There’s plenty of porn for gay men - man on man, solo man, etc; and there’s plenty of porn for straight men - man on woman, woman solo, “lesbian” woman on woman; and most straight women watch straight porn or “erotica”.
Is there a market for porn aimed directly at lesbian women?
And do a lot of straight women enjoy watching man on man porn like men enjoy woman on woman?
There’s basically two subsections of lesbian porn. The majority of movies depicting women having sex with other women is aimed at a heterosexual male audience. These movies generally feature the same actresses that appear in heterosexual porn (virtually all heterosexual porn movies also feature lesbian sex scenes).
There is also a smaller genre of women on women films supposedly made for a lesbian audience. These films tend to feature actresses who look more “butch” (for lack of a better word).
Obviously there’s some audience overlap. Some heterosexual men probably enjoy watching “butch” lesbians and some lesbians probably enjoy watching “lipstick” lesbians.
Entering Lesbian erotica into Amazon’s search box brings up 1486 hits, including Best Lesbian Erotica 2004. So I 'd say there’s a huge print market aimed at lesbian women.
Whether there is as large a visual market, I can’t say.
There’s a magazine I buy every so often called “On our Backs,” which purports to be the only lesbian sex mag made for lesbians and by lesbians. I’m a straight guy, but I buy it anyway since the women tend to look like real women, not the shaved and photoshopped mannequins you find in most hetero magazines. Plus, I’m one of those aforementioned straight guys who likes butch looking women, and good lucking finding any of them in Hustler. Okay, I also buy it because chick-on-chick action is totally hot, but I like to pretend that I’m more enlightened than that.
However, to give you an idea about how small the market is, the supposed best selling lesbian girly mag only sells enough copies to warrant one black and white issue every two months. Not much demand for this sort of thing in the lesbian community, apparently.
You might be surprised at how many watch gay male porn. Heck, I know a lesbian who owns more gay porn than I do. The simple fact is that most porn is marketed towards men regardless of their sexual orientation, so straight porn tends to have (theoretically) attractive females and not so attractive men.

We market a lot of our stuff to the lesbian market. There’s a niche online seller that deals with our stuff, aimed squarely at true lesbians. Though naturally there’s a lot of crossover in the actual audience with straight males and (probably) couples.
I know some married, middle-aged straight women who are very, very fond of Japanese yaoi – gay porn featuring beautiful young men, generally of a slender build – think Vampire Hunter D with a boyfriend. They love their hubbies and boyfriends, but when they want to to tank up on a little free-floating libido juice, yaoi is the thing for them.
I do not pretend to understand this.
A film called “Home Cookin”. You can find it at lezlovevideo dot com (NOT A WORK SAFE SITE). Made by a lesbian-owned film company, I read that all of the actresses are actual lesbians, or at least bisexual.
It’s high on my to-buy list…
