Let's welcome ArchiveGuy to Philly! [Philly Dopefest Weds. Nov. 3rd]

ArchiveGuy is going to be in Philly the first week of November. Per what he said yonder, Wednesday evening (11/3) is best for him, or the weekend. For me, personally, the Weds. evening is better, so I’d like to do a dinner that evening – perhaps the weekend would be better for others, and I see no reason why y’all couldn’t set up a lunch then in addition.

Anyway, who’s around, and who’s up for something, and when?

Aw, nobody go out of their way for little ol’ me–I’ve been to Philly once before (saw and enjoyed the major stuff) and will be mostly busy with my conference, but would love a DopeFest (this would be my 1st) as well as any suggestions on what to do off-the-beaten path in your fine city.

I’m always up for meeting another Doper.

I usually work Thursday nights. I’ll be out of town from the tenth to the fifteenth.

But dinner Weds. the 3rd would work for you?

Dinner on Wednesday the third would be great!

I might be interested. It’s been years since I’ve gotten together with any dopers and I’m in the Philly area.

Twickster, I think we met once or twice.

My only difficulty would be getting to center city in time after work. I guess it would depend on what time dinner is.

I’m up for a late dinner just fine–I’ll be driving in from Levittown (where my sister lives) that day anyway, so if it’s something closer to 8pm or so, that’s AOK w/me.

That could work for me. For an 8PM dinner I could probably even get home from work, clean up, and take the R6 into CC avoiding the parking issues.

The 3rd sounds good. We should probably avoid the 2nd so there’s no interference for those of us who want to vote or are involved in election activities.

Yes, davidm, we have met – the 'Fest at California Pizza out at KoP that rockle came to, perhaps? That’s probably five years ago.

I work in Center City and usually knock off by 5:30 or 6:00, so would prefer that we not make it too late – how does 7 or 7:30 strike people?

Simulpost with davidm – the train formerly known as the R6? Sounds like we’ll be catching the same train home, anyway …

It’s no longer the R6? I haven’t worked downtown for several years so I haven’t kept up with any name changes.

They deleted all “R” designations (and color coding) a month or two ago – apparently people were confused by the fact that the “same” train went to two completely different places depending on which set of tracks you waited by in Center City. The R6 is now just the Norristown line, sometimes the Norristown/Manayunk line.

I could try for 7, but it might be 7:30.

It’s no longer the R6? Next thing you know they won’t call it the “Pennsylvania Railroad” anymore!

I can make it on the 3rd. Earlier rather than later would be better for me, too.

That sounds like an interesting conference, ArchiveGuy.

Seems like the guest of honor also prefers latish – can everyone do 7:30?

Next up: picking a restaurant. Thinking of places between City Hall and Rittenhouse Square, I come up with:

Italian Bistro, Broad and Walnut
Fado, 15th and Locust
Pietro’s, 18th and Walnut
Irish Pub, 20th and Chestnut

Those are just off the top of my head … anyone have a preference for one of those, or want to add something to the ballot?

Wednesdays are internship days, but I’m up for a weekend in November. 13th or 27th. Anyone game?

7:30 works for me. As far as restaurants, I’m good with anything that’s within walking distance of the Norristown Line or whatever the hell it’s called.

All the ones I listed are within walking distance of Suburban Station.

Any of them are good then. I’m not really familiar with any of them but I always like Italian.

Pietro’s then? Their pizza is excellent (mmm, white pizza with spinach and mushrooms …), and their other food is also very good.
