Let's kill the suspense-- American Idol 2/6--7

What song did Jake the Snake sing? He’s the guy that totally cussed out the cameras after.

San Antonio auditions are supposed to be shown tonight, 8pm EST. Gotta wait a couple hours. See you later.

I believe it was a Jake-the-Snake original.

Side note: What the crap, Idol people? I thought tomorrow’s episode was supposed to be “the best of the rest”? I’m done with crazy people. I don’t want to see a guy dressed like Alvin. … Or do I? At any rate, we’d better see some more people who make it through to the semifinals, because … I said so!

Also: that mini-Ruben guy (who is totally NOT a mini-Ruben)? HOTT. And I don’t know why.

I should have guessed the AI producers had a different meaning of “best” than I.

Wasn’t she gorgeous? The wrinkled-up nose reminded me of Shirley Temple. Or Diana Ross. It was distracting, but I was surprised that the judges were going to bounce a beautiful girl with a good voice because of facial expressions. I can’t wait to see her again.

I didn’t care for the blonde, the small town girl who thinks she was raised in the wrong place. “I’m a city girl at heart.” Maybe she is, but I never liked people who diss their roots.

Incredibly pretty. Wow!

Simon, quit fondling yourself.

And I’m glad Ryan stuck up for his pals, although his comment, “Two of those people are my friends” got a delayed “Bwah!” from me. Still, so many people do that: Randy’s a nobody, Simon’s a jerk, yadda yadda. Except they, y’know, have jobs, and the rejectees don’t. Ashton is a great example of why you shouldn’t do that.

And I am so glad they brought her back! Thing is, I agree with them about the facial expressions. She reminded me of the William Wegman video about the depressed guy with his face frozen permanently into a huge grin. But her voice was so outstanding, and she was so beautiful, and well-mannered, I figure sometimes one flaw is worth the risk.

And gee, there’s never been a cute blonde hick on the show before! Not even this season already! Wonder how that’ll go. Blaugh.

I didn’t even notice the face “habits” they were talking about.

Me either, but I was paying close attention to a bowl of ice cream the first time she sang. What bothered me more was that she didn’t always enunciate. I wish they’d try to train some of these kids to style less and enunciate more.

I noticed them, but the panel made it sound like she had a Tourette’s twitch or something, where I saw her “making contact” and feeling the lyrics. Two totally different things! I liked her, but she definitely needs work.

Country-Girl-With-Fashion-Sense is exactly who this competition looks for. I found her a bit uninteresting, but I bet she ends up in the final 5 at least.

I was thinking of who she reminded me of, and then I remembered: Paris Bennett, from last year. Kind of. There is a cute perkiness about her that I found very charming – and I mean that in the best possible way (normally I’m not a fan of perky). She was very polite and professional, she dresed appropriately, and while she did “make faces” when she sang, they were at least “lyrically correct,” if you know what I’m saying. I’m guessing she has a background in theater. I actually think the “bad habits” the judges were talking about will do her a whole lot of good if she makes it to Finals – she is very expressive without “making out with the camera” all the time, and that is going to look good from the cheap seats (i.e., my sofa). And she is SO PRETTY. As a hetero woman, I am not normally impressed by a pretty girl just because she is pretty, but yowza – Ashton is a stunner.

She is very pretty and it took me a few minutes to figure out who she looks like. She’s a chubby version of Christina Christian from season 1. She was gorgeous and was the one we all accused Simon of having a crush on.

I’m glad Simon brought her back. It was so weird that Paula and Randy said ‘no’, while Simon says ‘yes’. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen that before, but he knows what he’s doing and he must have seen something in her. But I also agree with **Dung Beetle ** in that she needs to enunciate more. She’s got a lot of potential.

Who didn’t love the “other door” montage? I was giggling through the whole thing, especially when they showed Simon and Paula doing the same thing.

On the radio this morning they said we won’t be seeing any more of the cousin who could sing- he was arrested on possession of narcotics, and is off the show. They also mentioned that Ashton was “in trouble with the law” because she poured sugar into her boyfriend’s gas tank, but they didn’t mention whether that meant she was off the show.

I loved the Amazing Grace cousin talking trash on his way out- Simon was in hysterics. That was great.

I didn’t mind Ashton’s wrinkly nose at all. I DID mind the mush-mouth on the second song, but I still liked her.

My husband, who was in the other room watching a show with gunfights and death and other guy stuff, came running out of the bedroom when the last guy who sang Cupid was on. He had us all singing along with him.

I am partial to soulful singers, myself. I thought he was great.

EXACTLY! Paula and Randy “Sometimes we make mistakes”??? But Simon can reverse it all. Unfortunately this will give fuel to the “Just give me one more chance” folks. :smack: I liked Ashton/Ashlynn a lot–beautiful and her voice sounded pretty.

I didn’t think Denise Richards, Jr., sang well at all, but as Simon said, that’s what a pop competition is for. Country girl with a city heart? And then she sings Faith Hill?? I see her taken advantage of by The City and in a porn career in a couple of years.

I forget who it was who was singing, but I felt very embarrassed for Paula and Randy laughing it up. It was someone who wasn’t over the top bad or goofy, and they showed no respect.

“Where’s he from? France? He needs to go back there! To British…”

Yes, it’s Ashlyn Carr http://blogs.baltimoresun.com/entertainment_tv_reality/2007/02/american_idol_s.html

OH, I forgot my laugh-out-loud moment.

The girl who was crying and saying she was sorry.

Paula: Honey, you don’t have to apologize.

Simon: Well, she does a little bit.
And “seriously, when you sing, how do people react?” “I’ve had people cry.” “That doesn’t surprise me a bit.”

I thought Faces Girl (Ashlyn) was doing her Louis Armstrong impression.

As posted above – any illusions we may have had as to who is really judging have just been dashed. Can you imagine if Simon & Paula said No, but Randy said “we may have made a mistake” that everyone would’ve dashed off to give the singer another chance? Not freakin’ likely.

Three Sam Cooke songs tonight. Weird. And 2 renditions of “A Change is Gonna Come” this season, but none of “Chain of Fools” which was last season’s fave.

It’s no doubt whose opinion carries the most weight, but don’t I remember one season where Paula threw a fit, insisting that a particular contestent be allowed to continue, and eventually convinced Randy and Simon to give him another chance? It was an episode after the initial auditions.

Or was it just a bad drug flashback?

And two of the Michael Buble version of the Nina Simone song. :smack:

As long as no one does R-E-S-P-E-C-T… I think I’ve just doomed tonight’s show.
