Here’s why I’m asking. I’ve heard several women say that they don’t like athletic-looking guys. At the same time though, I hear a lot of women swoon over guys who look like they’re scuplted into the images of Greek gods. And of course, there are the occasional women who say that they like the slightly overweight, teddy bear look.
So ladies, what type of build do you prefer on a guy?
Lean and skinny?
Slightly pudgy?
Slightly muscular?
Muscled like an Olympic gymnast?
Beer belly?
Others?
Heh, I’m totally NOT the person to answer this, because I’ve liked guys with all sorts of builds. I don’t think the build thing is even on my top ten list of the first things I find attractive about a guy.
The one I love is exactly my height, strong without really looking muscular, and sporting a bit of a belly due to my fabulous cooking, but I also like:
Big beefy bubbas with a beer belly
Great big tall muscular guys that I can wrap myself in
Shorter-than-me bulldog types
Lean as a whip slim boys
I’ll certainly ogle the olympic power lifter types
Average, everyday Joes
I’m glad you asked. I like skinny little guys if they are athletic and energetic, and I like big fat guys if they have charisma, and I like everyone else if they have a very good personality. I don’t like gym bodies.
I tend to like the rower body type, lean and muscular but not muscle bound. I also have a perverse fondness for those really, skinny rocker guys who have no ass. Not awfully fond of pudge, maybe a slight pudge around the middle is OK if they’re otherwise pretty fit. I work pretty hard to stay in shape and would like the guy to do the sanme…
I prefer lean guys; although I am completely unathletic, I am apparently attracted to runners as many of my boyfriends were track/cross country runners, as was mr.stretch. :cue Glory Days by the Boss:
Looking at **tremorviolet’**s link, I’d say I like the rower build as well. Mmmmm, nice legs like a runner has, plus great arms/upper body. Too bad we didn’t have rowers in the logging town I went to high school in.
I don’t like body-builder bodies at all.
That said, I dated guys with all different body types back in the day…I’m more interested in a guy with a personality that clicks with mine.
Swimmers - tall, big shoulders, nice ass, strong without being musclebound.
Though higher on my list are hands - strong, long fingered, blunt tipped. I drool over guys hands. Especially if they have some skill with them, piano, guitar, martial arts…
Tall, preferably 6’ or more.
Slightly overweight to moderately overweight works well for me. I like my man big, so there is lots to cuddle.
I can’t stand the chiseled look or really skinny, especially if his legs are thinner than mine.
But ya know what is more important than all of this?
Senstivity, a man that is not afraid to cry and show emotion, a man with depth to his character.
With the gut and all? I think I’ve found my new idol to emulate (since I’ll never be as tall and thin as John Cusack, as suave as Cary Grant, or have has crisp a voice as Gregory Peck.)
Mitchum…I could definitely do that. “Build my gallows high, baby.”
Any type of build (except grossly overweight or anorexic) as long as he’s got the personality I like. I’ve gone through phases…my early crushes were all nerd-skinny, lately they’ve become moderately built/at least some gym activity. My new potential guy has bulging muscles and ripped abs and looks like some sort of Indian muscle magazine sex fantasy but has the personality of my skinny-nerd-crushes.
My fantasy look is the soccer/tennis boy look. Lean muscle.
What I’ve always been attracted to: tall, whipcord thin guys with little body hair.
What I married:
Barrel chested knuckle dragging hirsute guy who is is built like a brick shithouse in the old fashion don’t fcuk with me kinda of way and yet, he is a teddybear. Leaving me to be the Bad Cop.
As far as body type? I like really skinny/lanky guys. Due to various circumstances, I am not really comfortable being very close to big guys – whether it’s pudge or muscle, it’s the amount of bodyweight/size they have over me that matters (I’m short and small). And yeah, I’ve given the taller/heavier fellows a chance, but in the end I just can’t deal with it. I don’t expect that’s normal though.
Average body (not too much pudge around the middle) is also OK, if they have a really interesting face. The order of attraction for me goes face --> personality --> body, so if someone doesn’t have an interesting look to them (and I don’t mean in the green hair and facial peircings way), and a decent personality, the body isn’t going to matter at all.
I like most male body types except very skinny and very muscular. Those types just look weird to me. Very extreme examples of those types, say, the lead singer of the Black Crowes, or men in a bodybuilding competition, can actually make me feel a bit sick to the stomach. Generally, I find personality, intelligence, sense of humor, etc. more important. And as far as physical attributes go, I’d much rather have an attractive face on a less than ideal body than the other way around. I do like men to be taller than I am, but I’m only 5’3", so there are very few men who aren’t taller than me.
If you lined up my 2 most serious past boyfriends and my husband, you’d see my preference - 5’8" - 5’10" with some meat on the bones and facial hair. I dated a few really tall guys, but I didn’t like having to look up at them - walking and chatting was hard on the neck! I don’t find body-builder types appealing at all. I’ll admire a nice athletic build on a man, but my ideal is cuddly, like my sweetie!
