That was great - love it! A picture for the ages. I assume that’s your daughter? Years from now, on her wedding day, you’ve gotta include that one on the PowerPoint slide show that’s played at the reception.

Mine is a satellite composite picture of our planet earth at night, from space.

The first version was this “Astronomy Picture of the Day” from 27 November 2000 (link to the article).

I kept it that way for many years until NASA rolled out this update from 05 December 2012 (link to that article).
I like seeing things such as the mouth of the Nile, in Egypt.

Ha! Love it

Heh–excellent plan. Yeah, that’s my girl. She was going to a pirate-themed birthday party, but thought pirates were too scary, so she wanted to dress up like a great white shark instead. A NICE SHARK, as she helpfully labeled the picture.

I have had Metis on my desktop for a few years now.

She looks like she has a future with Reverend Peyton.

it’s from the prometheus ARG

My desktop pic is always something to do with the next movie I’m really looking forward to seeing, so it’s currently this.

Rhea, one of the moons of Saturn that a NASA spacecraft snapped a picture of a few months ago.

In fact, my last few have been NASA pictures. I think my last two were just pictures of the Martian surface from Curiosity.

My home computer. My work computer.

Mine is the cover of A Memory of Light, the book I am currently reading.

Darth Vader died last Sunday. So did Mufasa, Terminator, half the incarnations of James Bond, Clint Eastwood…

Well, OK, it’s the guy who dubbed them for Spain, but damn. My current background pic honors the best-known name in Spanish voiceovers and dubbing, as well as a radio host of long standing.

Gagundathar, that picture is beautiful.

I don’t change mine much, as the icons on top take away any fun in that. (And arranging it where the icons aren’t on top is a pain and slows down older computers.) The default stuff is usually much more designed to be covered up.

So I use the default that came with my dad’s eMachine, (seen in this pic) for my account on his computer (as does he), and the Windows XP “Prairie Wind” on my computers (tiled as in that image). I only personalize the colors.

Your kid is being a shark! I love it! Here is an old picture of my kid being a lizard about to catch a fly. She still loves lizards but now at 13 she doesn’t pretend to be them anymore :frowning:

At the moment I have a caricature of Sir Malcolm Sargent (aka Flash Harry) conducting the Last Night of the London Proms. It’s by Gerard Hoffnung.

I tend to choose several photos and let them slideshow along. Currently I have a set of train photos going - this is the pic of the moment: Waiting for the Train

My parents and I took my son to the park last week, and being 8, he had to climb all the old cannons. I took a few pictures, and used one as my new wallpaper.

I don’t bother with desktop backgrounds; I’ve always got windows covering them, so why bother? Now, if I could have a slideshow lock screen… Apparently this is coming in Windows 8.1.

You are a lot younger than I thought.
