Santo - Don’t know
Antinor - Can’t think of the place, but there’s a really great Inn with this bonnie lass Ingrid, there’s a maiden head over the bar, and they serve a mean weissbier.

Santo: “Hey, I know that place! I used to drink there, with… You!”

“Good ol’ dissociation; perhaps we should share some wine together this evening. Once we put ourselves into the same mindstate as we were in the Inn, we’re sure to remember more about each other and our own pasts.”

“An excellent idea my friend. But we shouldn’t overindulge, we still don’t really know where we are and what dangers may be near.”

pops open one of the wineskins and shares some with Santo

“Mmm, tasty! You’re right, we shouldn’t drink too much while we still have a walk in front of us under the sun. That’ll zap the energy right out of a guy. We still need to find a supply of food and water before too long, also… and hopefully some more wine.”

It is an excellent wine. Very tasty, and you all are pretty thirsty.

Some three hours have passed since you first woke up. The Sun is up.

As you indulge, Antinor, you look to the east, up the mountains. Something is circling above and to the east. It is a black shape. Perhaps an eagle, but with such a long neck? And a long tail? It’s hard to judge size against the sky. Maybe it’s an eagle, but maybe it is much, much, larger.

It doesn’t chirp like a bird. It lets out a screech that echos throughout the mountains. It sends a shiver up your spine.

(Santo, perhaps you should try to fashion a bow)

“Do you guys see that? I’ve got a bad feeling about whatever it is and have the feeling that we should get away from here. I’m thinking we should do what we can to arm ourselves…and find some shelter.”

Starts to head downhill, being careful to stay under shelter and keeping an eye out for anything of use.

(Ahh, great idea… I don’t remember if I’ve mentioned it, but this is my first time with this sort of thing… either you guys have done this before, or are pretty good at faking it. :p)

looks through the greenwood to find a suitable piece about my height and about as thick as my wrist

“This ought to make a fine bow, fellas. I can’t hit that creature while it’s flying, but it has to stop to rest at some point. It’ll take me a few hours to make it accurate enough to work, perhaps I can get a bit of help finding a suitable drawstring? I can use part of my tunic, but there’s surely something better lying around. I believe I can use some of that dropwood to make some arrows, and surely there’s obsidian or other type of amorphous rock around I can use for an arrowhead. I’ll need some feathers for fletching, but first things first. I don’t know if that bird is friend or foe, but we had better be able to protect ourselves in case it’s the latter.”

I can’t speak for the others, but I am at least 90% faking it. Don’t worry.

Building a decent bow (i.e. one that can shoot an arrow that will come close to hitting something) takes about 18 hours, and ideally requires a piece of wood that’s been cured for at least several months. It also requires tools. And once built, you’ll need arrows, of course.

The big bird (which appears scarily reptilian) might not wait for you to finish.

I’d add that avian creatures tend to have very keen eyesight. Fortunately, this thing is pretty far away and hasn’t made any aggressive moves.

Yet.

It’s cool. I’ll hold your hand through most of it. This scenario is newbie-friendly.

But here’s a hint: Big avian reptiles that let out blood-curdling shrieks don’t usually make good pets.

Hence my leading the team downhill, under cover and away from it.

Good move. Hauling ass saves lives.

Hauling ass, hauling ass. The makeshift shoes are doing only OK, and frequent stops are needed to repair them.

The weather is holding up nicely. Sunny and warm. As you descend the mountain, there is a noticeable change in vegetation.

Food must be eaten. You dip into the wine a bit to stave off thirst, but eventually find a stream. The water is quite quaffable.

The big bird still menaces you, but you are putting some distance between you and it.

You’ve managed about 5 leagues today. It’s getting dark, and black clouds are gathering in the west.

“We should probably find a good place to camp for the night and some food to supplement our supplies.”

scouts the area for a suitable camp site that will be covered. also looks for food.

Ok, let’s get some shelter. Something natural that we can put our backs against will probably be best.

Do you know how to tell safe plants from poison ones?

“I propose that we follow the stream tomorrow. If we’re going to find civilization, it’s going to be near a water source. It would also allow us to ration our wine, as we wouldn’t have to drink it all Tonight so we could fill our skins with water.”

“I certainly hope so.”

ponders the question of knowing safe from poisonous

Foraging skill is 28. Not that great. You rolled a 25. Great.

You stumbled onto a boiled lobster bush, which is right next to boiled potatoes with a side of slaw and a nice cold beer tree. And it has low hanging fruit.

(Seriously, all you found was berries and such, but enough to sate all of you. Well done!)

Is that just Antinor’s foraging skill? Maybe we should all forage a bit, see if we can’t imporve our skills. We may need them.

I agree with Santo, we should probably follow the river downstream tomorrow.
