Last Comic Standing

Is anybody watching this on NBC? I think it’s pretty good as far as reality shows go. The immunity competitions are stupid but other than that it’s not bad.

My favorite comic on there is Dave Mordal, the guy from Minnesota with the very dry wit. I also like the Vietnamese guy, Dat Phan (sp?), but that’s partially because of his tear-jerking description of his childhood in the first episode. He really isn’t the funniest but he’s not the worst either.

Richie, the really big guy, can be funny as hell as well. I think it’ll come down to him and Dave in the final.

Any other thoughts, opinions, predictions for the show?

Oh, yeah, I thought the hide-and-seek trick that they played on Dat was mean but hilarious.

Love this show. The big guy is Ralphie. I hope Dave or Dat win as well. Dave is a riot. Doesn’t look like Dat will last long, although I do think that Geoff will be the next one voted for since he didn’t stick to “the plan”. I love the fact that you don’t just get voted out, but have a chance to beat someone that voted for you to stay in the house, great concept.

Oops, yeah Ralphie is the big guy. Richie is the New York guy.

I’m a fan of this show too.

I absolutely was disgusted by what those guys did to DatPhan and the hide-and-seek bullshit… what are they eleven year old kids making fun with an outsider?

I abhor Tess and Rich Vos.

Tess’ act and schtick is I’m fat and sexy… not funny at all, plus she even laughs at her own jokes. I hope she gets the boot soon.

Rich Vos’ aura of control and mafia schtick is a joke. He isnt funny at all.

Corey ain’t that funny too.

I’m rooting for Dat and Ralphie May. Dat for his drive and Ralphie cuz he’s too funny.

Dave Mordal isn’t that great in my opinion, but maybe cuz he’s part of the “in-crowd” or likes Rich Vos of whom I am purely disgusted by.

Dude. It’s very sad how the comics are threataned by Dat and must resort to acting like jerks to make themselves feel better. Why do they hate him so much? I just don’t get it.

I thought the idea of a terrorist sitcom was friggin’ hillarious.

“One guy has a stutter and he’s the one that calls in bomb threats. But because he stutters the bomb always goes off before he is done.”

“The guy who makes the bombs has one finger left.”

My own additions to the story:

Basically ripping off “The Munsters” they have a cousin who is not a terrorist but really an “All American” guy who hopes to get in to the FBI someday but won’t directly turn in his family and friends.

A chiding grandmother ala “Beverly Hillbillies” who really knows how to make bombs and such but is easily distracted by sub plots and the fact that her male dominated terrorist family refuse to admit the old lady is a better terrorist than any of the men.

Allah himself who shows up to try and convince everyone to knock it off and be nice. In actuality Allah is the reason they are all so inept. He leaves free will alone, but thwarts the evil acts.

Also they all have regular jobs (the men do anyhow) working in tech support for AOL. When a customer gets out of line it’s always the same thing “I will bomb you you bastard!”. One episode will be Habib (the Jethro-like stuttering son) supporting some end user at his AOL tech support job and threatening to bomb him, only to be threatened with bombing in return. During the whole episode the caller and him hunt for eachother and finally meet and realize they have so much in common. Jew hating, American hating, bomb threats, Jihad, stuff like that. They become best friends for life until the caller gets into his car which Habib car-bombed and forgot. Habib tried to warn him but the stuttering made him take too long and so Habib’s ne friend for life dies. But he does get to go to paradise and becomes Habib’s concience, reminding him to hate the infidels and breating his stuttering.

Actually I have a complete season in mind plus a one hour pilot. So if any of you are in production or development for any television companies just drop me a note and we can talk casting. Jamie Farr is who I have in mind for Allah, him or Lou Ferrigno.

The terrorists should also live next door to a family of Jews.

I think Ralphie is totally not funny. I have absolutely no idea whatsoever why everyone seems to think he is.

I will agree with twickster and say Ralphie is not that funny, nor is Tess. They both are doing the tired old fat jokes, and racial stuff. I thought Cantrell, who got the boot, was completely original and very intelligent with his comedy. I hope he gets enough exposure to catch on.

I agree that Tess isn’t funny. Some of Ralphie’s street patois has made me laugh but he seems like kind of a jerk. I also agree that Rob Cantrell was original and bright. He also seems completely unaffected and decent. He was very cool with how he took his ousting. I think that he will go somewhere in his career.

I can’t understand what they have against Dat. It seems like there’s a little clique of these veteran comics who don’t like the younger kids.

I still think that Minnesota Dave is consistently the funniest even though he’s involved in that clique.

