Lesbian Gingerbread - A Chocolatey and Nostalgic MMP

First iz me?

ETA: Indeed.

What to do for dinner . . .

Three pages?

What the eff day is it?!

Sadly only Monday. sigh

Wide Sargasso Sea makes me want to throw things just by being itself. Talk about your angst…

Nice glasses. I’m waiting for my tax refund so I can get some new ones. These I’ve had for about 10 years and they’re slowly chipping away. I envy people who can break their glasses and wait to get a new pair. Spaz = legally half blind without vision correction.

Rosie, love the instant Seder! Can Gentiles come and slouch at the table with the instant variety?

We had to kill a bird tonight here at the Casa de Tres Roommates. I went outside to throw some old peanuts out for the squirrels. There was a black bird flipping around in the bushes. I didn’t know what was going on until I saw it land on its back, and then I knew something was wrong. I tossed the nuts, ran inside and got Complicated Roommate (he’s not afraid to touch birds. I am.) We surrounded the bird and it took off over the fence and fell in the road. A car went over it–not “thump-thump” over, but over. When we got to the road we thought it was dead. Complicated Roommate picked it up and was checking to see how it was hurt and I ran in to get my shoes and keys to rush it to the vet. Didn’t need to bother–it was going into shock and bleeding internally. Complicated Roommate had to snap its neck. :frowning: It was buried in the backyard in a hole Zeldadog had dug. Memorials can be sent to The Birdfeeder @ nearest location to you.

Yuck. Wringing bird’s necks. Like that one book, Wringer. Ugh (good on you guys for putting it out of its misery, though).
I forgot why I came in here. Damn. Oh, well-Wild Sargasso Sea did nothing for me–it was a huge yawnfest. I’m funny about literature: as well as great, I think it needs to be well, readable and interesting. Odd, I know.

I can never remember if we are to underline books or do the italics thing. <shrugs>

I can’t my Mac to umlaut stuff. wah. Try again. uu --I don’t think that’s an umlaut. Will know when post. See? control + u is not an umlaut for moi. uü–AHA! I have to do alt/option and then the letter. Grüsse Gott! (no idea what that means anymore)

Dentist tomorrow, then LAST DAY AT THE LIBRARY.

Drive-by-posting while doing the last-minute-tax-preparation-thing. I just simply can’t let a thread go by with a reference to both lesbians and baked goods without contributing.

Speaking as someone who spent 2 years of college in the deepest depths of denial about being a) queer and b) in love with my housemate and best friend with which I was always joined at the hip…all I can say is that feigning innocence is just the sort of thing that I used to do back then, with a little voice in the back of my head whispering “Liar, liar, pants on fire!”.

Just sayin’…

::drive-by::

10 p.m. and still working. :frowning:

Oh my gosh, my golly…we ARE chatty today.

Welcome new peoples. Hope life starts going more smoothly, nd.

::Waves at Mork::

Wanted to mention another option for discussing poetry. The Constant Reader group on GoodReads has Poetry Discussion. Some of it might be more formal than you’re looking for. You could also ask for a poetry discussion folder to be set up in the SDMB group. Or you could do it here… I’m interested too.

I always create umlauts using the Character Palette on my iBook. There’s a little flag icon in the upper right hand corner (to the left of the day and time). If you click on it, then click on Show Character Palette, there are three possibilities. I’ve favorited accented and umlauted letters from the Latin set under European Scripts, so I have a short list that I always insert from. (You save them as favorites using the little wheel dealie in the lower left hand corner.) I like that you can keep it open while you’re typing and insert stuff as you need it.

I was at work by 7 (very unlike me) and got lots done and then came home and did laundry and then went to church for a special program and have been home for about an hour and a 1/2.

I’m tired and need to fall asleep, but am, of course a bit too awake for that. I have social obligations the next three evenings in a row. Why can’t fun things spread themselves out over longer times…?

Hugs to all I’ve missed…

GT

Yay me! Oh, and yay Papa Tigs – he dug out the broker’s statement that had all the info I needed. So I got the return done right after Jeopardy! and had it filed before Antiques Roadshow was over. Yay! I really prefer doing my own taxes; it was always quick and easy till Papa Tigs started getting stock options and exercising them and bartering them and selling them and suchlike. But true to its word, the TurboTax upgrade that promised to make the stock stuff easy really did. This was the most painless return I’ve done in years! And we only owe a bit; we always prefer to owe a bit rather than give the gummint the use of our money for free all year. So everyone’s happy. Or as happy as one can be after filing taxes, that is.

Cute glasses, Haze! Of course, cuter girl. I’ll tell you, if I didn’t (a) feel like I was cradle-robbing and (b) like boys better than girls, I’d be quite happy to come help you make lesbian gingerbread.

Why do I feel so tired? Oh, I know – stress from the 'puter hassles, and even more stress plus concentration and aggravation (just on general principle more than anything else this year) from taxes.

And speaking of taxes: You all do realize you have to file your taxes, or at least file for an extension, in order to get your “economic stimulus” rebate this year, don’t you? Cause you do. Which, I will admit, is one way to get some people to file on time who might not otherwise…

Definitely time to go do something stress-free. Like actually <gasp!> getting a little work done. The client (the Smithsonian Archives of American Art) would probably appreciate it. Not that they seem to be in any hurry with all these interviews we’ve been transcribing for them (they send them over in batches of 10 or so every week) – the first one I did weeks ago is still marked in their collection index as “being transcribed.” I keep wishing one of them would get posted so I could show you all my superior work! Oh well, maybe by 2009. The Smithsonian is part of the gummint, after all, and we know how much they like to hurry.

Nighty-night, everyone!

