Moooom, Goodnight Saigon has always been one of my favorite Billy Joel numbers too. Having a number of vets from that war, including the man I lived with for nine years, in my life, it strikes a chord.
Of course, for the same reasons as metal mouse, so does Allentown.
Lily, what instrument does your son play?
My favorite potato cakes are the ones I learned to make from my granny. They’re basically the leftover mashed potatoes from last night’s supper with some chopped onion and an egg or two to hold them together stirred up and dropped on the griddle.
We’re having some loud thunderboomers today and it has rained on and off. This afternoon, I’ll knock off an hour early to go get my oil changed, then go vote.
** 1 1/2 cup mashed potato flakes
*1 tsp flour
salt & pepper to taste
1 tbsp parsley flakes
1 tbsp dried onion
enough warm water to make them stick together 1/4 to 1/2 c mebbe?
mix all ingredients by hand (should form a dough)
pat into patties
fry on medium to high heat in a little bit of vegetable or olive oil until golden brown & crispy on each side
drain on paper towels
NOM NOM NOM
(As always, measurements are approximate!)
** (the only thing potato flakes are good for, I dislike them otherwise)
I have been on the phone with TPTB [del]arguing[/del] about water shutoff. All straightened out now. Good thing I’ve started keeping paper printouts for every payment I make. Their system didn’t show the payment, but I had enough info that they could go in and manually find the record and match it back. Yay - computers! Sort of.
Other than that, DH is in Rome for the week at a Sales Conference for his new company. He’s not in Sales, he’s an Engineer, so he’s dreading the whole thing. I was so lonely last night I actually let the cats in the room!
Tonight shall be movie night with the kiddos. Pizza and Red Box in front of the TV. Ah, the decadence of being unsupervised.
Howdy Y’all! Another day of irk survived. YAY! OYKW is stoppin’ at the sto’ to get some fried chikin and sides for dindin. Da bear deigns not to cook. However I shall make up a batch of pimento cheese for tomorrow’s soup ‘n sammich over to the church house. Also, we are at a slight risk for some “significant weather” later this evenin’. I do believe that is fancy weather PTB talk for “it might rain.”
MOOOOOOM yay on the new gig! Now FCD and you can ride to irk together and have intimate N.O.L.s every day. It’s like a dream come true!
My oldest son plays strictly percussion now, but he started with trumpet, clarinet, and oboe. Youngest son plays clarinet and just started on the saxophone this semester.
I found half of a Twix bar that I had hidden away in case of a chocolate crisis. Since today has not sucked at all so far, I decided not to wait and enjoyed that Twix in celebration of a debacle free day. I don’t have many days like that at irk and may not get another for a while, so yay for days that don’t suck!
Probably not. We can ride in together and he can drop me off - we’ll be working at 2 different facilities - he’s in prototyping, I’ll be in trainers. That is, I’ll be designing maintenance trainers for different aircraft and systems. As I understand, that particular group is really slammed, so I expect to be pretty busy pretty quick.
I just finished penning my letter of resignation - never had to write one of those before! I went with the classics: “So long, and thanks for all the fish!”
OK, it was a tad more professional than that, and I didn’t slam them for wasting so much of my time. I want next Thurs to be my last day, unless they have major heartburn about it. Poor Jason…
Meanwhile, **FCD **is sleeping on the couch and Higgs is gnawing on an antler. Good times, good times!
Oh yeah, and thanks all for the congrats! I wasn’t ignoring you - I’m just excited!!
We et dindin and I made a buncha pimento cheese that will turn into sammiches tomorrow. Oh and we went to DQ. I had a Blizzard and OYKW had a 'nanner split. YUM!
My supper we, um, unique. I had some almonds, an orange, and a toaster waffle with peanut butter. **FCD **ate some pistachios. Ice cream later, methinks.
Feeling better enough that I plan on returning to work tomorrow. Watching History of the World Part One helped. And so did the two pots of blueberry and cinnamon tea. That way I can claim to be one of the few Mumpers to drink more tea than Boo and our other Brits AND I could see someone else run with Mucus.
The oil is changed, I voted, gassed up the car and an odd supper of leftover Tom Khaa soup, rice and leftover schwarma (however you spell it). Now my phone is blowing up from political friends ragging on one candidate or the other.
