Last Comic Standing 7-22

Well, I guess I’ll have to start this thread yet again.

I can’t believe Dat Phan blew me away with his second set. It was WAY funnier than his first set. I’m so glad that he came out on top.

Oh, and how the heck do they figure out who goes first? I mean, the first comic doesn’t really stand a good chance of winning, since they are warming up the second comic.

Only time the first comic won was when Ralphie May beat Rob Cantrell. All the rest was the second comic. Although the second comics were funnier, they kinda got a warmed up crowd.

the twist was okay, but i still want Tess and Rich Vos booted asap.

Huh. I just came from a LCS message board where I got the impression that I am the only person who thinks Dat Phan is funny. I was laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes tonight. With Geoff, not so much.

I don’t know how funny a Dat Phan TV show would be though. Kind of like All American Girl with Margaret Cho, probably. Very one-dimensional, and all the jokes would be used up in the first episode.

Did anyone see the recent rerun of Premium Blend where Tess was the middle act and Rich Vos was the final act? It was aired several years ago. I think Rich is going to win.

Dat was a lot funnier than last week. I think he used more jokes, instead of just mocking his mother. I was surprised.

Yeah, after last week I thought Dat was going to suck tonight. He was not funny in the slightest last week. But tonight he had me laughing and he deserved to beat Jeff.

I’m guessing that the person challenged by the person voted off gets to choose whether they want to go first or second. And Ralphie was the only one who chose to go first because he really doesn’t care all that much and just wanted to get up and do his thing. I also imagine that they have some warm-up acts before the competition.

There is a lot of anti-Dat stuff out there. It’s pretty funny that he keeps winning though. Here Ralphie sticking up for Dat. There’s a message from him in July 20. I guess the hate comes from his defeat of Dave. Dave was very funny, he just couldn’t control the who the audience was.

As for Geoff, he had some long jokes. Where you just sit and wait and begin to think to yourself “Is he getting near the punchline yet?” I’m not surprised he lost.

And as funny as I think Dave is, he’s still a jerk. His trashing of Dat for his little speach was pretty tasteless. But all his mind games just fail when it comes to Dat. I loved Dave’s face as he clapped at Dat’s victory. Comedy is weird though, just like art and cooking and other creative stuff. You have to do it the way youthink is good and just hope the recipients agree with you. I’ve seen Mitch Hedberg perform his incredilby funny humor but just get a bum audience and so he bombs. Victory doesn’t go to the funniest but to the one the audience prefers and people are weird.

Dat was definitely better than Geoff last night – it was the first time I agreed with the audience as to who was better. His physicality really enhances what he does. Geoff – enh. As Fern Forest[sub]Hey cutie – I just realized a few days ago you’d changed your screen name – long time no see. How goes it? How’s your grandma? /greeting to fellow “a” thread alum[/sub] pointed out – long, long setups, and not much of a payoff when you got there.

I thought everyone’s comments about being rusty at this point from not performing for so long were interesting – is Dat Phan going to kick butt next week in the finale?

Anyone else notice that the winner has been getting 75% or more? Why such big margins, do you think?

I can’t recall anyone but Dat practicing to stay in form. It seems that he knew he’d been around the least and was all set to put extra work into it. Even so you could still see him mess up a few of his lines. Although I don’t think that Rich or Dave or Ralphie can gain all that much by practicing. I think we’ll see either Tess and Cory or Dat and Cory leave in the next show.

Hey twicks. Cutie? :o I figured I probably shouldn’t have my givenname as my username. Plus Fern Forest has a nice leafy feel to it. Grandma’s doing fine. I wonder if the “a” thread would still be going if it wasn’t closed? We’d be at about 15,000 posts by now and I’d be closing in on 5000. Ahh, good times.

I think the one who gets the most challenges from the other comics gets to go second, at least that’s the way it has been up to now.

Dat was definitely funnier last night. You’ve got to give him credit for heart and he’s the only one in the house who doesn’t seem like a totally bitter, cynical bastard.

