Las Vegas DopeFest: August 2007?

Hey all, just came across this thread again. I will be there with bells on, I live here. Friday is best for me but I can hang out after work on Saturday and Sunday.

Slee

Slee, send me an email if you have time to stop by next Saturday for a pre-DopeFest gathering of locals to make some plans!

Update: The flights I’m looking at on Southwest are 7 hours each way. On the outbound leg, though, I would have one hour between flights at Midway. Is this a major issue at Midway?

no, you will be fine

So it’s likely to be Aug 10-12, right?

How do I contact you lot once I arrive? (sometime on Aug 1)

Here is a Youtube of me for recognition purposes (I’m the FIDE Master with glasses, grey beard + moustache!):

I live here in Vegas and almost exclusively fly Southwest (mostly because they are cheapest) I rarely have problems with delays with them at any airport. I have flown in/out of Midway before, and there were no problems. However, Phoenix is a three ring circus regardless of who you are flying on (or it has every time I have gone through there).

I enjoy flying with Southwest because every time we land here in Vegas, when they give their little welcome to whatever town you’re landing in speech, they always say “and for those of you who live here in Las Vegas, welcome home” It’s a nice touch that they remember that people live here too.

I will second eating before or buying snacks in the terminal- the little sack of peanuts suck. The last time I flew, though, I got a decent size packet of tasty crackers plus the peanuts! :stuck_out_tongue: Also if you want a second soda (or other free beverage), all you have to do is ask.

I hope that includes layovers

I am sure that a list of contact numbers can be made available.

:dubious:

I’ve received a contact number from DMark.

I agree with glee, is there final confirmation on Aug 10 - 12? Once there is, I’ll book my flights.

I’ll likely have to find someone to cover my shifts at work but if the stars align, which I’m hoping they will, I’m excited about going! Do you have an e-mail list to dole out the details? My e-mail is in my profile.

Yes, August 10-12th are the dates.

Regarding specifics - some of us local LVDopers are getting together this Saturday to make some tentative plans.
(If you are a local LVDoper and want to join us for this planning meeting, email me ASAP!)

Out-of-town visitors - email me if you want, but we’ll get back to this thread after the coming weekend with more details.

I know where I’m staying and I know how to contact you - but the big question remains unanswered:

  • what sauce or relish do you recommend for the barbecue?!

P.S. Do you want me to bring any English foodstuffs, such as Marmite? (or will I get into trouble at US customs  )

Mmmmmmm…jammie dodgers!! I love jammie dodgers

Quick update.
I saw this on another board and thought I would pass along the info!

"If you want to see one of the Cirque du Soleil productions, you can get very cheap tickets through a limited time promotion offered by Ticketmaster.
Seats are $50 per ticket, plus the usual $7.50 handling fee, for shows between today and end of September. Currently, the shows with $50 seats include KA, Mystere, Zumanity, and LOVE, but excludes “O”

Significant savings, but you won’t get the center section, lower level, for any of the shows, but still decent seats."

The link is: Cirque Du Soleil tickets. Official Ticketmaster Site.

For those of you coming to Las Vegas, this is actually quite a deal - you don’t often get discounts on any of these shows, so if you are interested in seeing teeny French Canadians fly through the air, go on line and grab these tickets quickly!

LOVE (in Mirage) has received rave reviews, Zumanity (in NYNY) is the “naughty version”, KA (in MGM Grand) supposedly has a real plot (!!!) and Mystere (at Treasure Island) is the grand-daddy of them all, but some say the best.

07/07/07 Update

On this “lucky” day, some of us Las Vegas Dopers got together and met to discuss the plans - and we came up with some cool ideas.

We have some research to do, and phone calls to make, but the goal is to start a new, final thread regarding the LasVegasDopefest07 by Monday, July 16th with the specific times, locations and plans.

Check back on 7/16/07 - and hope even more of you can find the time to join us here in Las Vegas on the weekend of August 10, 11 and 12!

I think the TSA considers Marmite a Weapon of Mass Destruction, and won’t be happy to find it in your luggage.
