Is anyone familiar with, or has had a hemmorroid treated with, laser treatment? I have an annoying hemmorrhoid (like there’s another type) and was considering the laser treatment. My family doctor recommends against it because he’s heard it’s a painful process, but online discussions never mention that as a problem. However, most information I’ve found online is from the providers, and is unsurprisingly positive.
So, I am looking for advice from the horse’s mouth, so to speak.

Lasers are very useful tools for certain medical disorders. There’s no finer way to treat many retinal problems, for instance. Much better than going after the retina with a scalpel!
It is also helpful in a wide range of dermatologic problems.
But with hemorrhoids, laser treatment doesn’t seem to reduce pain, complications, or healing time, over standard scalpel treatment.
It is generally more expensive than traditional hemorrhoid surgery, since medical lasers aren’t cheap.
Since lasers don’t seem to offer any tangible benefit over standard treatment, only more cost, there’s no real push in the medical community or by patient advocacy groups to use lasers for hemorrhoid treatment.

I may be venturing into TMI territory, but for my own edification, I need to know – are these “internal” or “external”? My interest goes back to Army Basic Training and an Army surgeon saying the word "prolapsed’ to me. Most miserable goddamn week I’ve ever spent in my life!
