I see that Kopek is apparently still controlling your mind and body. If you start calling it VET (Voluntary Extra Time) instead of “bonus day,” I’ll know for sure!!
It’s stood for nearly half a century as-is. I sure don’t like the bevel boards being structural members though. I’ll be much happier when I get at least one piece of OSB up on the inside.
Happy Saturday!
It was a nice morning at the dog park, but the sun is coming out and it’s supposed to get hot.
We got a lot of rain last night.
I’m taking the morning off irk, that is starting to become a habit.
However, I have stuff that needs to be done soon and can’t be put off any longer - TAXES!
They are due Hump Day and if they are not done in time it will create problems with my health insurance, since my health insurance is through the state and based on my income.
One good thing about Doing Taxes Day is the amount of houseirk I get done trying to avoid doing taxes. If I had to do taxes everyday, my house wouldn’t just be clean, it would sparkle, with fresh paint, and polished floors. It’s amazing what you can think of to do to avoid doing taxes.
Another annoyance for the day is… my irk. According to the website, what I was supposed to be paid and what I was paid are two different numbers, off by about $600. I know I was paid the correct amount (the lesser of the two numbers), but they added the wrong number into my YTD total, and that needs to be fixed.
There is someone who comes to the park that is interested in adopting the puppy. I hope he gets the puppy so we can see him on a regular basis.
Glad I left before the doggie birthday party got into full swing yesterday. They had brought in a grill and everything, it was as much for the people as it was for the dogs. One of my friends was there and he said it was mostly family and friends of the birthday dog, about 8-10 pits running around having fun until the akita showed up and the fighting started. His dog is no dummy, he was hung out by the grill trying to steal the hotdogs and hamburgers.
Swampy, you and me both. I couldn’t build a dog house let alone a shed.
Good luck BooFae and Nellie
Doggio, you don’t need 40k and around here mortgage payments are way cheaper than rent. If I wanted to rent my house out I could get about twice the mortgage payment.
LOL Flytrap, but Echo is a she, not a he.
I need to add balloons to my shopping list.
Okay, enough fooling around. The IRS is waiting.
We drove by 3 houses this morning. One just went on the market today. It’s unoccupied, but they drew all the blinds, so we couldn’t peek inside, dammit. It’s in a nice neighborhood on a nice, private lot. Definitely worth looking at if it lasts the weekend.
The second one was a foreclosure. It was in a nice neighborhood on a terrible lot - the back yard was pretty much a ravine, and the front lawn would be a bastard to mow. Plus the trailer hitch on my car scraped the ground when I tried to go up the driveway. We knew from the photos that it’d need work, but the lot was a gigantic NOPE.
Third one had been listed at $175K and was dropped to $150K. It’s been on the market for a while, but it was close to the second place, so we decided to swing by. OMG!! There seems to be a foundation problem. The windows were ancient - definitely not insulated. And it was on a main road, so lots of traffic noise. And we knew from reading the listing that it didn’t have a/c. Another NOPE.
But it seems that houses pop up every day. So we shall see.
Meanwhile, I’m having a salad and a poke chop. I’ve got 2 loads of laundry hanging in the breeze and I think I’ll slip into some flip-flops after lunch and wash our cars. Unless I change my mind.
sari - sounds like you need to rent out your place and use the proceeds to buy another! Become a slumlord!
Assorted appendages crossed for the interview Boofae- how’s your Scots?
It’s still all sunny here, so I went out for a nice walk. Saw a lizard; not many of them round here. Most exciting thing that’s happened all week.
Due to Saint Patrick?
Bless his heart!
This ain’t Ireland and lizards aren’t sneks, so… no? Just due to rotten ol’ habitat loss.
Sorry, I get all those British places confused and I’m not up to speed on European reptiles.
Careful now, Ireland isn’t Britain. They’re rather definite about that, in fact And hang on… lizards anywhere aren’t sneks…
Roxy helped me wash the cars. Yeah, helped, that’s the ticket…
I managed to de-crud my Sonata and FCD’s HHR. They’re not perfect, but the worst of the dirt is gone. I was too hot and tired to do the windows. Maybe tomorrow?
SIL is working - what shall the rest of us have for supper?
I took a nap and got the piles of recycling to the recycling center. I even dropped off the old computer parts that were accumulating! Yay for clean(er) closets!
I’m so awake now I even managed to write this week’s Saturday Short. It’s one of my favorite type of shorts: How to Take a Bath. Apparently during WWII everyone forgot what baths were and had to be reminded over and over. And over. And over.
Sari, don’t forget to put balloons on the shopping list.
Ugh no, I dont want my place torn up.
However, moving sounds good to me sometimes.
I got my taxes done, I think.
Something doesn’t seem right so I’ve set them aside for a bit and I’ll look at them later.
It’s very frustrating, I think I don’t like TaxAct anymore.
Afternoon all. 93F outside so staying inside seems like a good decision. Dishwasher is at work and nappage is complete, so not much else planned. Ate early (about 4pm) so I might head out and treat myself to some ice cream this evening. We shall see.
Sari, hope taxes aren’t taxing your good humor…
Cats, when I was a kid, we always took baths at home instead of showers, so I still bathe now. Lucky I haven’t forgotten how too…
flytrap, don’t be making nut think poorly of us colonials…
FCM, keep looking. I must have looked at 15-20 properties when I moved down here, then finally found the perfect one and got my offer in immediately. Hope it works out for you and the kids.
Have a good evening all.
The Shed Report
The uprights in the shed frame had no crossmembers; only along the top and the bottom. And the left wall only had two studs between the ends. I cut up some 2x4s from the demolished roof and put crossmembers about four feet up. I cut a few inches off of the last piece of OSB and laid it lengthwise along the weather wall. Many nails later, the structure feels more rigid. You know what they say, ‘If it ain’t Stiff, it ain’t worth a fuck.’ I put crossmembers on the left wall too, and I think I’ll get another sheet of OSB in the not-to-distant future to stiffen that side as well.
My guy has not shown up yet, and now it’s lightly raining. I don’t know if he’ll come today.
Mrs. L.A. is off to Barlean’s in Blaine to procure a Dungeness crab ad some salmon chowder. She said, ‘If I buy a crab, will you kill it and cook it?’ Yes. Of course I will. And I don’t have to spend 30 clams on the crab.
We let Texas Roadhouse make supper. A bit pricey, but it was good. Now it’s time for chillage. I’ve already brought in the laundry and it’s all been put away. I need to load the dishwasher, but it’s not a big load. The rest of the day will be lazy. Yay!
MetalMouse - Daughter is more practical about the house hunt than her husband. He wants a place of their own NOW. I can understand that, but this is a decision that will affect a lot of years. The search will continue for a while.
We let the Miniature Emperor cater today. Several meals for each of us will result.
Zombie day today.
So, what were these guys drinking? Asking for a friend.
They’re all damn reptiles aren’t they? It stands to reason…
Howdy Y’all! We had a nice time out at the cee-mint pond today. I really like my new float. I would show y’all a picture of it, but I have no idea how to insert a link. I suppose someday I should learn how to do stuff on this site. Anywho, we lounged, we talked, we laughed, we ate, we drank, we made merry. A good time was had by all. JDD and Partner left around six and we’ve been just chillin’ ever since.
Sari I’ve always said I would never live in anything I built. I ain’t that brave.
Nuts my porch geckos, Liz and Ard, provide me with entertainment. Sometimes more entertainment that I want. I witnessed some hot lizard lovin’ on the back porch a few days ago.
Cat I shall shortly watch the Saturday Short. I do so find them to be entertainin’.
