LA / So. Cal Dopefest - Saturday, 11/15 @ Roscoe's Hollywood

Hey, it’s not like Shayna hasn’t been to a 'fest before – I’ve met her, she’s real!

I was waiting on a final vote before determining the Roscoe’s location, and I think enough people have given favor to Roscoe’s that we probably shouldn’t deviate from that plan at this point.

Just in case anyone’s wondering, Roscoe’s locations are in Long Beach, Pasadena, Hollywood and West LA(ish). The Hollywood location is the original, and has recently expanded to have a lot more tables. It has the advantage of being near the Arclight or other Hollywood fixtures for those who might be looking for post-waffle entertainment. Pasadena is closest to the San Gabriel troops, of course, and in my opinion, is every bit as good as the original. I have been to the West LA location once and was less than impressed. I’ve never been to the Long Beach location, so I have no opinion there.

By the way, Antinor01, are you conceding the vote to Roscoe’s at this point, or are you planning to launch a smear campaign in order to get sushi back in the race?

Roscoe’s voted for tax increases a record 182 times in the last 6 months. Roscoe’s doesn’t care about the little guy. Sushi is on record as saying that the government needs to reduce spending and maintain a balanced budget. Sushi will be there for you.

Remember Sushi 08

My name is Antinor01 and I approved this message.

(Fine fine, we’ll have the blasted Roscoe’s.)

Despite you being a sushicrat I will still give you a ride to Roscoe’s (assuming you ask nice)
Otherwise I will have the lovely Silver Tyger Girl all to myself.

Ehh, it’ll be after the election. We must reach across the aisle in bipartisan support. Wafflicans and Sushicrats must work together to restore peace!

I just checked it out too, and i’m sort of glad i can’t make this one. It doesn’t exactly have a wide selection for vegetarians.

Works for me.

I like the idea of the live jazz at Long Beach. Otherwise I’d dig Hollywood, because I love Hollywood.

Woah! I keep forgetting you’re in San Diego now. That’s so cool. We should all get together at Rancho’s or, well, any of the other vegan and vegan-option places around. I guess there must be some in L.A. too for next time.

Visit LA, the City of Death by Driveby? Are you insane?!?!??

Relax, that’s only on Tuesdays. Dopefests are always on a weekend.

ok, weighing in now:
I like sushi, but have it a lot, I love chicken and waffles but have never been to Roscoe’s. So with that information I would lean towards Roscoe’s. However I’ve always thought of Roscoe’s as an after-drinking meal. Kinda like The Apple Pan.

Also, I have plans that evening and couldn’t make it until around 8:30ish (later if it’s Long Beach)

Roscoe’s for me

Well, since the last bastion of partisan dining has fallen by the wayside, Roscoe’s it is!

Now, the new vote is for location. I’ll start us up again.

By the way, mhendo, I’ve definitely dined at Roscoe’s with vegetarian friends. They ate the waffles and were HUGE fans of the red beans and rice. But I can’t personally speak to what’s appropriate for vegetarians or not.

*I think Hollywood is the best central location for the majority of folks making the journey (with all due respect to our San Diegans – hey, what’s another couple of miles up the road, eh?), but I also note that street parking around Roscoe’s on a Saturday night might be…challenging. If we set the time for 6pm or so, it could be more reasonable.

Hollywood or Pasadena for me.

Ok, Roscoe’s sounds good to me. I would like either the location of Pasadena (because it’s the shortest drive from Victor Valley) or Long Beach (for the jazz lounge/bar.)

Hollywood or Pasadena are fine with me. I have a slight preference for Hollywood, but not much of one.

Too bad I have to coach baseball that day, I would love to spend the day at the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena…it is open from 12-6pm and only $8 to get in.

It’s a great museum too. If you are into Degas, it has an amazing collection of his works.

Since I still don’t know if I can make it that day (and it’s looking like I won’t know for a while yet…), and also since I don’t know my way around LA at all, I hereby recuse myself from adding any input as to the location.

(and by the way, Sushi is soft on crime!)

I of course would vote for Long Beach.

Still need to discuss this with the husband to see if we are truly in or not.

Pasadena is my #1 vote, followed by Hollywood.

Jeez, looks like we’ll need a points system.
