Liberal. Did they kick you out ?

oh. Nevermind then.

We’ve hosted Polycarp, his wife Skulldigger, and Triskadecamus at our home multiple times. In fact, Tris was last here for an extended weekend just about three or four weeks ago. Confirmation of our friendships can be found here and in other posts. You can also PM them, I suppose. And I think I recall speaking to TubaDiva by phone around Christmas time many years ago, when she needed help. Does that meet your requirements?

If Liberal did not exist, it would be necessary to invent him.

Oh he exists alright. Steven King couldn’t invent him.
That was an expression of endearment, liberal.

THAT is debatable. And I think a lot of people were majorly offended by his recent behavior. Thing is, like I said before, I want to like Liberal – he can be pretty cool at times. But when he’s in a manic stage, he’s absolutely insufferable, offering cryptic insults, and then later begging what he can do to be friends and make up.

And it goes around again and again. After awhile, it gets annoying. I don’t HATE the guy, but he annoys the living hell out of me. I don’t think he’s lying about his personal life (although he has been known to exaggerate and milk certain events), but he’s definitely lying about how he’s been treated, and trying to make a martyr out of himself at Domebo, and THAT is what pisses me off. Everyone was extremely cool with him over there, and he shat all over us. And for that, he can go fuck himself.
As for Seven, though, IF you say you have a good reason, quit trolling and just pony up, would you? Or just shut up.

Here’s something I’ve learned, from observing a certain relative of mine’s behavior.

Some people ‘self-check’ inwardly, and some people do it outwardly. By that I mean: whenever I am unsure of my ‘okayness’, I do a self-check internally. I check my behavior against what I know to be right & wrong. I’m an ‘inward’ person; I am able to self-correct based on my lifetime of learning social skills and my life experience.

The outwardly-oriented individual cannot do that. In order to perform ‘self-check’, they must consult with another person. This can give the apperance of being selfish; others often say “she think’s it’s all about her!”. It can be a never-ending stream of “Do I talk to loud?” “Did what I say hurt his feelings?” “Are you mad at me?” “Does everyone at my workplace hate me?” “Is everyone talking about me behind my back?” and so forth. The person is both unable to keep quiet about their fears and unable to quell those fears themselves. They can’t help it.

In the case of my relative, I know what’s going on and I’m committed to sticking with the relationship, so I endure this kind of stuff. In the case of others, sometimes it just takes too much energy to deal with the endlessly annoying things they say, so I opt out of dealing with them.

YMMV.

Do you see any evidence that he’s reflecting on his behavior, esp. insofar as it affects (annoys) others?

That’s hard for me to tell, twicks. It may be that it would be more easily seen in person rather than in typed comments.

My relative will reflect on this very very briefly - then flit off to something else. I think that her desire to keep from annoying us is outweighed by her need for assurances. I don’t know if that pertains to Lib, or if I’m even in the ballpark considering this scenario. Just thought I’d mention it as a possible explanation.

NinetyWt: Without quoting, I agree with what you say in post #186. I think that applies in real life. But on messageboards people have been known to create an entirely different persona - real world rules don’t necessarily apply.

In a case like Liberal I don’t believe he has all the medical conditions he claims to have (wasn’t he supposed to be dead now?). I think he uses these claims to build a sort of Liberal Defence Team. He maintains a low level posting style for a while, stirs up a bunch of shit, claims some mental/personal/medical problem caused it, and sits back and watches what happens.

If he says he has a mental issue and his medication was off during the shit stirring, then by golly, only a real asshole would call him out. The people who are getting played by him are the ones that come to his defence. He plays on this more by thanking them personally in each thread. If he doesn’t get the reaction or support he was expecting, he’ll claim he’s had enough and “leave”. A month or so later he comes back and pretends nothing ever happened. Rinse. Repeat.

If you remove the element of a mental or medical condition, it is simple, classic, message board troll behaviour.

Liberal
My 200 pesos: I think you’re a valuable member, and while we don’t always agree, you post with class and intelligence----something we could use a lot more of.

I agree with Shodan: DNFTT

Seven: he gives a plausible explanation to leander regarding the medical questions, in a domebo thread.

I’m not trying to appear to be taking either side here. Perhaps I should say, I’m trying to appear neutral. I will note that the older I get, the less willing I am to put up with shenanigans.

I’ll take your word for it. I guess I’ve not frequented those threads or the offense whooshed right by me.

Me, I don’t especially want to like - or dislike - Liberal. I think that he adds enough substance that I’m glad he’s back and I don’t quite get why he engenders such extreme reactions by so many. That’s all.

When I think of how long I lived before Liberal finally showed me the light of the Austrian School of Economics, and the crucial significance of Ludwig von Mises to Westerm Civilization…well, I shudder to think how long I might have continued to stumble in blindness! Now that he’s told me, of course, I hates Mises to pieces…

No, it wouldn’t.

Thank you, mangeorge.

Thanks for that. I’ve become convinced that all of life’s choices (including moral and ethical ones) are in fact aesthetically driven. I would like to develop some discussions about that, and I hope you will participate.

An update since then, if you’re interested. I had an accident. I bought my wife some hanging baskets for Mother’s Day. As I was hanging the last one, I fell off the porch. It wasn’t a backward or forward fall, but a fall straight down. The edge of the porch wood skinned my shin like a file rasp, or a planing tool. My meat hung from the wood like a slab of cured pork. I sprained my ankle as I hit the ground (about a three foot fall), and then fell backward, bruising myself in various places. I’m now almost immobile, which sucks because I’ve been losing weight. Thankfully, however, the Tranxene reduces my appetite. I’m taking an antibiotic that has two medicines: (1) an amoxicilin for internal bacteria, and a sulfate for external bacteria. My internist fears, of all things, a possible onset of flesh eating bacteria. I’m going to a dermatologist tomorrow for a second opinion.

Shock! Liberal pulls out another medical condition and more meds in the middle of all this.
Colour me surprised.

Seven, check your PMs.

Seven, are you really, really short?

Ha!

It was actually in the middle of someone commenting about my medical condition.

I’ll “colour” you stupid, childish, and cruel. Probably envious as well. You’re always like, “Wah! Liberal gets all this attention, and I don’t get any. I think I’ll make fun of his dead grandson and his other tragedies so people will be shocked enough to notice me.”

You try to be a snarker, but lack the skills of CarnalK and the class and dignity of leander. You don’t have the wit of Elucidator. And you have no command of the language beyond an American sixth-grader who can’t spell.

You’re a coward. You belong in Domebo’s Room 101.
