So I don’t see the MMP this morning so I’ll start it.
Guess everyone can sleep in or find stuff to do early on a Monday.

And first! Got a full night’s sleep last night and feel pretty good, ready to do the shop-n-sammich run here in a couple hours. Should be a good week, shots on Tuesday and soccer most of the week.
Woke up after dreaming there were dead people in my back yard, along with all kinds of other weird shit happening around me. Sheesh. ![]()
We’re supposed to get rain today starting in a couple of hours, but it’s bright sunshine at the moment.
It’ll be bagels with avocado and some cheesy eggs once the wife awakens in another 15 minutes or so.
the office fish are doing well. they were very busy over the weekend and the sand is noticeably cleaner.
it is the last day of straw hat season. get those wool hats ready!
I slept in till 8 - Mel did his job!! I took a 3-in-1 slow-release that was a bit slow to start, but then I was gone. I figure I got 10-11 hours, so I feel human this morning. Yay. I needed it.
Cupcake’s post about her family reunion got me thinking. My mom and a couple of her cousins are the last of that generation. My cousin Eleanor is 82 or 83 and she’s the eldest of my generation, the youngest being in her late 50s, 13 in all. No clue about kids and grands and possible great-grands. FCD has one aunt left - and we’ll be visiting her in a few weeks. Sobering…
One thing I intend to do today is go to Food Lion - they have a sale on my favorite yogurt. I should fill a gas can, too, since the mowers are almost on fumes. I’ll deal with the mowage, too. The rest will be made up as I go along.
SIL called yesterday and asked if he and the kids could stay with us for a few days. Apparently Daughter want some serious “me-time” to clean house and just be alone. I declined. I love my grands, but after a few hours, I want to sell them to the closest circus. I offered to go help Daughter with cleaning, but that’s not alone enough. I’m sure they’ll figure something out.
I learned the other day that the Princess Plus fare for our cruise doesn’t include any meals in the fancy venues. It’s not that big a deal, but it was surprising. On Holland America last year, we got 3 premium venue meals. But, like I said, not a big deal. Even buffet food is quite good so being fed in a small room is about the limit of the appeal. We’re 137 days from embarkation - I need to review the documents I’ve printed and make sure we’ve taken care of all the pre-cruise requirements.
Tomorrow is my annual check-up with the cardiologist, plus the grands will be spending the night because SIL has a procedure at stoopit o’clock in the morning and Daughter has to go with him. And Otis sees the vet on Weds. So, a fun filled week ahead.
Happy Moanday!!
My evil dad often told me my room looked like a pigsty, but he never told me what kind of tie a pig wears. My searchy thingy says numptie, or numpty, is a Scots word for fool. I can feel for that. I’ve lost count of all the foolish things I’ve said and done. My brain likes to drag them out of the dusty cellars of the past and whack me over the head with them. That’s a nasty habit, and I wish I could break it.
Our favorite handyman will be dropping by this morning to give us an estimate on a list of things we need done.
(I wrote the following in the previous MMP before Metal_Mouse started the new one.)
We watched the last part of The Sheep Detectives last night. Very good flick. Rambunctious at times.
When I hear that phrase, I always picture a guy selling hot chocolate out of a truck.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up, caffeinated and fed so no YAWN. 'Tis 77 Amurrkin out and sunny with a predicted high of 92 and sunny. Heat index wise it will feel like 96 ferrets. Good day to be inside in the a/c, which is the plan of the day. We have nowhere we need or want to be. Thus we shall hone our RDOS sloth skills. Even sup will be slothful as I shall heat up leftovers from Sattidy. I mean I was busy, for me, yestiddy, so I deserve this. I will need to drag our neighbor’s and our trash cans all the way back up the driveway to where they live at some point. I think I heard the trash truck a little bit ago.
MOOOOOOM don’t blame you for sayin’ no. Their kids, their problem. Hope they figure it out. I need to get mower gas as well. I could go down the street to fill up the trash can, but just don’t see that happenin’ today.
OK, I guess it’s onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Moanday Y’all!
Mornin’ everyone.
It’s 53F, damp and cloudy outside. It’ll remain cloudy until mid to late afternoon, where it’ll be mostly cloudy, with a daytime high of 67F.
FCM, I would take a day off work every once in a while when the kids were in daycare, and later school, to just clean the house and have it to myself. My husband would be at work, and I could get the house done without interruption.
The last family reunion I attended was in the 1990s, and it was for my Dad’s side of the family. With all of his generation gone, except for my Aunt Judy, the reunions stopped. While I’m Facebook-friendly with a couple of cousins and one step-cousin, we don’t communicate. My mother’s side of the family all live in Germany, and both her brothers and her sisters are gone. She was the oldest sibling and has outlived them all. I am not sure if she has any contact with the family back there now that the sisters are gone. I had contact with one of the cousins there for a couple few years, but that stopped, too.
As for my husband’s side of the family, we have absolutely no contact with any of them. Once his mother died, that was that.