Argh, I feel terrible–my face is so swollen I look like some freakish mutant and I’m in a ton o’pain. I made the dire mistake of trying to find a clinic for low income uninsured persons (I mean really, how much more low income can you get than living on unemployment?) and got very depressed. So I went web searching and found out that apparently it’s possible to get fish antibiotics again so now I have 500 mg amoxicillin on the way, yay! It can be universal health care tiem now plz? So if any helpful Canadian types (paging Mindfield!) would like to mail me some of those nice OTC codeine tabs and/or the weird infection paint I’d bless your name forever as well as paying for them…

On the good side, my son called me last night all in a swivet to tell me that he’s proposed to his girlfriend and she accepted! It’s so nice to have him settling down, he’s never had a really serious girlfriend until the current one came along and we were worried he might be a Confirmed Bachelor (he’s thirty.) I love his fiancee, she’s so good for him, and her 3 year old daughter is a joy and a treat and I’m very happy to have them both in the family.

Rigs, wanna sit on the front stoop and bewail our ailments? I think we have to wear scarves and baggy skirts but what the hey–free kvetching is always a deal!

Haze, you look just as ridiculously cute in glasses as without. Stop it at once!

Evening all! Monday is the night I watch TV–New Amsterdam on Fox at 9 PM, then Medium at 10 PM. It was the end of the short season for NA tonight, I’m hoping that Fox will pick it up for the fall. crosses fingers

One tiny correction to my recipe: the Tandoori stuff that I called sauce is really a -paste-. LOL I couldn’t think of the word paste when I was typing that recipe up earlier!

It’s nearly Tuesday. Oh yeah, and very nice glasses, Haze!

Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrr!

If you’re buyin’!

Glad everyone approves of the glasses. I can wear them without shame now.

Congrats for daugher-in-law-to-be, Aleq! Your picture made me giggle - I hope my future mother-in-law is as cool as you are.

If the weather’s nice, I’ll stop by the Edward Hopper exhibit tomorrow at the art institute. Weather, please be nice.

Haze, your OPs sure do bring in a lot of newbies to the MMP. ~Hi new people!~

CP, cool pants cookies. I read something about them last week. But I might have missed the part about what they’re for. Are there matching skirts cookies? Or at least matching shirt cookies? :stuck_out_tongue:

Mork, nice to read you here again. Wow, money for your blog! Cool!

Lunch, where are you going on vacation? Have a good one!

~sulking because **gt **hasn’t waved to me in a long time~

Speaking of that, ~waving~ to doggio from last week.

Home, spent the day sorting pasta.

Haze, neat glasses.

How to reply to an MMP like that? I think the story would be far less entertaining if the two main characters were men, anyway. Sexual near misses and innuendo between men just is not very erotic.

I filled out my tax returns tonight. Half a day early…nice! I got a decent refund coming to me, too.

Looks like the Mayfest (Chicago German-themed street festival in Lincoln Sqr) is the same Saturday as the proposed Chidope. Unless that breaks early AND the weather is awesome, it appears I’ll not make it to the Mayfest.

I’m already up way too late. Night, all.

Morning all! Wow, quiet morning!

Smartie, congrats on soon becoming a MIL and a step-Gramma!

rigs, do you maybe think your eye rash could be shingles? Sounds like when my Dad had it a few years back - nasty! Speaking of which, HRH avoided the chickenpox outbreak that went round a few weeks ago - maybe next year?

Haze, nice glasses. They make you look like a sexy librarian!

MamaTigs, the best thing about living where I live is (touch wood) no tax. No income tax = no tax returns! It was the one thing I hated doing at home and I always used to get my local H&R Block consultant or CPA to do it for me, specially seeing as how the CPA fees become a tax deduction next time around! I sure don’t miss giving a chunk of my income to the tax man every month! :stuck_out_tongue:

jinglebell, I think swampy may disagree with you on the sexiness/eroticism of man-on-man innuendo!

Hey Mindy! We missed you! Don’t be a stranger, hear!

Speaking of strangers, anyone heard from Sean lately? And what happened to welby?

HRH is (finally) down for her morning nap. She is now at the “I’m so tired. No, I don’t wanna sleep. Don’t make me sleep! WAAAAAAAAAAA…zzzzzzz” stage. Sigh! Okay, off to clean the kitchen and make productive use of not having a toddler clinging to my leg every time I turn around!

I feel like I could puke. But unlike** Smarty ** I won’t post a picture.

Roo, and **Mama Tigs ** (I think it was Mama Tigs), the pink pants cookies were made for a client that is a drug rep who sells an incontinence drug. We did not have a cookie cutter, exactly. We formed a metal cutter into a rectangle, cut out that shape, then used a long, skinny cookie cutter to cut out the area between the legs. Then <snerk> we had to make sure that the legs were nicely spread apart or else they baked right back together.

We have a truly insane day today. I hope that I feel better quickly today or else I won’t be much help. And, to add insult to injury, the lunch I’m delivering is 65 miles away and it’s only for 12 people. And it’s the lowest priced item on the menu.

Morning all and Happy Tuesday. Up and caffeinating here.

MBG, I thought your post from Bear to the kittehs back in the shelter was awfully cute! Nice to see pics of ole Cuervo as a kitten too.

I never can remember what all I want to say, especially first thing in the morning, only partially caffeinated. :stuck_out_tongue: At any rate, hugs and prayers to those who need them. And continued welcomes to all new mumpers and returning ones as well.

Dotty, whoever gave you the suggestions wrt diaper changing did good. Hope the suggestions are helpful! (And apologies for forgetting who that was … was it you, Rigs?!)

Later gators!
