Last Episode of Six Feet Under - most unsettling scene

Odd that they would not use Lisa’s death in the opening 5 minutes…perhaps that will be the beginning of next season…we still don’t know if she was murdered, or if it was suicide, or an accident…so that story isn’t quite dead yet…and if it were not for the fact that they actually put birth and death date at the end of the episode, the skeptic in me would have thought it was a scam death.

Creepiest line to me was Arthur saying “I think I will take this piece of cake to my room and enjoy it there.” (or however he said it.) Doesn’t he seem like he is going to explode with some big secret soon?

And somehow I think Ruth’s wedded bliss might be short-lived. Not quite sure how, but I think the bubble is gonna pop on that happily-ever-after sooner than later.

At any rate, an excellent episode.

Wow. I really enjoyed the episode. I liked that they did not carry over the Lisa disappearance until next season. I’m not a big fan of cliffhangers, especially on these types of shows, when the seasons are so far apart. I was really thinking that something was going to come up about Nate’s coma, guess I was way off on that one. At least it’s resolved, just when I was starting to like the Lisa character, ah well.

Nate is definitely losing it, what great scenes. I liked the Brenda/Nate switch, now he’s the basket case. I think I’m the only one who didn’t see this one coming!

Throwing in Gabe was a nice touch, I thought, giving Claire some kind of closure on that relationship. Claire crying during the wedding was the scene that got me, with everyone going on like nothing was wrong. I also thought it was a cathartic type of cry, but I thought she’d at least get a “you ok?” from someone!

I know there’s a lot of ‘break up and get it over with!’ with David and Keith, but I agree with Happy Lendervedder, it’s realistic. They love each other, but maybe aren’t right or good for each other. It’s hard to accept that sometimes love just isn’t enough.

Can’t wait til next season!

DMark: dead on about Arthur - I am positive he’s going to go postal any time now. I thought that almost-romance between him and Ruth was eewwwww. He’ll probably sneak around the house one night with a hatchet and…well, maybe not.
I seem to recall this season started sometime last winter (December?) - it’s going to be a long summer.

Welcome to the board, WavyRabbit. I’m just as new as you…

Nate Sr. egging his son on to drive off a cliff was definitely disturbing. Yeah, he’s got a different perspective on death…but still…

Nate Sr crying was unexpected. He’s always been the steady one.

I don’t think Claire was crying from happiness–I think she just lost control.

How did Nate know Brenda’s address? It didn’t look like Brenda was expecting him, so it’s doubtful he called first.

I think we can trust Claire’s vision, and Gabe is dead. They don’t mess with us about things like that. (No, wait, they do…remember episode 1 this season?) But her vision told her, correctly, that Lisa was dead.

Speaking of which, I missed or mis-heard some dialog. When Claire first saw Lisa, she said something to the effect of “are you just visiting, too?” and I swear Lisa said she was. So I was surprised and confused by how the scene played out.

I was kinda happy for him to. And it was cute that he was so naive. But he treated the stripper like shit afterwards. He lost a lot of goodwill from me when he did that. She did something very nice for him and he just was an asshole.

All the Nate Sr. scenes were awesome. As was the David/Keith stuff. Hopefully Nate can start putting his life back together now that he’s hit the bottom.

I love Claire so much.

For some reason, the David/Keith dialog about Keith locking his cr cracked me up: “F*** you, car, you’re locked now.” I’m gonna start saying that to my car.

Haha- one of my friends has already started saying that to her car. Classic line.

THAT was pretty sick. Lisa popping up in the back seat didn’t help things. Props to Peter Krause; it’s hard to make the line “I don’t wanna die” un-cliche, but I thought he did it.

She was missing and presumed dead, it’s not exactly precognition. And she doesn’t actually know that Lisa is definitely dead, since it seems Nate still hasn’t told anyone.

Lisa said something like “You’re not [dead]- are you?” to Claire, and Claire gave some kind of startled “no” in response. Lisa said “Oh, good.” Maybe you got confused as to who said what?

I totally agree. It was just bizarre that no one offered her any comfort though. Good cry or not, it was still upsetting to watch.

The crying scene with Nate, Sr. really took me by surprise. I assumed it was Nate crying after coming back from his drive. Very touching scene, and heartbreakingly sad especially when Ruth turned her back on him and walked away.

I thought it was interesting that Nate took the info about Lisa’s death and kept it to himself. Brenda will probably be the first to know that Lisa’s dead instead of the rest of his family. I think his showing up at Brenda’s door was an act of sheer desperation. It was either that or kill himself.

