I think we may actually have enough dopers working in the Las Colinas area (Dallas-Ft. Worth, in case there’s another one out there), that we might actually have critical mass to have a weekly lunch get-together.
There’s a load of restaurants at the MacArthur/114 intersection and the MacArthur/635 intersection. What I’m hoping for eventually is someplace quiet, reasonably inexpensive and with enough variety to appeal to different tastes and is not so busy that we are faced with beating a lunchtime crowd every week.
OK, now that I’ve eliminate all the restaurants, what do we do?
Just for starters, may I suggest 11:30 this coming Thursday (7/10) at one of the following:
Golden Chopsticks (around the corner from the Krogers on MacArthur; good, fast, inexpensive chinese)
Texadelphia (In front of Krogers)
Red, Hot and Blue (114 & MacArthur)
IHOP, maybe? (well, it’s cheap)
El Fenix (where 114 and 121 share a stretch of road - may be a little too far for some, but has good cheap mexican food and I’ve never seen it busy)
Pipe up folks! Tell me what you like/don’t like!
(Jim, I know you don’t like rice. I’m sure you could find something to eat!)
I’m in! Any place is fine - definitely make it 11:30, all the restaurants fill very quickly in this area. Isn’t there a Cheddar’s at MacArther & 635?
I work on MacArthur in Valley Ranch, there’s also some good (less crowded) places up this way.
South of 635, on Macarthur - go to Yahoo Maps and enter your starting destination and the address above.
I have a very silly question - having never met a group of total strangers for lunch, how will I know y’all? Somehow, I think waltzing up to the hostess stand and asking for the “Doper group” will raise eyebrows. Is there a secret hand signal, do we wear the same color shirts?

Well, after all that, I’m not going to be able to make it this week. Chef Jr.'s camp is having a special presentation at 3:00 Friday afternoon, which means I have to leave work at 2:00 – which means no lunch break for Cheffie. I’m sure I’ll be able to make it next week, though. How about Razzoo’s on the westbound service road of 635, just west of MacArthur?
Also, I have to warn you folks, if you show up at Texadelphia at 12:30 you’re going to have to wait in a LONG line to order and there may not be any tables (unless they’ll reserve a table for a large group - I don’t know because I normally eat alone). When I go there, I try to get there no later than 11:30 or else I wait until after 1:00.
Blonde - here’s something that may help you recognize the group. this link goes to a forum on Arborwood where we often plan things like this, and there’s a picture of the gang taken at one of our best-attended get-togethers. That’s Zyada in the black blouse, second from the left and a bit back from in front, holding what i believe is her fourth drink of the night. The woman in the salmon colored top to Zyada’s left is Grace, and that’s Lord Jim in the navy track suit down in front. (I’m the big guy with the goatee way in the back, but it looks like I won’t be there so that won’t help you.)
