Lindsay Lohan goes back to jail

I have a different take than the rest of you.

I don’t care who Lindsay Lohan is, but the image of a citizen being hauled away in handcuffs because she chose to put a certain drug in her own body is truly disgusting, and a violation of a human’s right to self-determination. She wasn’t hurting anyone but herself. If she wants to kill herself with drugs, that’s her business. Lock her up if she’s caught driving under the influence, but otherwise leave her and every other drug user alone.

My hope is that fifty years from now we’ll look back on the drug war the way we look back at prohibition - a puritanical mistake that cost millions of citizens their freedom and helped build a global criminal trade that has destabilized countries and led to misery and death for millions of people. It will be one of the shames of our age.

She wasn’t initially arrested for doing drugs, she was arrested for driving drunk and crashing her car. That is a significant danger to others. Everything since is all just probation violations.

You realize that if she had just been a regular person doing a few lines of coke in her house before going to the club in a taxi, no one would be the wiser, right? She’s in trouble because she did put things into her body, got behind the wheel of a car, and endangered the lives of everyone in the path of her car. It was only then that she was put on probation, a condition of which was she couldn’t do any drugs for the duration of her probation (because, you know, once she’s off probation, it’s not like anyone would be checking up on what’s going up her nose at home). All of this is because* she endangered the lives of other people through her poor and selfish decisions.*

Edit: Or. . .what Dio beat me to!

I don’t wish her ill, but like Robert Downey, Jr. only serious jail time looks like it will straighten her out. Only when she is in a situation where she is nobody special and where she only gets the privileges she earns will she realize that she is throwing away her life. Because she is actually talented. Granted “Mean Girls” and “A Prairie Home Companion” are the two best things she’s done, but Johnny Depp used to be “that guy on 21 Jump Street” and Tom Hanks was “that guy on Bosom Buddies”. People can turn their lives around and rescue their careers - Drew Barrymore being another example.

A different judge has just allowed her to be released on bail, but she has to wear an ankle bracelet. So she can be out on the town again tomorrow night. There will once again be no lessons learned.

Disclaimer: No, I do not read TMZ, I saw this link via Google News.

Who was right legally in this case. “No bail” judge or the subsequent “yes bail” judge?

Does her ankle bracelet explode if she takes a drink?

She was in the recent Machete flick, which was good wholesome blood and sex fun and she was the best part of the movie. I’ll miss her young, naked body on the screen. Where’s the kleenex? Seriously, she is endangering others driving while high and needs to learn the ways of Robert Downey, Jr., 'cept the part about keeping her pants on during filming.

She’s 24 years old and she’s been having substance abuse problems since she was a teen. Her dad is some kinda fucked up weirdo and her mom likes to use her as leverage for her own goals. The girl has an addiction compounded by legitimate issues and none of you would give her shit for it if she were just some random poster on the Dope.

I know she was a cute teen actress with a promising career that she managed to completely ruin and I know she probably has more money than everybody in this thread put together and schadenfreude can be a lot of fun in that circumstance but goddamn, she’s basically still just a kid and maybe you could show just a tiny bit of sympathy?

Why? Nobody tied her up and forced her to start taking drugs, and if it was any other kid in the US with the exact same record they would have been put in the slammer and not let out with a tiny wrist slap. As QtM has said several times, an addict has to hit bottom and want to get clean, and since she doesn’t ever seem to get a real wake up slap to the head with a real jail sentence and real punishment, she wont hit bottom until she kills someone and then has to get a seriously heavy punishment.

I don’t think your expectations of what happens to normal people caught with small amounts of drugs are accurate.

Can anyone provide a cite that will prove the legal proceedings surrounding Lindsay Lohan have been significantly different to what would happen were she just a “normal person”?

Cocaine and amphetamines are not pot or alcohol, and tend to get one jail time unless you are a celebrity.

I started a GQ thread a few weeks ago about how probation is handled for drug offenders. I got some very informed answers.

Basically, probation is setup special for drug cases. The judge has broad powers to get the person in rehab and off drugs. People that don’t follow the probation rules are given short jail sentences. It’s the judge’s best tool to “shock” the person into taking the rehab process seriously.

This is a GQ thread about probation procedures for drug cases.
It is not a Lindsay Lohan thread. Please don’t post rants about her there. The mods will toss the thread into Cafe Society. :frowning: It’s a very good GQ thread about legal procedures. Let’s keep it that way. Please.

While all of this is about “probation violations” after a drunk driving conviction, I’m having a hard time with the fact that it’s all about drug tests failed, or setting off the alcohol monitor she was forced to wear, which is in effect policing her body, not her behavior. Especially with regard to the alcohol, since she’s of legal drinking age.

Lindsay Lohan going to jail again isn’t going to make her safer, surely isn’t going to make anyone else safer, and the schaudenfreude is rather appalling.

May I remind everyone that Lindsay Lohan has spent more time in jail for, essentially, weaving during a lane change, than Dick Cheney has spent for creating a war out of whole cloth that has thus far killed several hundred thousand people. Something about that demonstrates everything that’s wrong about this nation.

The parole system can easily be manipulated by anyone with common sense.

  1. Show up for the weekly counseling
  2. pass your drug test
  3. keep your dumb ass out of trouble

Chances are good the probation time will be reduced. Then you can resume your party lifestyle. Simple isn’t it?

Lindsay Lohan is either too stupid or too addicted to get her shit together for even 6 or 8 months. Her probation would have ended 2 years ago if she used a little bit of common sense.

I’m beginning to realize LL is too addicted to stop. That was Robert Downy’s problem. He was a hard core addict. It took ten years for him to get straight. I lost count of his jail and prison sentences.

It seems that she failed the very first drug test that she took, which makes me think that she has a cocaine addiction. Because 99% of potheads would be able to stay off the marijuana to keep them out of jail. With cocaine, you just do not care.

I saw Lindsey Lohan in something called “Georgia Rule” and made it about halfway through the film (because of Jane Fonda basically) and I just hated the Lindsey character. Conceited, rich, pompous, full of herself, just a dirty motherfucking shit talking human being. This to me seems to be the girl’s general character.

The problem is that Americans love their famous criminals unless you are black and killed your white ex-wife in Brentwood. She actually looked good in her most recent mug shot.

To rich cokeheads: Please don’t do cocaine and drive. Don’t take the shit with you unless it is in a sealed container up a bodily orfice. Rich people, get a driver. Get some Mexican from in front of Home Depot and make him your driver and dope connection. If he gets busted, you can claim that he stole your car after plying you with Roofies.

Sing a song…

Lindsey Lohan is a cunt.
Her cat looks like Alan Funt.
Do a big line,
It’ll be fine,
I have fake urine,
for 9.95…

Uhm, wow Captain Midnight, really?:dubious:

Don’t judge him too harshly. He’s really high right now.

Yeah, really? 9.99 would work better in that rhyme scheme.