The food at the restaurant was outstanding. I had the Tanaka Classic, made with some of the richest, most delicious pork broth I have ever tasted. We will be back. We got there right at opening, and within 20 minutes, people were lined up outside, in the rain, to get in. We were lucky to get a seat when we arrived. It’s very small inside, with some outdoor seating, but no one wants to eat outside in the rain, even with table umbrellas.
While Mr. Tater’s appetite has slowly gotten better, he still felt foggy yesterday. Still, he did a fair bit of VR racing and gaming, so I know he’s getting there.
I need to run the vacuum today and do some dusting, too. Actually, I dust first, then I vacuum. I also have some carboard to break down, and both the garbage and recycling need to go down to the curb tonight.
I think that might be all I’ll do today. We’ll see. On our way home from lunch yesterday, we stopped at Safeway to get the required doggy ice cream and couple of other items. So, I don’t really need to be out and about.
Take care of yourselves, please.
They are finally fixing it. It was a faulty valve after all.
63 degrees out, wearing my hoodie.
Good Morning! I have the week off, as Mrs Magill and I will head off to Hershey, PA tomorrow for the RV show. I was surprised that it’s only a twelve hour drive. We’ll be there for Wednesday and most of Thursday. We’ll head home Thursday afternoon and find a place to overnight for a bit and finish the drive Friday morning.
Coq au Vin II (electric bugaloo) is in the slow cooker. This time it’s plugged in! Mrs Magill asked if it were plugged in this time, then immediately apologized for the sarcastic question. I reassured her that it was, in fact, a completely reasonable question with my track record. Oddly enough, the kitchen smells really good this time.
I keep looking at the box of Estradiol patches in my apothecary drawer and think about how much of a big, unprecedented step that’s going to be. I think I’m ready.
Still is. I need to tell him. I’m not afraid he’ll reject me. He’s shown repeatedly that his love for my brother, sister, and me is unconditional. I just know it will cause him to worry about me and the road I’m on.
I’m still ticked that the birds picked my raspberries clean this summer. I had only managed one small harvest. In fact, everything I’d grown this year has been a disappointment, except the potatoes. I’ve almost worked my way through them.
That’s where I’d gotten that one from.
Afternoon.
One of the perks of the PhD is that I occasionally work with some plant breeders, and they generate more berries than any human could possibly eat, so I sometimes wind up with kilos of the things. I’ve stuffed the freezer full, but I want to try and blag some plants as well, because I don’t think I’ll be finding a job there, and I’ll really miss 'em next year.
I’m now finally harvesting tomatillos, and trying to adapt recipes that very unhelpfully give measurements like ‘6 medium tomatillos’ which, if you’ve never seen 'em for sale so have no basis for size comparison is not in any way useful. Are mine medium? Small? Extra small? Laughably tiny? I’m pretty sure they’re not world record giant ones because I’ve seen pictures of one that filled someone’s palm, but maybe they had teeny tiny hands?
OK, I’m overthinking, but I reckon I overdid the lime juice in salsa batch 1. There’s a lot more coming to play with though. Hopefully by the time they’re ready I should have some brain available as well. Only 2 more MMPs to go until my hand in date.
Sounds like good news all around (thus far). And some yumminess.
I finished a big writing organizational project, this weekend, or so I hope. Today I’ll be doing some tidying up, and possibly mowage, and whatever my lovely wife wants to do.
My big crock pot has a light to indicate it’s on, but the little one doesn’t. In each case, I’ve gotten into the habit of feeling the sides of the cooker to be sure it’s getting hot. Forgot to do the same the other day when I was boiling eggs (on the stovetop) but I figured out pretty quick that the knob needed to be turned. The thing I’ve done far too many times is take a pot off the stove and not turn the burner off. So now I frequently look at the stove for indicator lights, just in case.
Oh, how I hate that! We’re using My Fitness Pal to track our food intake, and while the app has a huge database of foods, the least helpful are those listed as “One serving.” Whose serving? A teenage boy? A geriatric woman? Sheesh…
It’s been a productive day so far. I ran the ice maker (still running it, in fact) and loaded and ran the dishwasher. I made quick stops at Food Lion, Aldi, and a random gas station to get lawnmower fuel. Then I came home and mowed - the lawn really needed taming. I also made lunch for my sweetie and me.
Food Lion has rotisserie chickies on sale thru tomorrow, and since Daughter and her spawn will be here for supper, I’ll pick one up tomorrow afternoon. Sides TBD. I think I’m going to have a sit-down and do the sudoku I usually do before getting out of bed. Then, who knows…
Good afternoon everyone!
It dawned drizzly and foggy but has cleared up now.
Painter’s girlfriend is still recovering in Virginia, but he doesn’t make money if he’s not working and he has a family to feed. He’s here now but I’ve noticed he’s been spending a lot of time on his phone so I expect he’ll bail early and finish up tomorrow.
I have a stack of stuff to work on while I’m not at my desk and while it would usually take less than half an hour to get through, I keep having to stop and find things.
Hubs picked out a sampler pack of shine for NF when he was last at the distillery. When I was able to write well enough for other people to make it out, I didn’t have a box or cardboard to cut up for a box, so it sat on my desk for a week. Then I came down with that horrible crud so nothing happened.
