Polo (green, black, blue, sport) is what my father and all his friends aged 50-70 wear. It is THE scent for the older country club crowd who wore it in the 80’s and will wear it to their grave. Old Spice is what my 16 year old brother wears.
You want Dolce & Gabbana light blue or Calvin Klein 1 or CK Eternity or Lacoste.
And you wanna buy it at an outlet store or on Ebay so you save 25-50%.
Unfortunately, all fragrance makes me ill (see purplehorseshoe’s thread), but I do love the smell of bay rum. The cheap ones aren’t any good; you have to get a quality one. Wish my husband could wear it without me getting a migraine, because mmmmmmmm.
I’m also surprised at the Polo fans, wonder if that is something generational.
I do like D & G Light Blue, but it is a lighter scent than the other two (original and the brown one).
I know they’re not originals, but I like the scent of Christian Audigier’s Ed Hardy collection. I specifically like the Born Wild one, but at the outlet I could only find the original. I also liked this one, and gave it to my SO. It was approved (by him, his mom, his coworkers and friends).
Tim McGraw. Wife loves it…it’s reminiscent of something else I used to get, which was Outback from Avon. It was cheap, but it was “light” and smelled great.
Might have to check out Gray Flannel though, on the ladies’ recommendation in this thread.
Hah! I make joke! I’m not big on people reeking in public, either - a VERY light spritz should be plenty. I can’t tell you which ones I like - my husband doesn’t wear any, and I haven’t smelled men’s colognes in a while. The Royall Lime one sounds good - I like citrus scents.
I too am a Polo hater and it’s cracking me up that some of us are sharing the same bad memories from school. I’ll only add that I had the displeasure of smelling it blended with the smell of chew, as it was the scent of choice for the football team who constantly carried their spit cups around.
My SO uses Arber Aftershave Balm (and occasionally, the Arber Eau De Toilette) from The Body Shop, and it is divine. He doesn’t use a lot, and the smell isn’t overpowering.
This. There is also a Bulgari scent that I really liked on my husband, but I can’t remember what is is. I think a lot of it also depends on each person’s chemical reaction to the product.
I used to know someone who wore Eau Sauvage, and I loved it. That was a long time ago. What does the date matter? If something smells good it should always smell good!
Find message boards for gym rats. Ask them which cologne they hate the most. Buy that.
One of our clients is a local gym and the management look like they just walked out of Jersey Shore. Whenever they come for meetings the smell almost chokes me.
