; but in the South, booze is a tricky issue. If I know they’re Evangelicals and invited them to dinner, the rule was never to serve booze. Otherwise, it was awkward. The above example was to point out how upset they can get.

Wow, I just never got that vibe, I watched Fred’s show back in the 60’s. He was instantly appealing to me and the rest of my siblings. Even as I got older, he struck me as authentic. No malice, no snobbery, trying to build up a person, he was a very gentle soul…I can count the people on one hand in my life I’ve known who were like that–they can change your life just by knowing them. As I got older (you know nine, ten, eleven…) I mocked his show–but never ever mocked him. Nor would any of my pals. Do you remember when he talked to us after RFK was assassinated? How many people do you know like that Cisco?

I note back in April of 2010 Fox news decided Fred Rodgers was fair game.
It’s the main reason I never watch Fox News–when you become a person of the Lie, no good will ever come of it. Ever.

This thread is how rumors get started. It starts with a third hand reporting of an unnamed 1980s TV star at a gay bar that might or might not have happened. It ends up with half the world believing Kirk Cameron turned gay because when he was a kid Mr. Rogers molested him with a banana.

Like what? My parents were in 7th grade when RFK was assassinated.

Cisco, no offense, but you’ve got issues. You made it sound like Fred Rogers actually “did something” horrid. There’s NEVER been any rumors, other than stupid old urban legends. (Like he was a sniper/Navy SEAL in Vietnam).

That dog won’t hunt.