Agree on Dave, both that he’s the funniest and that I wish he weren’t in that clique. I’m rooting for him. (Also, he’s kind of sexy to us middle-aged broads.)

I hope the final two come down to him and Rich Vos and that he kicks that ironing fool’s ass.

yeah, what the hell is up with the “Don” Rich Vos always ironing?

And how about that scene with Vos and Mordal in the Jaccuzzi?

The Hide and go Seek just reminded me how cruel and immature people can be, that was ridiculous. As Dat said, success is the best revenge.

I’m hooked on all reality tv, but this is one of the best.

I love the idea that the funniest will remain, so that even if a comic is picked, he/she has a chance to redeem themself through their comedy. I don’t mind the mafia alliance, because in the end, even the “don” will have to prove his comedic worth.

The thing that I HATED was what the group did to Dat. Plain and simple mean. He wasn’t like the cowboy who insulted everyone. He’s just different from the rest. I can’t believe that the group doesn’t recognize that they all appear to be misfits! People in glass houses! I’m glad that D. won immunity, b/c he deserved it more than anybody. He’s not the cool kid, but he has a heart.

I know we don’t see everything that goes on in the house but I really can’t see what they have against Dat. I’ve heard that a lot of comics are just seething with insecurity and hostility on the inside and that humor is a defense mechanism. maybe that’s what’s going on here. Dat seems like the only one who isn’t like that (I guess I don’t know about Geoff. He’s kind of quiet).

I also thought Dat’s sit-com idea was really pretty good. I can actually see him in a show like that. He was the only one who seemed to really take that contest seriously and work hard on his pitch. The rest were just kind of winging it…but I have to admit that Dave’s inept terrorist idea was funny as hell.

I wonder if the entire run has already been filmed (like Survivor) or if the action takes place in semi-realtime (a la I’m a Celebrity, Get me Outta Here).

If the audience can be swayed by the episodes, Dat will get sympathy votes for his hard luck story and being picked on and Rich Vos will have a difficulty time getting any votes.

I, too, find Ralphie rather unfunny and am too distracted by his morbid obesity to laugh at him.

When the clique was laughing at Dat, he should have either walked out or tried to make a joke of it (i.e. “It’s not smart to tease the guy with the sharp sword”, and do some mock kung fu moves).

Next week, when Rich Vos confronts Dat and tells him he doesn’t like Dat and doesn’t think Dat has done a single funny thing, I hope Dat stands up for himself and tells Rich he doesnt think Rich has done a single funny thing either. Btw, I think Dat’s martial arts is pretty entertaining to watch and his jokes and weird journal was funny.

Okay, I’m kind of confused. The two times that I’ve seen this show, it was on Comedy Central. At what time is it on NBC? Also, what exactly did they do to Dat?

It’s on Tuesday nights at 9:00 Eastern (right after “Dog Eat Dog”).

They told Dat they were going to play hide and go seek – he hid, no one else sought. It was profoundly unfunny.

Ralph makes fat jokes a lot & they get old quickly. Not searching for Dat was pretty funny.

It’s my favorite reality show by quite a wide margin. If I were to put money on someone, it would be Dave Mordal. His delivery is perfect and his material is solid. WHen I watched the first try out in week one, I was quite literally crying I was laughing so hard. I thought his tv show idea was a riot as well.

I also liked Rob Cantrell and was shocked at the 85-15 margin as Ralphie set was weak (I thought) His act is original and I hope his career is long and fruitful.

Rich Vos (his hatred of Canadians notwithstanding) is also a favorite of mine. I’ve always been fond of self-deprecating humour. He’s not Dave Mordal calibre but not bad.

Tess and Cory(sp?) both have fairly unoriginal sets. They aren’t unfunny but I can’t forsee them winning.

Dat Phan had a good first set and a decent second set. I could see him making the final three.

Ralphie is either really funny or really unfunny. His set against Rob was not terribly funny. I thought it would’ve been a closer score.

Geoff Brown isn’t too bad but I don’t see him winning. I just think Dave Mordal is on a totally different level.

I think the show is filmed real time ( as in not all filmed already), only because at the Improv here in Irvine, California, it showed last comic standing being the act about 2 weeks ago. But it’s a small place, so who knows, maybe a bunch of them were just coming there.

I actually say Tess at the Improv as an opener, she was damn hilarious. I was laughing so hard. She hasn’t made me laugh as hard on the show though. I’m rooting for Dat Phan just because I like his persona. Pretty sure Dave will make it far though.
