Knights - I tuned in because of the “Let’s Rob Mick Jagger” angle to it - and Mick was pretty damn funny sending himself up in the little film clips - the hot butter dispenser in the shape of his lips/the Stones logo was priceless. Stayed for the indescribably hot Sophie Verguera(?) - and because the show was actually funny. When they went through the key bag, I was pleasantly surprised at how engaged I was - the ending was predictable/inevitable, Donal Logue does a great job making it seem fresh.
Emergency - I tuned in because, well, it was right after Knights, and it features the indescribably hot Kelly Hu (seriously, can two back-to-back shows feature more beautiful women??). Stayed after I saw that this ep was directed by Jon Favreau (writer/star of Swingers, director of Elf and Zathura). And Greg Germann, late of Ally McBeal, was hilarious as the self-help guy gone off the deep end. Jonathan Silverman did a fine job - and did I mention Kelly Hu?
I feel the same way. There weren’t out-and-out hilarious, but there were some nice funny bits and good characters.
Knights – the characters were good, if drawn a bit quickly (probably inevitable given the many threads of premise they had to go over in the premier). I loved “I already have the T-shirts made up” and the coffee shop scene and “I’ve lost my contact lens.” Small quibble about the keys (Mick is bound to have a penthouse – just grab keys from the top floors), but Jagger was obviously having a lot of fun in his bit. It’d be nice if he showed up again every few episodes, though it isn’t necessary.
Emergency – I was surprised about it. It hasn’t gotten the promotion of Knights, but was somewhat funnier. I’d tune in again to find out more about Kelly Hu’s backstory.
I killed it about 10-15 minutes in. I love Donal Logue but I just couldn’t take anymore of this. I’ll stick with “My Name is Earl” instead for my comic stupid crooks fix.
I tuned in because of Donal Logue. It was all right. My wife said, “Mick Jagger must have loved doing this.”
I said, “he probably had to tone it down.”
Anyway, not totally funny, but not bad. I like a show that starts our with 4 guys in blue collars cleaning a bathroom.
I.C.E.
Tuned in for a few minutes before switching to the sugar bowl. Seemed kind of funny. Again, I appreciate a show that starts with a guy getting a hand job in Korean massage parlor from the valedictorian of his high school class.
I at least like how these shows are further evidence that they’re not relying on laugh tracks or playing it safe any longer.
Let’s Rob Mick Jagger is so much the better title. Sigh.
As with the rest of you, I liked it without being overwhelmed. It has promise if they don’t overdo the schlub jokes (which teetered on the edge just in the pilot.) I like most of the cast and I liked that they gave an explanation for why a super-hot Hollywood starlet is working as a waitress. I don’t understand why they all showed their faces to the doorman in the very first episode. Isn’t that going to cause problems down the line? Or is that a plot point?
I didn’t watch the other show. A group of school friends who don’t turn out the way they thought later in life. Wasn’t that the plot of The Class? And that show became unwatchable in just a few episodes.
I feel the same way as it seems everyone else here feels. Good, but not great shows which seem watchable if just for the eye candy. You had me at Shalom, indeed.
I was set to switch off the TV after Knights, but the lack of laughtrack kept my attention.
Well, I’m not attracted to women, so the “hot chick” factor doesn’t work for me. I’m in with the “they’re OK enough so that if I have nothing else to do I’ll probably watch them, but I won’t go out of my way.”
In Case of Emergency did make me realize that I have no ICE person to write on medical forms or pick me up at the hospital or bail me out . . . My closest friends live all over the U.S., and the nearby friends are friends because we don’t impose on one another . . .
Me too. I caught the repeats tonight. Liked Knights a bit better than Emergency, which felt a bit heavy-handed in delivering the message.
Was the cop a classmate too?
I appreciate how ABC gives viewers a second chance to catch new shows. Maybe they’re doing it because they don’t have anything else to put in the schedule, but it worked for me. There’s nothing good on Friday nights anyway.
I recorded them, then watched ICE first. I enjoy the extreme absurdity of KoP, but identify with ICE much, much more.
Sadly, my clock was off a little, & I missed the end (last half-minute or so) of ICE. I was going to catch it tonight, but then ran off without setting the VCR. I know the cop showed up for Kelly, but then what?
I watched In Case of Emergency after seeing a blurb on it in the paper. I haven’t watched a prime time sit com in years, but having been a member of the class of '87 I couldn’t resist.
I loved the music and I’ll watch again to see if there is any good nostalgic bits.
