I’m so sorry! There is no gator in the photos - it’s a picture of where he was. Whenever we saw him moving, we were in the water and away from the camera. Sorry for the confusion! (I named that picture badly…)
Ah, that explains why I couldn’t find Mr. Gator. Whew, I thought I was losing it!
Well, I got up this morning to be greeted by this headline:
And find out the guy was snorkeling.
And it was a 12 foot alligator.
And then I come in here, and you say, brightly, “Hey, guess what! On my vacation, we were, like, snorkeling? And this guy said to us, like, 'Yo, there’s like a 10 foot alligator in there?”
So you better believe I took a second look at your OP:
“Daytona Beach.”
Ah.
I looked at that pic of you snorkeling, and I went, “Jigsaw picture!”
Isn’t it? Seriously.
Sounds like you had an awesome vacation, Rebo! I’ll look at the pictures when I’m not at work.
I know it’s Monday because none of the copiers are working properly.
Morning, y’all. That was a great account of your trip, Rebo.
Bobbio every time you come up with a recount of your EMTing, I’m amazed that an old guy like you can keep up the pace.
This looks to be a busy week here for me. The ASNE show is in town this week (well, over in Virginia Beach. Near enough to make no difference.) Plus I have to get new glasses, a haircut, and drop the car off for a recall notice and oil change.
Good morning everyone! Nice OP rebo, I’ll look at the pictures in a bit, I am still waking up, and it has already been a monday with skiffman and The Son.
First of all, prayers for the Mom’s going out, I would be grateful if the same could be done for my Mom. I think I have mentioned, but maybe not, that she is finishing testing for a liver transplant.
boofae I hope that you heal quickly and without side effects. I had an abscessed sinus which I let go for far too long, and it ended up draining out of my left eye. It was beyond disgusting, and my eye was so sensitive to light that I spent an entire weekend with a cold dam cloth over my eyes, essentially blind, and it was one of the most frustrating and painful experiences I have ever had, I empathize with you.
Yesterday was a beautiful day on The Rock, skiffman went off on a goat hunt and came home very late. He was the extra guy on the trip, in case of trouble and to help pack out the meat. The skipper’s daughter was drawn for a goat ticket, she’s the same age as our #3, which is 16 years old. She has already gotten her share of deer, while our daughter just has no interest in hunting. That elk rack is ginormous Mama Tigs, when skiffman got his elk last year the rack broke, so no trophy for him. Personally, my thoughts on seeing that photo were “That’s gonna be a huge amount of tough old bull meat”! We are still eating elk, and it’s pretty chewy if it isn’t cooked right.
Happy birthday to Mr. Taters! I hope that he has as much fun with his guitar as The Son is. He has only had 5 or 6 lessons, and he is picking it up so fast it’s amazing. I played guitar for years and never was as good as he is already. He told me that it’s the only thing that has ever been more important to him than video games. YAY
snow bunny driving in snow/ice isn’t really difficult once you get past the fear. Slow and careful is the trick, and watching for the idiots around you is the most important part. You’ll do fine, I am sure. Hey, do you ever get pomeranians at your shop?
As for crab, we just cleaned out the chest freezer in order to make room for this year’s protein sources, and skiffman found three red crab clusters! Yay! They will be eaten sometime during the week, and three will make probably two meals for #3 and I, skiffman and The Son do not care for crab…more for us girls!
VB you are my hero as well, too many people just don’t want to get involved with other people’s troubles.
li-li that is a pretty kitty, not very friendly looking however! Oh, and baby hiccups are a wondrous thing at first, they become a bit annoying when you get to the point where you want the baby out already. When they are out and get the hiccups it’s kinda funny though!
Speaking of babies, my daughter and granddaughter will be here on Friday, weather permitting. I am looking forward to spending time with both of them, and to wearing out the batteries in my camera!
Well, I have a couple of chores to get to, I appreciated the little time in the sun I had yesterday before it hides again. Fall is here in force, and I am missing seasons beyond wet and frozen. Fall here is one week of gold and then it’s winter, thoughts of my home state are taking a prominent place in my mind. Perhaps I’ll move back when the kids graduate…
Here’s to a good week coming!
Well, if I didn’t do the fire and rescue stuff, y’all might find out how pathetically boring my life really is…
Morning (afternoon!) to you all. Nice OP Rebo.
I had nightshift last night. It’s great, I drive the last train at night then sit around for a few hours and then drive the first train of the morning. Let me repeat that for you. I get paid to sit on my ass and have fun. So, many computer games were played, biscuits eaten, coffee sipped, pages of my book read and short naps had. And since I’m having to endure this ‘hardship’ I get extra days off next week to make up for it. I like my job.
I do not like my laptop however. The touchpad has gone all screwy. And if I might pimp my own thread, I have a question about it over in GQ for all you techie types. HALP!
I’m a little sleepy still after my morning sleep so I’ll go look out some DVDs for tonight and then take another nap. Happy Monday all.
