Like a Virgin -- The Noob MMP

I whupped my own ass this morning. I went to a local state park to ride a trail that was recommended to me. Seven and a half miles? Piece o’ cake said I, for I can do that much on the road in my sleep.

The joke was on me. Said trail was challenging if you walked it, and I rode. It took me two hours to get around the lake, and I was drenched and puffing when I was done. I also think I hate the tree roots more than the skeeters.

To finish, forget tomorrow, I’m sore now. Same time next week…?..

Back from Sam’s Clib with loads of meat and fish and shrimps and chicken…now we are getting ready to vac pack everything!

I have also changed the bedsheets and folded a massive pile of laundry and put it away. mr ems has a brisket on the grill for supper tonight that has been going low and slow since about 8.30 this morning. Yum!

I killded the thread. ETA: thanks MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM for posting first…

It has begun. I’m making and canning hot sauce and salsa today. Just put my jars in the dishmasher to sanitize, so I have a little bit of downtime. I’ll prep and grind my metric buttload of homegrown cayenne peppers first, then start the tomatoes for the salsa.

I still hurt from that bike ride. It’s all in my arms, shoulders, and neck. I must be a masochist.

I quit - for today, anyway. I put a second coat of white paint over the green that shone thru (3rd coat will be required) then went back over the grey that daughter did yesterday and caught the spots that she missed, so that’s done. **FCD **has been fighting with my studio sink plumbing all freekin’ day, but he thinks he’s finally got everything he needs - after 1 trek to Lowe’s and 2 to TruValue. The faucet is installed and working, and he’s about to finish with the drain. Then he’ll quit.

Last night, I built a half-recipe of peach french toast casserole that we had for breakfast. Like a dummy, I put it in a pan that was slightly too small. Some of the juices bubbled out and my oven is now a disaster, and it’s too hot out to run the self-clean. Tomorrow, I’ll attempt to chip some of the charred mess out. ugh.

I finished one afghan last night and started another. I’ll be afghaning after I read my comics and Dear Abby.

And I think I figured out why the tops of my feets hurt so bad. I think I was tying my shoes too tightly to begin with, then as I spent all day standing and walking and climbing and such, my tootsies swelled and made the shoes even tighter. But today, I loosened them up a bit, and the pain is much less. DUH!!

We’re supposed to get rain this afternoon and evening - I need to bring a few things inside that I don’t want to get wet, since it’s starting to cloud over a bit. So I guess I didn’t quit after all…

We had a great time yesterday with our friends; but we always have a great time with these people.

My Dad said he would call me today about coming over to visit us, but I haven’t heard from him yet. He has good and bad days with regard to his leukemia, and I won’t be surprised if he’s too tired to come on out.

We’re just kind of enjoying the last day of our vacation. I’m picking up here and there and that’s about all I’ve done. I’m good with that.

Now Rosie how could OYKW know that unless I inform him that he does indeed have the pleaure of takin’ me to breakfast? We went to Waffle House. I had poke chops and aigs. YUM! I also got N.O.L. after deheathenization. We stopped by Maryland Fried Chikin cause OYKW had him a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for some. He’s home doin’ laundry and is comin’ back to da cave for dindin. I’m makin’ a pot roast with new N.O.T., and baby carrots. Ima cook up some butter beans and baby cornbread muffins plus a peach cobbler. We haven’t done much else, but we be eatin’ good!

I finished up laundry a little bit ago. Rah.

Unofficial ran guage said we got an inch and three quarters of rain last night. It’s lookin’ cloudy out to the north and west, so maybe more later.

Wow Waffle House. I’ve always wanted to stop at one of those when travelling. None here in my neck of the woods.

When we’d pass one on the road, I’d drive the gf nuts with jokes about a house made of waffles (how come it doesn’t melt when it rains? I’m surprised critters don’t eat it down to the foundation, etc.)

No Waffle House for me, but I took the gf, her mom and step-dad (the birthday boy) out to Ean 'n Park for breakfast. Usually I’m the only one raiding the buffet but to my surprise, they all joined me in buffet-raiding today. I grabbed some strawberry muffins to go while paying the bill and now those muffins are awaiting their imminent demise.

