The saga continues…
Hubby when to see brat brother. We decided to keep the peace by offering to share the mower. That worked out fine.
While they were together, Pop called Bro, and ripped him a new one!
Now understand, Bro is a lazy git, but he’s pretty useless anyway. He has a pacemaker, he’s had a couple open heart surgeries, and he can barely walk because he has gout. He couldn’t help with the move, even if it crossed his mind.
Pop said that none of his sons love him, or they would be doing this move for him. Bro was in tears by the end of the call, so was Hubby.
Hubby has to work tomorrow, but I guess we’ll go back over on Wednesday, and see what we can do to ease the stress. I’m afraid it’s going to kill the poor old guy.
Speaking of dental work, I have to go the orthodontist tomorrow to get my braces tightened and have posts put on, which means I have to have that disgusting glue in my mouth.
This is me not envying you.
Oh, ick. I still remember the taste of that glue, and I had braces back in the late 1980’s. Ewwwwwww!

SQUEE! AGAIN!–that kitty is tres adorable. And I wish I were that relaxed. I thought Frankenfinger was the name for another cat (!). It looks ok.
Sorry (?) to hear about the wisdom teeth. I have no wisdom teeth, nor does my daughter. Of course this means that we are further up the evolutionary ladder than y’all primitive types. Drink lots of water-you don’t want dry sockets!
I’m wasting time again online. I’m very good at that.
Where is hazelnutcoffee? We want date, and new roommate stories! (and student stories).
It’s supposed to get hot here again tomorrow. boo, hiss.
Hullo everyone.
picu, that is awful. It’s sad to see our parents go downhill like that, and it’s what’s worse is the toll it takes on family. The new owners are scum.
I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed at once, just before I turned eighteen. They had to take them out in pieces. It was awful. I couldn’t have gas (insurance didn’t cover it), and, the novacaine wasn’t taking.
Happy b-day tarragon! I can retire in 13 years with 37 years of service (age 56). However, I’m not sure that I’ll be able to. Hopefully, I can. I’m more than ready now.
That was a very nice OP, with nice pictures. It sounds like you had a lot fun, Rebo.
Bobbio, wow, just wow! I don’t know if I could do what you do. I’m glad none of you were hurt in your accident. I hope the ticket gets dismissed as well.
I spent most of today in a great deal of pain. In fact, by 1600 hours, I’d had enough and told my boss I needed to go. I was wearing shoes that I’ve worn twice before with no problem, but today, aaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiii, the pain was unbearable. I have little spurs on the sides of my feet and today those shoes were just unbearable. I even walked down to the shopette and bought some moleskin in hopes of obtaining relief, but if anything, it made it worse. I didn’t dare take them off in the office because I was afraid I’d never get them back on. It’s a loooooooooong walk to the parking lot from my office. Once I’d hobbled to my car, I took my shoes off and drove home in my bare feet.
The pain was so bad I was breaking out in a sweat and was shaking. One of my co-workers and I were working a big project and I had to tell her that I couldn’t even concentrate and that we’d pick it up tomorrow. I felt really stupid because my stooooooopid shoes were preventing me from working properly. God, I feel like an idiot.
These shoes shouldn’t have given my any problem. I bought specifically because I had the same pair before, but the heel cap wore to the point that it was falling off. I bought the same size and everything. I won’t be wearing them again any time soon, if at all. In the meantime, I need to find new shoes, again. I wear them with some of my slacks. They’re just penny loafer type of shoes, with a short, wide heel in the back. I can’t find anything like them in them in black. I’ve found similar shoes in brown, but I have black slacks and gray slacks, so the brown shoes just won’t do.
kai, I’m keeping your mother in my thoughts.
Mr. Taters is out in the great room again plunking away on his guitar. My daughter is upstairs plunking away on her guitar. I’m glad they’re putting them to use.
I guess I should get some relaxing in now. I’ve only been home for about an hour, because when I first came home, I changed clothes and headed off to two shoe stores to find replacement shoes. I was unsuccessful in my quest. Sigh…
Dinner tonight was Papa Murphy’s Taco pizza. It was actually pretty good.
While Ladybug does have a website, it’s actually a quilt shop in Suffolk. I don’t know how many quilt shops there might be in Suffolk, so that’s why I asked if VWife might have gone there to get her quilting supplies.
Obligatory drunken post - Hi everyone!
Today was a vacation day as is tomorrow - WHoohoo!!!
Went to movies this afternoon then met friends for beers then came home drank wine and made dinner which was sweet potatoes and flank steak pin wheels.
Hubby is asleep and I am heading that way…lots of vino was ingested
Toodles!
Morning all. Wow, so much crammed into the first 2 pages!
{{{picu}}} Sounds like you are having a really rough time with FiL. Prayers going out to you and yours, picu.
Taters, maybe you could try wearing your shoes around the house with wet socks for a while. I have found with a few uncomfortable pairs of shoes that the wet socks help the leather stretch (only do this with wool socks, otherwise the fabric can cause worse blisters than the shoes!). Otherwise, you may find it useful to invest in a pair of shoe stretchers.
