Ok. I did it. I finally said to myself “Self, let’s try and get a LV Dopefest going” So here is my feeble attempt to do so :slight_smile:

Anyway, I thought it would be fun to get together with fellow Dopers in Vegas. I don’t think it need to be a series of planned events with a serious itinerary, but people would get together in the evenings for dinner, drinks, etc… As DMark mentioned in my other crappy thread that people could do the “tourist thing” during the day. Depending on how to arrange transportation, maybe a group tour of Hoover Dam or something

As for the when part, I am open for suggestions. I live here so for me, not a big deal as for when. A weekend would obviously be best. July is a pretty slow tourist month, mainly because of the heat, but we do have air-conditioning :smiley:

So post your ideas and hopefully we can have Las Vegas Dopefest 2004

I read that other thread, and I was hoping somebody was going to do this. Unfortunately, July is booked for me. I could maybe do the last weekend in June, though, but I don’t know if that’s a big weekend for whatever reason.

On LVgeogeek’s way excellent other thread, I mentioned July and August only because normally those are traditionally slow months here in Las Vegas, meaning big-time savings on airfare and hotels for out-of-town visitors. High-end casinos that normally charge $350 a night might be as low as $89 a night – again, depending on no conventions and no holiday weekend. Other somewhat smaller hotels will have even cheaper deals.

I know Las Vegas in July/August can be a tad warm, but there is a great water park (Wet ‘n Wild) on The Strip between the Riviera and Sahara hotels, almost every hotel has multiple swimming pools and as mentioned, air-conditioning here has really caught on. Plus the nights are pleasant to roam The Strip and catch the mist from the fountains at Bellagio.

For us locals, it doesn’t make any difference when…July, October, whenever. So I guess it is a matter of consensus.

  1. See how many Dopers are interested in a Las Vegas Dopefest;
  2. See when most would like to come;
  3. Go from there.
