I am using Mozilla Firefox as my browser. When I put the cursor on a topic in TSD. a text pops up with the beginning of the thread. But it disappears in about 5 seconds, not long enough to actually read it. Is there any way of lengthening that time?
This is know as a tooltip. Assuming that Firefox is using the windows API for creating this (which may be a bad assumption) then you can alter the delay before popup and the period of persistence.
Google for “tooltip timeout” will give you lots of information. One site which shows you how to modify this is kHSw: Changing the timeout of the tooltips (or disable them) - I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.
You can also download a tool from Microsoft called Windows XP Powertoys that lets you modify this IIRC.
Obviously the above assumes you’re using FF on a Windows XP platform. The tooltip stuff is common to Windows Vista too. If you are on a non-Microsoft platform then you’re on your own sorry

Well, I followed and rebooted and the value of balloonTip is now shown as 00000…F(15) and rebooted Windows NT and the balloons still live only five seconds.
They’re workin’ on it.

Hmm, using FF. i tried this tweak to the Registry and it showed (30) at the end, so thought that would do it. Rebooted, and and the balloon still only stays up about six seconds. Maybe only works for IE? Ah, well.
OK, after following your suggestion to Google, found there is a FF add-on, installed it, and it works fine. The balloon stays open as long as the cursor stays on the title.
Get it here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addons/versions/11233
I just d/l this and it works just as you said. Thanks **KG,**You’re a prince!
Well, I tried it and nothing happened. The line at the bottom showed a new address when I clicked on the “Add to Firefax” button, but clicking on it had no effect. Also clicking on the “About Mozilla Firefax” on the Help menu has no effect, although it did until I tried to get this “No tooltip timeout”. But it is version 5.0 for WinNT, I know from before.
