Know anything about a Sony KV32FS210 Television?

Unfortunately, after 30 years of life, our humble power-sucking Zenith console TV has given up the ghost.

So, in the process of searching for a new TV, I’ve mostly decided on a Sony KV32FS210 flat screen television. Do any of you Dopers with experience with electronics or those that have experience with this specific model have any advice or warnings?

I appreciate the help.

As a technician, I detest Sony televisions (and most of their other products, but that’s a topic for another thread). Sony trades on their (undeserved, IMHO) reputation to sell horrendously overpriced junk. Their products are not especially reliable, and they are difficult to get serviced.

I’m not familiar with the specific model you’re looking at–I haven’t spent much time in the family shop lately–but I strongly suspect you could get a better set for less money in another brand. I checked the specs on it, and I see that it uses a Trinitron, which I’ve never liked, and which Sony is phasing out.

Don’t buy the name. Look around at other brands carefully before you make a decision, including some that you might not generally think of–Samsung in particular has improved their television line greatly in recent years. They have a very nice 32" direct-view set, and their DLP sets are quite impressive.

I guarantee that whatever you get, it will look much better than an ancient Zenith.

I know you wanted advice specifically on that model, but here goes.

I think I own that model, but I’m not sure. :stuck_out_tongue:

I have a 32 inch Sony Wega and I remember it’s KV32FS something but all the ones I see look different from mine (mine looks exactly like the KV32FS100. I bought it two years ago, so maybe they changed the look since then.

Anyhoo, after I had it a few months, one of the tuners died. I could watch dvds, play games, but no cable tv. Sony sent over some fat Russian mafia type guys who hauled it away and returned it the following week, at the cost of $150. Since then it’s worked flawlessly!

Btw the TV it was replacing had a problem a few weeks after I bought it, so I may just be cursed.

I’ll check out the specs and get back to you.

Doesn’t look too bad to me.

2 Tuner PIP (handy to have 2 when one blows up) :stuck_out_tongue:
Digital comb filter
Component video

Good stuff for the price.

I’ve had one for two years or so. It’s worked flawlessly. I have no problems whatsoever. The only thing I can think of to complain about it is that it weights a ton.

Go Plasma…Of the liquid kind. My wife and I are going through the drama right now of buying a new TV. We are leaning at the Panasonic 42 inch Plasma…We figure for that money, and the written warrantee, we’ll have this for at least 15 years…pending a child doesn’t knock it off the wall first!

Thanks for all the replies.

Phlosphr, as much as I’d LOVE to buy a plasma tv, I just can’t afford to pay $5K right now. Maybe when the prices come down a bit…

I’ve got the HS model of this TV, the 32" Wega. I think the main differences is the HD modes. I absolutely love it, it’s got the best HD picture I’ve seen, especially compared to rear projection models. One problem with it, it’s heavy. Really heavy. 320 pounds. Eek.

Balance is right about Sony’s not being the most reliable set on the market. You should consider an extended warranty even though I detest them for the most part. I have had 2 of them over the course of 12 years and both had problems. Luckily, I had warranties so they were repaired and now work well, but they sure have the best looking picture of all that I looked at and that is why I bought them.

I’ve had one for over six months and i’m very happy with it. The only problem was carrying it up two flights of stairs; it took four grown men.