Bbbobbio, props to you for doing a great job. I hope they cancel your ticket! And that Frankenfinger looks like one of those joke fingers you buy in novelty stores! Yech! (sorry!!!)
Wisdom teeth - I had all mine out (all 3 of them - go figure) under general anaesthetic in one hit - three cheers for really good health insurance!!! I woke up in the recovery room (with an ice pack wrapped around my face) crying for my Mummy - I was 22 years old!!!
Ramadan (or all expats like to call it, Ramadamadingdong) - every year, I feel like I fight a losing battle trying to cook/make/create food that is “Ramadan-appropriate”. Apparently, anything with eggs or cream is not good for iftar - too heavy for the fasting stomach or some such. But it is okay to fill your gob with cheese-filled deep-fried samosas and spring rolls, beef and vegetable stew bulked out with arabic bread and lashings of sugar, lamb machboos (kind of like pilaf with meat), lasagna with excessive amounts of bechamel sauce and cheese, and deep-fried pastries soaked in sugar syrup! It makes me feel ill just thinking about it!
Anyhoo, yesterday I decided to skip the whole mine-field of main courses and made lemon syrup pound cake instead. Surprise - it was a hit! Talk about simple too - take one packet of Betty Crocker Pound Cake mix and bake according to instructions. In a small saucepan, mix 1/2 cup of sugar, 1/4 cup of lemon juice, 1/4 cup of water and the zest of 1 lemon, then simmer gently until the liquid has reduced to a syrup. Using a skewer, poke holes all over the cooled cake (right through), then brush the warm syrup all over. Repeat several times for maximum soakage (new word!). If you want a really wet, sticky cake, pour the syrup directly over the cake. Finally, decorate the top of the cake with some of zest from the syrup. It was so simple and yet sooooo yummy! The only thing that bugs me is that any leftovers stay at MIL’s house. All my effort and they get all the leftovers!
Weellll, time is passing and HRH is bound to wake up from her morning nap soon, so I better set to and make myself some breakfast, then get some housework done.
Darn - missed the edit window. Roo, I watched Ray on TV the other night and this one has been stuck in my head ever since:
[Ray Charles]Hit the road Jack and don’t you come back no more, no more, no more, no more.)
(Hit the road Jack and don’t you come back no more.)
What you say?
(Hit the road Jack and don’t you come back no more, no more, no more, no more.)
(Hit the road Jack and don’t you come back no more.)
Woah Woman, oh woman, don’t treat me so mean,
You’re the meanest old woman that I’ve ever seen.
I guess if you said so
I’d have to pack my things and go. (That’s right)[/Ray Charles]
Nighty-night! (oh, and good morning Nooner)
Happy Birthday, Tarragon!!
**Taters **-- we’re exactly the same age. If you tell me your birthday is Nov. 30, I’ll flip
Sorry about your shoes. Seems so stupid… but I can see how it could happen.
**Dotty **-- love that song, too. (Guess somebody has to appreciate it, since **Roo **seems to be AWOL this morning/night – “Good Night,” Roo, anyway.)
I’m about to get very busy coordinating all the last minute stuff for getting my mother on a flight home tomorrow afternoon (EDT). Yes, with the distances involved, now/ is "the last minute!
Y’all have a great day/evening/night!
Happy Birthday, Herbs!
Dotty, er. . .nice song, but you’re not trying to tell me something, are you? :dubious:
Hey Lunch, I’m right here, just waiting to see if you were going to badmouth me before I got in. Cautcha!!
Rebo, those were some awesome pictures. . so clear and beautiful. Thanks for sharing them.
~Waving~ good night to everyone else!
Meh, you call a 17-minute lag being “right here?”
And yeah, I guess you caught me… calling you an owl (or something similar)
'Night!
Sorry for the brain-fart:
Happy Birthday Tarra!!!
And Roo, no ulterior motive in posting that song. I don’t want you to leave. Alternatively, I could have posted Georgia on my Mind.
Nooner, fingers crossed you manage to get your mother home safe and sound!
This morning, I have come to a frightening realisation - something that may well blight the next 5+ years of my life! I HATE Barney! Several months ago this would not have caused any great ripples in my day-to-day existence, but now, Noor loves Barney - she lays in her bouncer and wriggles and giggles as they sing and carry on. She’s doing it right now and all I really want to do is reach into the TV and rip Barney’s ridiculous purple head off!!! ::sigh:: I think I need earplugs and a blindfold!
¡Feliz cumpleaños Tarragón!
{{{{{picu and picuhubby}}}}}
Oso Pantanoso, I’m glad you’re OK.
BoBBBio, please don’t break more ambulances.
My Indian coworker just forwarded me an email with a request for help. Since it was not sent following procedure, but specially because the original is in German with no translation, I don’t understand German (I used to but have forgotten it, it’s been 18 years since I took classes), and anyway they’re supposed to ask for help in English,
I sent it back to the original sender with a request for translation.
I’m evil, I know. But hopefully I’ll stop being evil sometime at the end of the month.
I was supposed to start training my replacement today but he’s not in. Haven’t met him yet.
No you won’t
You’ll just stop being evil in this particular place
And in this particular way. I’ll have to go to confession, but there really isn’t much point in doing so now…
