There have been a few limited-edition soda flavors coming out lately, so I thought we needed a good place to stash discussion about it.
I was at Food Lion today when I looked into the Pepsi cooler and found a Dr. Pepper with a deep purple label.
Dr. Pepper Dark Berry.
How does it taste?
Surprisingly good. Kind of like Dr. Pepper with blueberries in it. The distinctive Dr. Pepper “twang” is lacking from the soda, which is a relief, because as much as I used to love Dr. Pepper when I was 18, I can’t really stomach the stuff nowadays.
4 out of 5 stars. Check it out while supplies last.
Last summer i enjoyed Canada Dry Bold Ginger Ale, mixed with Paul Newman’s Virgin Limeade. The Bold Ginger Ale was spicy like a ginger beer. I called my concoction a Virgin Mule.
But last fall the Bold Ginger Ale disappeared from the shelves, and hasn’t come back yet. I have my fingers crossed, it was a puckeringly good beverage.
They also have had sides for thanksgiving, along with many other holiday flavors like Salmon Pate, Brussel Sprouts with Prosciutto, Dinner Roll, and Antacid!
Wow, forgot about those flavors. I’ve had a mild curiosity to try them in the past, but have never gotten around to it. I’m pretty sure I used to see them in party stores a few years ago but not recently. Qadgop, have you, or anybody else, tried one of those weird Jones soda flavors? Wondering if they’re just disgusting or somehow actually not bad…? Are they sweetened, or savory tasting? Are they strongly flavored, or, I’m guessing, more of a seltzer with a mild hint of the indicated flavor?
I couldn’t tell you. My daughters experimented with a few of the flavors, but my recollection of their commentary is limited to quotes like “weird” and “curiously compelling”.
I expect someone out there on the 'net has tried them and posted a review, though.
Yeah, that’s something I’m going to have to google today.
I said, I’m guessing it’s more of a seltzer with a mild hint of the indicated flavor, but then, the aggressive caramel coloring in the ‘turkey and gravy’ soda pic I posted seems to indicate otherwise…
I didn’t think of it as limited edition at the time, but Faygo had Candy Apple soda and it was their best flavor, probably one of my favorite flavors of pop/soda I’ve ever had.
I knew it was a bad sign a few years ago when my local store had a clearance sign and the 2-Liters were 49 cents. I bought three of them and that was the last I saw of it.
Chek (soda brand of Bi-Lo, Winn Dixie, and Harvey’s) makes a good green apple soda.
Speaking of Faygo (this will age me)- I really wish they’d bring back Faygobrau. It was a good ginger beer. The U.S.A. needs a good, hot, inexpensive ginger beer. Sure, I can get Goya at Publix, but over a dollar a bottle for 12 oz. is crazy.
I don’t know if it’s a limited edition, but I really like the Dr. Pepper & Cream Soda. I drink the Zero Sugar version. It’s been around for a couple of years but is sometimes out of stock.
Well, I guess $33 for one bottle from your link is indeed more than a buck a bottle. I thought my favorite, Fever Tree, was expensive at three fifty a bottle.