This morning I cut down a box, sealed it up and realized that I didn’t know her last name. I’m sure I did at some point in time but I didn’t put it in her address entries and it was gone.
I got that figured out and addressed the box, then remembered that I still own NF 16.00 for the flowers she got TC friend. We don’t write checks, I have NO idea where the check book is and Hubs is out on a road.
This shouldn’t be this complicated!
I think I’m ready.
I think you are very brave.
I’m hearing his bike, I should probably let him have a minute before asking him to look for the checkbook. He knows where it is probably, he writes a check to the garbage company every three months.
Too late to edit,
That bit was to Molly.
Hubs brought in the mail and handed me a windowed envelop, no return address. I opened it thinking it was an add and was pleasantly surprised to find a check from a class action lawsuit. I add my name to any I can and have gotten little bits of money in the past - less than a dollar in one memorial case - but this one was worth the effort. 127.33. Hmmmm, I wonder what’s going to break?
Last time I got I got more than ten bucks, a part on the smoker broke and just happened to cost every penny of my “free” money.
I really wonder how much the lawyers got if there was that much left for us claimants.
I’ve already paid for my new wimple, so that’s not it. (My first wimple had a cardboard stiffener that didn’t do well in the laundry. My current one has a nice stiff Pellon interfacing which droops in high humidity. My new one will have a thick plastic covered fabric interfacing which should stand up to another’s years wear.)
I look up weights, i.e. how many grams is in a tomatillo = average weight is 34 grams. Of course that is getting harder because I don’t want AI making things up for me.
I learned last night that we have blackberries behind the shed. I noticed some dark colored possum prints and went looking around to be sure they hadn’t gotten into something they shouldn’t have. I have never seen them irl so looked them up online and learned that they were blackberries! Not really trusting google anymore either, I texted Harry who told me that yes, they are indeed black berries.
So now I have to figure out if I want to do anything with them or leave them all for the birds.
I’m glad you found a new eatin’ place and that the Mr was well enough to enjoy it with you. I like to sit outside in the rain as long as I have an umbrella or something. That might change now that I’m somewhere it rains more often than five times a year (if I’m lucky).
That sounds like quite enough effort for one day, you will probably have to make two trips!
Tent camping is cheap and fun! Dad took all of us kids weekend camping twice a year just so Mom could get a break. We got to pee in the dirt and eat burnt food off sticks while Mom got to enjoy a glass of wine in a bubble bath.
Good thing you don’t have a back yard anymore, right! Enjoy your sunshine and I hope it doesn’t get too hot.
I’m gonna need a bigger mouth.
Hey Mollie! Are you staying anywhere exciting when you go to Hershey (other than in an RV)? I mean like the Hershey Hotel or the Hershey Lodge? I love Hershey!
Today was a looooong day. Mostly uneventful, though. Tomorrow I only have one student because the other was very sick last night and even went to the hospital.
Hey, question for y’all…. I need to come up with a birthday present for a woman turning 60. Thoughts? I really don’t know much about her so I can’t really give lots of insights.
Not unless you consider the Days Inn exciting
![]()
We haven’t acquired an RV yet. I think Mrs Magill is holding out for the electric ones.
Howdy Y’all! I did manage to accomplish draggin’ the neighbor’s and our trash cans all the way back up from the road to where they stay and later this mornin’ walk all the way back down the driveway to get the mail and walk all the way back up! I needed nappage after that. Outside of that stoopid teevee, day drinkin’, and nukin’ and eatin’ leftovers have been the efforts of the day. I put the sloth in RDOS I does!
Taters good to know Mr. Taters is on the mend. Glad you had a nice time at the restaurant. The menu does look nummy! Glad to see the doggy ice cream has been resupplied and that Maizie and Buster have their yummies.
Coppertone HUZZAH for the leak finally bein’ fixed!
Mollie if at first you don’t succeed, coq au vin again. We will be here when you begin your journey and with you all the way. I once stayed at a Days Inn that caught on fire. That was excitatement for sure! The fire was in the laundry and no one was in there and everyone else got out safe. I was able to get all my stuff and go stay at a Red Roof Inn across the street. That was an irk trip back in the day.
Nuts the end is nigh and soon we can call you Dr. Nuts!
Lily conga rats on finishin’ up the bit organizational thingy!
MOOOOOOM I cannot leave da cave unless I have checked to see if the oven and burners are off even if I haven’t used 'em.
JtC our checkbook lives in a specific little drawer in the dresser. Whenever a check needs to be written, whoever is goin’ to do so opens the drawer and leaves it open until the checkbook is safely back in place. This works because neither of us can stand open drawers, so it gets done post haste. Hope the painter’s wife continues to improve and is back home soonest. Yay for the found money. Spend it before the universe finds out! I manage to do the trash cans in one trip. I can drag both empty cans up from the road at the same time. I put ours where it stays and then just have to walk a very short distance to put neighbor’s trash can where it stays. I am lazy and efficient!
Sticky_Buns hope your student gets sprung from the horsepistol soonest. I am not a very good bday present, or any kind of present, buyer. If it’s a joke gift, maybe a box of Depends or one of those weird large print find a work puzzle books? A magnifyin’ glass? A pair of readers?
