glee, dude! Nice to see you! How you been? Won any big jackpots yet?
NAF can control your character if you’re out of touch, but please stay in touch. Your character is vital to the plot.

Ok, that means their faces are exposed right?
I should define a ring byrnie, as that may affect your decisions.
Ring is essentially leather with metal rings or studs sewn in. It is just about as effective as mail, and is second only to plate and scale armor. It is especially effective against edged an pointy weapons. Against blunt and fire/frost weapons? Fur is a better alternative.
A byrnie covers upper arms, shoulders, thorax, abs, hips, and groin.
A half helm covers the skull only, and does not protect the face and neck.
“So, I aim for the face.” Right?
Not really. You can aim at the upper body, middle, or lower. The uncertanties of combat make true aim a crap shoot. Aiming for upper body simply stacks the odds in favor of an upper body strike, but hitting a foot is still possible. Same (but reverse) for lower. Aiming at anything but middle carries a -10 penalty.
Yes, but see my next post 223.
Thanks glee! I am honored! I promise to try to play your character the way I think you would, and to only do so if absolutely necessary.
Interesting, I don’t suppose I remember any spells like fireball?
Nope.
And they aren’t spells. They are rituals.
So what’s the plan? Just keep running?
How far are we from the forest, how close on our tails are the critters?
If we can make it to the forest far enough ahead of them that we have a moment to regroup then I say, yes, keep running. Otherwise… I suppose I will use my endurance ritual on Antinor, Santo, and Glee and hotfoot it our of here myself. Then people can get to slinging mud.
Running and fighting both have possibly very bad consequences. Fighting gives us the opportunity to arm ourselves. It’s a tough call.
The forest is about 200 yards away, and the critters are about 50 yards behind you. Antinor’s pace is 9 hexes per round, doubled for running, or 30 yards per 10 seconds.
Rough estimate on the critters speed?
Roughly 9. If they want to catch you they’ll have to dice it out with you to see who has a faster 9.
I think it’s your call Antinor, you are the one who stands to lose the most by just runing.
Ok, let’s scrap my original plan and go with this. You all hotfoot it to the woods, find anywhere to hide, climb trees, find weapons, pray for speed for me, whatever you can do. I’ll get there as fast as I can and trust my survival skills to get me out of danger.
If we survive this, our next focus has GOT to be getting ourselves armed. All this running from every little thing has got to stop.
Agreed.
As soon as I find a place in the woods to stop, I will perform the endurance ritual to help Antinor out. Hopefully it won’t be too late.
NAF, Santo, and glee get to the woods in a fair amount of time. NAF times his ritual so he can touch Antinor when he passes by. Several fowlspawn try to catch up to Antinor, but can’t quite make it.
A man comes out from behind a tree and shoves a spear into the head of one of the creatures. The poor critter no longer has an intact skull.
COOL! But not time to celebrate or for introductions.
Before anything else we need to take care of these fowlspawn.
(thank Larani that worked!)
What is the reaction of the rest of the fowlspawn, are they still chasing us?
Are there any other new folk around or just the one man?
What weapon did the de-skulled critter carry?
There are more. The fowlspawn just haven’t had time to react yet.
Another man pops out with a sword and shield.
The first one taken down had an axe. He nails a sword-weilding critter in the knee. Critter fights back, and stabs the guy in the foot. The guy takes his 2nd shot, and hits the critter’s shield. They hit each other’s shields a couple more times, then the man hits the fowlspawn in the chest. It drops.