WAFFLE HOUSE! My home away from home.

Went to the pool party. Came home already, I wasn’t drinking, and pool parties just aren’t as much fun without beerverages. :stuck_out_tongue: Delicious grilled chicken and corn though. Off to cook food or something.

It is official. We are heathens. We are having a glass of wine at (what was) 4 PM here on a Sunday.

Brisket is nummy and is waiting to be eated with N.O.T. salad and a baked sweet potato that is baking. House is vacuumed and the tile has all been steam vac’d and I have dusted. mr ems has hand cut 16 rib eye steaks from the meat we got at Sam’s. I am thinking steak for supper tomorrow

Now we are chilling watching TV. I am already in my jammies.

i forgot to mention - Singing In The Rain was on the other night; my two favorite numbers are “The Voice Lesson” (Moses supposes his toeses are roses…) and 'Fit As A Fiddle" because they showcase two extraordinary hoofers.
A little bit ago, a friend posted a video clip from the 1981 Steve Martin TV special, in which he paced Gregory Hines tap for tap in “Fit As A Fiddle”. It suddenly occurred to me, now that another 30 years have gone by, we need another hoofing pair to tackle the song - Neil Patrick Harris and Daniel Radcliffe. I’m thinking of starting a facebook group to spread the word the same way her fans convinced Betty White to host SNL in '10. (Yes, I have way too much time on my hands - why do you ask?)

We got a few spits of rain, but nothing that mattered. Maybe some overnight… maybe.

I’m crocheting up a storm, so there’s that. And it’s a nice quiet evening. We had a late lunch of bad Chinese, so I don’t have to worry about supper, so yay.

We got a volunteer for tomorrow? Not me this week, sorry… but maybe I’ll take next week.

But for now, I’m turning off this machine and reassuming the crochet position.

MWAH!!!

I just wanted to let you guys know I really enjoyed the MMP this week, so thank you all !

Home. Tired. Skimmed.

I caught two bass and two brim in The Dad of The Boys Pond today. Another tiny brim tried to commit suicide at my feet. It jumped out of the pond as I walked by with the fishing pole. For some reason, fish want to die at my hands. The Boys caught nothing, but Culinary Boy did reel his line back in with just a worm head on it, so he at least fed a fish.

My grandma’s looking very old. She’s also mad as a hornet. She informed me in no uncertain terms that now she is a “cripple for life because they had to take off my leg”. They took off one of her legs at the knee. She’s living up to the K Family tradition of living forever and being mean as hell. (Whether one causes the other is up for debate.) But she is nowhere near as spry as she was. I don’t think she’s got much longer, but she’ll go into that dark night kicking and screaming. My grandma is awesome.

That’s weird, I know. You have to know my dad’s family to get it.

My dad’s doing well. He let me borrow his 1977 copy of *The Sword of Shannara *because Terry Brooks is going to be in Hippy Hollow on September 6th and I’m going to try to get an autograph. I also got my seven boxes of books out of the attic while I was there. Now Culinary Boy believes me when I say I have a **lot **of books. Wait’ll he sees them unpacked.

Your grandma kinda sounds like mine, Spaz. She’s been gone for a long time, but lived to be 93 and was very spunky till the end.

Your posts are making me hungry, mmmmmmmmm.

I’ve had that happen, too, FCM (possibly with the same recipe, even). Very annoying, isn’t it?

Didn’t do too much today. Played scrabble - twice. Went for a long walk. Cleaned up some bookmarks that were annoying me. Watched a movie online and played some games on the iPod. Found a power strip that will accommodate all the living room gadgets so that everything possible can be plugged in at the same time. (The phone was unplugged all day today, which was pretty much the last straw.)

And now it’s Sunday night.

Anyone feel like getting us started in the morning? Or later tonight, for that matter?

Link to possible subjects is in my sig.

Hugs all.

GT

Some are born to greatness, others have it thrust upon them, and then there’s me, stumbling blindly forward and starting this week’s MMP.
