While Shayna & I were talking at Mercutio’s birthday party, our conversation moved to the opening of the new Harry Potter movie opening next weekend (the 16th), and we thought that this would be yet another fantastic excuse for us to get together. So… any of you crazy kids up for going to the movies and dinner after (or dinner first, movie after, however we decide to do it)?
We have several possibilites on when and where to meet, so I wouldn’t mind starting up a dialogue.
I brought up the idea of going to the new Paseo in Pasadena. They have a new Pacific Theatres, along with a good selection of restaurants (P.F. Changs, Border Grill [sub]that’s where I work[/sub], Tokyo Wako, and a few others). It’s also an open air shopping area, so you can walk around, and it’s two blocks from Old Town, so we can go pub crawling afterwards ;).
And… is the weekend of the 16th good? Or what about the next (which is Thanksgiving weekend, IIRC), or the next?
whoops, a little quick on the post button. How about the 17th? Dinner anywhere is fine (although I am partial to Buca de Beppo if we get a decent crowd), and I think Lucky Baldwin’s would be an ideal place to end up at later in the evening
Well, the sad thing is that I’m going to be working on shows (two of 'em!) until the end of the first week of December, so I’m out. I was never very fond of Harry Potter, anyway.
Man, with each Dopefest you guys are getting closer and closer to my house. Any chance you may end up in Ontario/Upland/La Verne area one day? No? Eh, I didn’t think so, not much to do here…
The only thing about the 17th is that it is opening weekend, and we may have to buy tickets way in advance for the show. I’m also working that day until 4 PM, so I’m not sure when the rush hour showing will be (not like that would cause much problem, since it’s in the same complex).
Reason why I brought up Border Grill as a place to go for after dinner is that it’s in the same complex, and since I work there, there wouldn’t be much trouble getting a table and probably snag some free appetizers out of it (but don’t mark my words on that!).
I’m all in for the Border Grill. True enough about tickets, so we may have to plan. The only other option would be the weekend after thanksgiving. I was thinking the problem ewith rush hour movie is that it would put us at about 7-8 for trying to get in somewhere for dinner, which ain’t easy. But if we have a mole at the Border Grill then that might work out.
bristlesage, welcome aboard. And consider this your formal invitation to join us - we love meeting new people!
As for the time issue, at dinner the other night I suggested a matinee because that would be even cheaper, and an early dinner (which would mean beating the 7-8:00 dinner rush), but it was thought that a matinee would have more kids in the audience, and therefore not be as optimal for our enjoyment. I think there’ll be a lot of kids no matter what time, so I’ll go to any showing you guys all agree on.
