In defense of “DrDeth’s silly OP” we are talking about a website where people voluntarily post their picture so people can judge their physical attractiveness. So opinions on how to post a better looking picture are appropriate. It’s not like he was telling people to spice up their pictures on the Straight Dope photo gallery.
And bittersweet and Engine are both fine looking women.
I’d wager at least 50% of the photos on HoN are not posted by the people in the picture. Post a good picture of your boy or girlfriend, find out how they rate, feel better about yourself, etc. Post a bad picture of your xB or xGF, find out how they rate, feel better about yourself, etc.
Some people will also post different personal pictures under different accounts… and the same picture under different accounts… presumably to get an average vote, larger sample, some weird intuitive statistics thing.
So I understand why there are some really just plain bad pictures on Hot or Not… fuzzy, too dark, of ugly people, etc… they’re the only pictures of someone else that the poster has… or they’re posting their bad pictures, too, to get a realistic response.
The only thing that really annoys me is when people have this itty bitty picture… and an 8x10 area of white space. Most photoeditors have a crop function. Use it.
Or, fill up that huge white space with other pictures of yourself.

I’m feelin’ rather contrary today… I’m annoyed but not sure why, and I’m a wee bit sentimental and missin’ my hunnybunny. And I’m pissed at the bank, super-A bomb pissed… “I’m in the red!” and no one understands me until I explain myself in overly verbose and lengthy ways, and I’m tired of talking. :sigh:

Just for the record, size is unimportant. Application is what maters. How are they used, not how big are they.
I think those types of sites are really sad. If you’re really good looking, you just want to hear people say it all day long. If you’re ugly, you just want to hear people say you’re good looking all day long.
That’s what really matters, hot, or not. More shallow than the Marlboro man’s last breath.
Hot or Not is… interesting. I recall it in its early days, when it was very hard for anyone to get a rating over 5 or 6, even extremely attractive model-types. Since the site has gained in popularity they seem to have tweaked the rating/averaging system so that it’s much easier to get a score over 7.
Presumedly this would be in order to stroke egos a bit in an attempt to make more people stick around on the site, making it more popular, but for me at least it has the brow-raising effect of causing some people I find to be (cough) not really all that attractive* to be ranked higher than myself.
