Holding your baby after a good milk-intoxicated burp.
Holding your 12-year old baby, in those rare moments he wants you to.
Holding someone else’s baby and getting a big baby grin for your troubles (a friend of mine once said, “It’s like I’ve been chosen; I’m the coolest person in the world right now!”)
Why yes, I do have a somewhat one-track mind these days!

A big bite of your first home-grown tomato of the season.
A snuck-up-on nuzzle on the neck from your sweetie.
Waking up without an alarm clock.
A perfect summer evening on the porch.
Spooning.
The cat bubbling over with happiness and excitement when you walk in the door at the end of the day.
A big, soft, enveloping comfy chair.
Sizzling hot, melted pizza cheese dripping off the slice as you take it off the plate.
A big bowl of Trix and icy cold milk.
A Saturday afternoon nap on the couch.
Playing hooky from work just because you need a break.
Cinnabons.
A summer thunderstorm at a time when you can go outside and splash in puddles rather than have to stay at your boring old desk.
Watching a movie you think will suck, but being completely moved by it in the end.
Acting like a total rock star when nobody’s around, complete with hairbrush/microphone.
Watching the sunrise, the dawn of a new day.
Watching the sunset, the end of a new day and knowing there’s another one coming.
Having a puppy lick your chin before settling into your lap and falling asleep.
Walking in a summer rainstorm. Without an umbrella.
A mug of hot chocolate when you’re feeling chilled. Especially right after a night dive.
Pulling the weeds out of an herb garden. Every time your hand brushes against something the scents waft up to your nose.
Snuggling with your 3 year old for a nap.
Fresh paint on the walls.
Wind rushing across your skin
Stars in a cloudless sky, far from the city.
The first time a kitten leaves mama’s side, and wobbling on tiny kitten paws, comes out to investigate the world.
The smell of freshly-baked yeast rolls.
The smell of fresh cut grass
The smell of fresh baked bread
The “good night babydoll” kiss on my shoulder
Walking around downtown, taking in all the scents and sounds and sights, letting everything swirl around me.
Sitting on the dock and watching the sun rise.
Curling up on the couch with the paper early in the morning.
A long, hot shower after working out.
Waking up to a cold, gray, rainy, blustery winter morning… and the realization that it’s Saturday, you have nothing on the schedule for the morning, and you can snuggle with your sweetie under the covers, nice and toasty warm, only half-awake and utterly content.
A great cup of coffee. A simpler cup, for a simpler America. Country fresh, like the morning after a rainstorm. Special, like an Arizona sunrise or a juniper wet with dew. A light rain in the middle of a dusty afternoon or a hug from your dear old aunt. Like an old sweater that keeps getting warmer with age. It’s subtle and mild. Mild, like that first splash of sun on an April morning. This coffee is coffee the way it should be.
Fresh chocolate chip cookies.

Hearing “I love you, Daddy.”
A good nap.
Doing a good job and hearing, “Thanks for your help.”
Homemade peach ice cream.
A warm cat purring in your lap.
Having your husband-of-many-years’ face still light up when he sees you.
Your 20-something daughter coming to realize you’re pretty cool, after all.
A good umbrella.
This message board.
Looking up at the night sky with no light nearby to cloud the deep darkness.
Extra points if you’re lying on the deck of a sailboat.
The first real rainstorm after a hot dry summer.
Hearing the clatter of feet as grandchildren rush for the door when they hear your "hello?"s.
A yard full of good friends, a grill, and good stuff to put on it.