I’m sure they’re friendly. Anything that fluffy has to be friendly.
Right?
Ha! Two words for you li-li: Kodiak Bear. You have not seen cute and fluffy until you have seen new baby bear cubs. They’re not so friendly, and you don’t even wanna think about beautiful furry mama bear!
Hi ya kiddies. Rebo great Op and pictures. I want a sunny vacation!
Bobbio, my husband waits every Monday to hear what kind of trouble you’ve gotten into to over the weekend. He’s an old man now, so the young’uns get to the bottom of the pile before him. I’m glad you weren’t hurt. Likely, you were in more danger from the drunk than the bumpity bump.
Our week SUCKED! Hubby’s parents moved from a 3 bedroom house to an 1100 sq ft retirement apartment. Pop has some memory problems and an evil temper. He has a touch of OCD, so he gets really stressed when he can’t control the world.
We got there on Wednesday so we’d be ready to work bright and early for the actual move on Thursday.
We worked our asses to the bone, and it just wasn’t enough. The apartment was full to the brim by noon, and the house was only about 2/3 empty.
The turn over date was set for the 21st, but the new owners showed up and started moving in.
It seems they browbeat Pop until he agreed that they could.
We were supposed to take some stuff home. It was stuff they didn’t have room for, but wanted it to stay in the family. It wouldn’t all fit in the truck. Hubby had to work on Saturday, so I was going to do a combat turn around to get the rest. Unfortunately, Hubby forgot and took the truck to work.
I called everyone to let them know we’d be there on Sunday.
Hubby decided he wanted to make the trip alone. Big mistake. Pop was in a towering rage. He’d told the new owners they could have everything else in the house, even stuff that belonged to us, that we’d left the day before.
Hubby got into it with both Pop and the new owners. Pop called Hubby a thief for taking the things that he’d been told two days before to take. He said Hubby was stealing from the new owners!
They had no qualms about taking advantage of a confused old man.
While he was gone, his spoiled brat of a brother called to yell at me for taking the lawnmower that Pop had given Hubby two weeks before, but promised to bro last week too.
I was in tears when Hubby got home. I was ready to take everything back, so brat bro and new owners could have their pick.
I guess it upset me so much, because, when my son died, the landlord threw everything away without our consent. I have a few of his paintings, that’s it. His wife didn’t even get to keep her clothes.
I love my in-laws, I really do, but right now, I don’t care if I ever see any of them again.
Ya know something? I like having friends. Had a nice coffee (I had tea) with a girlfriend. We both agreed we need to do this regularly.
Off to write more policy. I can hardly stand the excitement.
Bleh. Stayed home today. Feel icky. I was feverish all night, now it feels like someone’s punching me in the stomach.
Nice OP, Rebo. Liked the pics & I bet Datona was a great change of pace from Houston.
VBob, What a tale, way to go!
Went to the Va. Came home. I’m toast.
HSM
Definitely. I found out after the fact that the old coot has A Terrible Communicable Disease spread by blood contact. Fortunately my gloves were intact and I never got any on me. Besides, I’m freshly immunized for the most common form…
Still,
picunurse–that is just awful. I am so sorry. I’d want to give everything back as well. (and nice new owners, taking advantage like that-people disgust me often).
picu and bobbio, sometimes it makes you wish humans had natural predators (well, besides ourselves).
That’s really awful, picu. It sounds like your FIL needs someone to handle his affairs, though – if he’s that non compos mentis, he shouldn’t be able to put himself or others in the kind of mess he’s created here. Although I think taking the new owners out behind the woodshed and giving them a few “gentle” reminders of why you should treat old, mentally failing people kindly…
I’ve had a pleasant afternoon. Took the Idiots out for a nice ride, to go pay the rental for snowbunny’s storage unit (the nice lady says hi to you, snowbunny; she came out to greet the Idiots, so of course Isaac decided to bark at her, stoopid dog!), and then drove around through this insanely expensive golf course community near here trying to find a freecycler’s house to pick up a lamp. It’s one of those lamps with a magnifying lens in the middle, with a ring light around it. It is amazing, still in a lot of the the original plastic, clearly never been used! And it’s big – I was hoping for a lens about 4-5" across, but it’s like 8". I’m trying to figure out how best to set it up to accommodate my knitting now; it’ll be wonderful when I’m working on teensy stuff!
Now I’m back home recaffeinating and trying to tell myself to get some more work done. Problem is, I’m not under any deadline pressure and what I have isn’t very long, so I don’t feel any great rush. Especially since I’ll be doing more congressional [del]drivel[/del] work tomorrow, which usually entails a very late night. Which is fine this time since it’ll make up for much of my week off – yes, it pays that well. Congress pays for the best of everything, don’t you know?
ETA: May I say that I hate, hate, hate the made-up verb “operationalize”? Why do people insist on massacreing perfectly innocent nouns by turning them into awkward and unhappy verbs?
{{{picu}}} Sometimes people suck.
