Kristen Wiig in "Welcome to Me". Did anyone else find this interesting?

I was up all night last night with stomach troubles, and decided to watch this on Netflix. Wiig is always hit or miss with me: she can be brilliantly funny (or stupidly so), or she can miss the mark so hard I’m sure that’s what she was aiming for. The first few minutes of this movie had me thinking it was going to be of the latter sort, until I realized that she’s playing a character with borderline personality disorder.

In my inadequately educated opinion, I’m thinking that she did very well showing what it can be like to live with this disorder (about twenty years ago I briefly worked with a guy who had this diagnosis, and I could see a lot of his behaviors and struggles in Wiig’s performance). I can’t recall any other movie that I’ve seen that portrayed BPD at all (except maybe some over the top villains who might could be shoehorned into the diagnosis).

Anyone else see this? Did Wiig’s performance ring true?

I caught it on Netflix a few weeks ago and I liked it quite a bit. I admit to a low-grade crush on Kristen Wiig and besides I like weird movies anyway. So yeah … not just funny; she has some acting chops too.

Yeah, it was a charming movie.

And she goes full nude, which was a delightful surprise. Not that that’s the only reason to see it; it really is good! But yeah.

Well, I’m totally sold.

The scene doesn’t really work in a “Oooh! I get to see that actress naked!” kind of a way. Unless you’re so hard up for a bit of nudity as to undo any of the work the storytelling has done to elicit basic human empathy.

If you’re watching the movie to enjoy the movie itself, the nude scene is not going to do much for you.

If you’re watching just to see Kristen Wiig naked, you might as well just Google the stills.
I also liked this movie quite a bit, but I often get it mixed up with another movie starring Wiig from about the same time, Girl Most Likely, which is also pretty good.
