In this thread, the buttocks lekatt accused me of showing disrespect to my country. When challenged TWICE to provide evidence of that charge, the posterior ignored it. It seems that lekatt is unable to keep his mind abreast of the falsehoods he’s tossing around (What the country was founded on, etc.) in that thread, so what we’re going to do is have a one issue and one issue only thread right here in The Pit.

I don’t know about the “disrespect for my country” part, but after reading the argument in the thread you come off as a jerk who wanted to pick a fight. They expressed a personal opinion about the state of the current generation, the reasons for this opinion were in the post he quoted. You then pull a cheap and un-needed “cite” on him.
Ok. Since you had the good humor to go along with my jest, I guess I owe you a genuine response.
Personally, I think you may have been a little touchy. It seems to me Lekatt was philosophizing in a general sense about the right of people to be disrepectful to the flag and the country and the pledge and so on, and was not specifically including you in a group that had or was engaged in such disrepectful actions.
Doesn’t look like that big of a deal to me.

Lekatt has shut off his mind from any opposing points of view. He lives in a fantasy world where things are true because he really really wants them to be. He’s not about to let silly things like “facts” or “evidence” get in his way.
I know nothing about the original thread but I can tell you that Blalron has it right.
Getting annoyed with Lekatt for lekatting is like getting annoyed with a Hoover for vacuum cleaning: he’s so closely associated with what he does, he’s lent his name to the phenomena he displays.
If you are going to argue, be prepared for the long haul. If he does give you a cite, it probably won’t be relevant. If he says he’s already given you a cite he probably hasn’t. If he recounts something from personal experience it’s probably never happened to him. If he says something he’ll probably say the opposite in a page or two
I have to admit though, the idea of Monty the angrily unstoppable raging bull, meeting Lekatt the unmoveable all-absorbing blancmange is kind of amusing.
I should print this out and tape it to my monitor. Yet another thread (Is pledge anti-american?) becomes a trainwreck, with “I’m so spiritual, my experiences are reality, skeptics are icky” bs. Whatever benefits claimed NDEs may bring, humility does not appear to be one of them.
What’s especially worrisome is that his bigotry and slander really isn’t that uncommon. While some of his ideas are almost universally seen as kooky, many of them enjoy disturbingly widespread support, including:
the teaching of evolution is biased against the religious
atheism is a religion
atheists are out to destroy society
atheists want to ban the word “God”
the absence of theism is the same as atheism
failing to support the religious right’s agenda is the same as attacking them
Monty and Scylla have both made several posts in this thread which contained no references to religion. Are they therefore atheists? Are their posts atheist? Is GQ an atheist forum because the mods insist that witnessing go in GD? If you read a math book and don’t see any mention of God, would you consider the book to be promoting atheism?
Some people seem to think that being Christian means spending every waking moment telling everyone else that they should be Christian, and that anyone who thinks that public school teachers shouldn’t evangelize while on the clock is asking them to become atheists.
