Left 4 Dead 2 SDMB Game on Xbox

Um. Possibly. If so, it’ll only be for a shortish while, as I have to play some Halo tonight.

I’m on the Xbox now, not sure how to set up a SDMB game

and I’m online as well

Well, first “official” match with myself and willthekittensurvive overall we did well up to the mall, just couldn’t get the gas cans to the stock car without getting mobbed, thanks to WTKS for a great game and putting up with a newb like me

the game is a heck of a lot more fun with human players running co-op, planning strategy and such

Okay, so I missed last night, sorry. Kiddo was late going to bed, and then I went to bed early, to ensure domestic tranquility. I’ll give it another go tonight.

I’ve found that my play style in L4D2 tends to alternate between distinct styles depending on my weapon choice…

Shotgun; I tend to take point and get up close and personal with the undead, to quote Ash from Army of Darkness, YOU SEE THIS, THIS IS MY BOOMSTICK!

I’m not really a fan of the submachine weapons (M-16, AK-47, supressed machine gun) as there is too much temptation to waste ammo and “rock n’ roll”

Sniper rifle; I just discovered this in single player, and I like to hang back and make precision headshots on the undead, I’ll be using this gun more in the game as long range precision shooting is more my style

Since my 360 is hooked into my Dolby Digital/DTS home theatre, I found that it greatly helps me track down the “special” infected, WTKS can confirm this, I was able to I.D. boomers/jockeys/witches and the like from audio position alone, during a group game we can use my home theatre for strategic planning

Hey Max

Real life beats zombie apocalypse every time, so no big deal,

It was a lot of fun, I’m loved the cricket bat…shame we have such a large time difference
maybe we try to get a weekend game one of these days , night for me and early afternoon for you guys

and yeah, Mac was able to pin point all the specials all the time on audio clue’s alone,

I think what might be fun would be “themed” games with enough players…

“Rednecks R Us”; all firearms and explosives, no meelee weapons

“The Winchester” (Shawn of the dead mode); no firearms, melee weapons (cricket bats and the like) only, may be difficult with tanks/chargers

“Big bada boom!”; explosives/Molotovs/bile jars

“Treehugger/Zombiehugger”; no weapons, avoid only

I’m not up for a game tonight, unfortunately, had a long day at work, breaking down self-check-out cash registers, moving their heavy components around, and dealing with a mind-boggling amount of filth on the components, coincidentally, I’m absolutely shattered, and in no condition to game tonight, I actually feel somewhat zombie-esque myself right now

time for a nice hot shower to get the dirt and grime off me which feels like it’s embedded/bonded at a molecular level and an early bedtime

…let’s just say that self-check-out register breakdown could feature on an episode of Discovery Channel’s “Dirty Jobs” and leave it at that…

…I’ll never look at self-checkout registers the same way again <shudder>…

I decline. Give me a sniper rifle, please.

Last night I did get a ten minute solo game in before going to bed, and since WTKS liked the cricket bat, I decided to give it a try…

Good squelchy fun!

Striking a zombie with the cricket bat almost always decapitated the zombie with a nice visceral splat, I see why WTKS likes it

still, I’m more of a sniper myself, that is, when I’m not blasting them close range with the shotgun, the shotgun has the close in advantage of taking down at least one zombie per each shot, when used in a close quarters horde mob, it can take out two or three if the shooter is lucky

Still, nothing beats headshots from a distance, scoped rifle FTW

While I do like the sniper, in general I like the AK. The rate of fire seems just about right, and while headshots are fun, so is making zombieburgers. But, different guns work better on different maps; a sniper’s great for the first two levels of Hard Rain, but after that, gimmie an AK or a shotgun.

Sniper rifle for me, please. After that, the shotgun, and after that, the other rifles.

Hit detection is so spotty in this game, though. I’ll shoot a zombie and it’ll react like i haven’t even grazed it. It was in the first one and it’s clearly in the second as well.

I just played a quick solo game (work is really tiring me out) and two memorable instances occured, one showing how sometimes the game gets ballistics right, and sometimes it gets them shockingly WRONG

Right; I was shooting the semiauto Sniper Rifle (looks like the AR-15 with a scope), I had the scope crosshairs up, and was lined up for a perfect headshot on a zombie, as I pulled the trigger, two more zombies stumbled into the line of fire, the single projectile took all three down, three headshots from one bullet!

assuming the rifle in question is firing a .30 caliber (7.62mm) FMJ (Full Metal Jacket) bullet, it’s entirely possible for one FMJ round to have enough energy to penetrate three zombie skulls, FMJ rounds don’t “mushroom” on impact, but pass through a (relatively) soft target like a human skull, especially a softened/diseased zombie skull

If the sniper rifle was firing a 5.56mm bullet, a triple-headshot would be less likely as 5.56mm is designed to break apart/fragment on impact with a soft target, and more than likely would have disintegrated inside the first zombie skull

Wrong; after getting into the safe room, I was taking potshots at zombies from behind the locked/barricaded safe room door, shooting into an area partially obscured by a chain link fence, and getting accurate hits, heck, i was even able to shoot through the steel window bars of the safe room door, at the very least, the window bars ehould have caused ricochets or at least bullet disintegration.shrapnel on impact as the bullet broke apart, to say nothing of scoring accurate hits on targets obscured by a chain link fence…

I know, I know, just repeat to myself “It’s just a game, I should really just relax”