As for predictions for next season–I don’t have a good track record with predictions for this show at all. I’ve been wrong about 3/4 of the time. However, I will say that I think that Arthur is a ticking timebomb. That boy just ain’t right.

I’m 95% sure Lisa said, “Tell me you’re just visiting!” But I’ll watch the rerun tonight to find out. That episode was definitely worthy of a second look.

I liked that Nate Sr. kept turning up in everyone’s visions. It’s such a great way to give windows on each character’s mental states–
For Claire, we saw him perfectly & content with his own death and Ruth’s remarriage.
For Ruth, we saw him sobbing at her wedding.
For Nate Jr., we saw him egging his son on towards death.

Does Nate have any redeeming qualities whatsoever? At all? Jesus. I can’t stand him. Yelling at Ruth like he’s freaking 13! I’ve never heard so much self-obsessed teenage angst pour out of a should-be adult. Holy crow, what a pathetic waste. Can’t wait for him to die, which means he never will.

Poor Arthur. I like that guy. The look of heartbreak on his face as he watched Ruth dance, and his forced cheer when he says he’ll enjoy the cake in his room. Poor guy.

As for the Rico-and-the-stripper thing, that was just annoying on a lot of levels.
A) It would be lovely if, for one single, solitary time, a show on HBO (or any R-rated movie, for that matter) could refrain from having the goddamn cliche Strip Club Scene ™.
B) Turns out strippers DO want to get to know guys in the audience better! Silly me, thinking she was just buttering him up to get him into the Champagne Room.
C) And hey, it also turns out that strippers DO want to suck the dicks of men in the audience-- as a favor!

“Six Feet Under” is seriously divorced from reality in a broad range of ways. A lot of times that’s entertaining, sometimes it’s painful, and sometimes it’s just stupid. I watch the show because my husband loves it. There are worse ways to pass the time between turns of Scrabble, but man, it’s just not the show for me.

Yeah, I was really laughing my ass off at the stripper giving Rico head too. Him offerring to pay her? That’s exactly what I would have done too if a stripper had met me & blown me that night. (and I’ve dated a couple strippers too. It’s just a job, like me doing tech support).

OTOH, Rico is still married and just because he’s stuck with his cunt (yes, I realize what I typed and that’s what I meant) SIL in the house and his wife ignoring him (that part’s realistic), doesn’t mean he can just go out & let any hotty suck him off.

Poor, poor Nate. He’s really gone off the deep end. I understand his guilt over the whole relationship with Lisa. I hope he pulls his shit together soon. Nate Sr. & Lias in the back seat were great.

Anyone still thinking that George is a con man? I’m leaning more that way, after he went to talk to Nate in the carriage house.

Too bad Gabe is dead. I was hoping to see more of him.

Arthur: his actions at the wedding just creeped me out more. Can this guy be more disconnected from his feelings and instincts?

I can’t wait for the re-runs. There weer a couple episodes I missed this season 7 last season.

My parents have been watching Six Feet Under since the beginning, but last night was the first time I’d ever watched an episode.

I found it kind of surprising, actually. It was easier to understand who everyone was than I’d been led to believe, except for Gabe and Lisa (I heard that Nate’s wife died, but I didn’t know what she looked like so I didn’t recognize her when she was talking to Claire; I didn’t know who Gabe was).

Do the people who die in the first scenes usually impact the plot more than in this episode?

Who is that Arthur guy, anyway? I mean, I know he’s weird, but what does he do in relation to the family?

“F**k you, car, you’re locked now” was absolutely hilarious.

When Claire started crying, I was confused and unsettled. David and Keith didn’t offer any consolation, either. They sat there idly playing with Maya. What was up with that?

C’s G: Yes, the Stiff of the Week is usually a more significant plot thread; but then, they usually have a service. This is the first time they gave away the job, that I recall.

Arthur is a mortician intern, introduced this season, so he helps with general mortician duties. Plus he had a thing with Ruth (although he seems to be a virgin.) And, boy howdy, is he weird.

I really liked Claire and Gabe’s scene, but in my head I’m going “uh oh.”

I almost wish HBO would post a disclaimer for impressionable people: “This is not what’s gonna happen when you die!”

I know, it’s silly, and maybe I worry too much, but sometimes when I hear about a young person who has committed suicide, I wonder if they understand the finality. That death isn’t like taking a break, and you will not come back later, all rested and refreshed and with all your shit together.