The talking to himself in his mom’s voice is a little bit weird, though…

I love and hate Dat. I love him because he is so committed and focused and good natutred and I like to see people like that win in life. Come to think of it, I don’t really hate Dat as much as I do the voting audience for thinking that he’s funny. twickster, said that “his physicality really enhances what he does” and I agree. The only thing he does though is make fun of the way asian people talk - he doesn’t have any funny ideas (there was one or two in last nights show, Im speaking about last week’s). He should be ashamed as a comedian and an asian that the only way he can get people to laugh is to make fun of an accent. At least when Margaret Cho makes fun of her accent she is saying something hilarious at the same time.

Did you guys notice that at the beginning of last night’s show that they did a whole tribute to Dave? They didn’t do that for the other comics when they got kicked off. I loved Dave and was so happy to see him back last night.

I think Tess is going to win. Ralphie is pretty funny too. I don’t remember Rich’s stand up from the qualifying shows, but he is the funniest when the comics are just talking to the camera.

Something tells me that even tho Dave is out of the house, we may well see more of him on TV when the dust from this settles.

I hope you’re right FCM.

I missed the show last night. Who was eliminated?
I don’t like Dat Phan I think he stinks!

I used to think Dat was a pretty weak comic, but he certainly has gained my respect. I loved the whole bit about being a urinating martial artist. When he said “Finish him!” my brother and I both cracked up. I don’t think that he’ll win, but I think he can be a pretty successful comic.

As much as I like Dave, I thought he was bring an ass last night. Then again, as Diogenes noted, they all seem to be obnoxious (Dat excepted). I know the game doesn’t require sportsmanship, but it really doesn’t require all of that backbiting, either.

Isabelle, Jeff (Geoff?) was eliminated.

Geoff Brown or the ghost got eliminated. I’m glad that he did, because we didn’t really get to know him all that much.

Dat Phan stinks, I don’t think so… Cory and Tess suck, Rich Vos I abhor. Those three better get the boot soon, so we can have a Dat and Ralphie showdown.

Nah, I hate Ralphie – he horrifies me, plus he’s just not funny. Fat white guy doing black slang – comic genius? You be the judge. Tess isn’t bad – Rich I haven’t seen perform yet (I started watching when they went to the house, so missed all the audition stuff), but I wouldn’t be surprised if he was pretty funny. Yeah, he’s a jerk – but so are the rest of them, including my crushee, Dave.

Hmmm… everybody seems to love Dave, but I can’t stand the guy. Dave can’t be gracious in defeat, and has to insult Dat on camera yet again. Then, he gets the ousted ones to take a collective dump on Dat just because he’s bitter about losing to him? Jeez, this guy is such a loser.

I also think Dave Mordal is an a-hole. If I were God, I’d have Dave’s actions endear Dat Phan to America’s underdog lovin’ public. Dat goes on to win it all and make “Pick a Color”. Mordal is kidnapped by Vietnamese kung-fu gangsters and forced to watch a “Pick a Color” marathon until Mordal’s eyes explode like overripe grapes in a shower of his urine vinagrette.

Oh yeah, and Ralphie needs gastric bypass surgery, stat!

Dat was funnier. I hadn’t seen any of the previous episodes and hadn’t seen any of the comics before (except Rich Vos…I think he was on Tough Crowd with Collin Quinn or something) and I just thought Dat was funnier. Geoff had the audience stop and listen to him, Dat had consistent laughter and good energy to his set.

Yea I was a bit suprised to see Rich Vos in this showdown given that he was on Colin Quinn. Vos has some serious self-esteem issues. I’ve also seen Ralphie May playing Hulk on Jimmy Kimmel Live. I thought Ralphie was a bit of a turd when he told Rob how much respect he had for him for going up against him. The assumption of course was that he was so obviously the biggest challenge in the house. Well yea, I guess he is the “biggest” challenge.
