L.A. Dopers: Dinner and a Movie?

Well, I haven’t heard anything in the thread in regards to going/not going to Border Grill (except from CelticCowboy, but in talking with a few of you, it seems that going there may be cost-prohibitive to some of you. I don’t blame you, it looks like they will give us the limited menu even if I have less than 12 (I talked to one of the managers to make the reservation, and he wasn’t too thrilled about having a party that large right in the middle of dinner rush), and I completely understand not exactly having about $35 to spend for dinner.

So, can I get some of you to chime in for other ideas for dinner, or shall I go ahead and make a reservation at the tapas place? Or P.F. Chang’s?

Have fun guys! I may end up at Lucky Baldwin’s later in the evening, so maybe I will see you guys there.

Oooo! Oooo! I’d like to place my vote for PF Changs! I don’t think they take reservations, though.

(And I’m kindof glad others thought the pre-set menu was a bit expensive, because I was reluctant to be the lone dissenter).

I’ll find out tonight if PF Chang’s will do a reservation for us, since we’re a relatively large group.

Seeing as how I am thoroughly unfamiliar with the area we’re talking about, I’m gonna leave this one up to you all.
As long as it’s edible, I’ll be happy. I’m easy that way. [sub]that really came out sounding wrong, didn’t it?[/sub]

PF Changs! Good food, fancy digs, low price.

Ok, time to bring this up again, so hopefully you haven’t forgot about this.

I’d like to finalize the plans, give addresses and times and such.
For going to see Harry Potter, there is a showing at 4:30 PM, which is right in the time we were shooting for.

The theater is in the The New Pasadena Paseo Complex:
Pacific Paseo Stadium 14
280 E. Colorado Blvd.
Pasadena, CA 91101

Let’s meet in front of the theater by 4:10 PM (I need just enough time to run from upstairs to get there :))

Now, about dinner. I went to P.F. Chang’s, and Shayna was right–they won’t take reservations. I’ve called a few of the restaurants I know of in Old Town just down the street, and made a few reservations (or we can always take our chances with P.F. Chang’s, but it’s possible we could be waiting for over an hour or more for a table).

These are the places that did take reservations for 8 PM (I made the reservation for 8, considering that the movie is 2 1/2 hours long, and would give us plenty of time to gather):

La Luna Negra (this is the tapas place I had mentioned) They serve Spanish tapas (appetizers), along with items like sandwiches and other entrees, and most of their prices run in the $8 to $12 range.

Clearwater Restaurant It’s a seafood restaurant, and is also relatively reasonable.

Buca de Beppo–I could only get a reservation for 9 PM. There was a dopefest there in February(?), so they might remember us. They have Italian, and serve it family style.

There are other restaurants such as Cheesecake Factory, Louise’s, and Gaucho Grill, but they won’t take reservations–so’s we’s takes our chances there. So, let me know what you think.

Hey all,

Mind if I join in?

And by the by, don’t forget California Pizza Kitchen and McCormick’s Seafood at the Doubletree Hotel just north of there. Just some more possibilities.

Icarus, you know you’re welcome to join!

See y’all there!

:shameless bump:

Another go around for those who may have missed this the first time around.

(with pricciar possibly meeting us later for dinner)

I’ve made reservations for a party of 12, so if you’d like to join us for dinner, please let me know so I can make the necessary arrangements.
Re: Parking. If you’re going to the movie, there is underground parking at The Paseo, and there is also a large parking structure across the street on the corner of Arroyo Pkwy & Green Street (please note that Green St is a one way street). If you’re just coming in for dinner, there is a parking structure on Delacey, between Colorado & Green, which is just about 100 yards from La Luna Negra, and it puts you right smack in the middle of Old Town.

I haven’t heard any replies about dinner, so I’m going to go ahead and have it at La Luna Negra, at 44 W. Green Street. It’s a 3 block walk from The Paseo, and honestly, the only restaurant that didn’t balk when I made a large party reservation right in the middle of the Saturday Night Dinner Rush  (always a plus in my book). I’d rather go to a place that will take a reservation, than trying to take our chances somewhere else (especially in Pasadena).

Hey I can come. I will be there.

I wanna go! I was planning to see Potter this week anyway. I don’t want to spend more than $20 for dinner, okay?

jab1 that shouldn’t be a problem at La Luna. I’ve walked away there very full for less than $20 (well, not counting the alcohol tab  )

Sadly, I will not be able to attend. I have been roped into working.

What time is the reservation? I have also been roped into working, but I’m off at 8.

The reservation is at 8, but I’m sure we’ll be there for a while. I’ll email you our cell phone number, so you can give us a call if you need to.

I hope the weather holds. Right now, the forecast looks good, but, this time of the year, ya never know.

I notice that the theater is also showing Monsters Inc., so I just may see that one, too, before seeing Potter.

Are we all going to sit together?

Crappity-crap crap. Remove me from the ‘definite’ list, and put me on the ‘maybe’ list. Turns out I’ve got some work to do this weekend, and I’m really not sure how long it’s going to take.

Hopefully, you’ll see me there, but don’t be surprised if you don’t. :frowning:
