Lit Drama - FX's Damages

I was up and couldn’t sleep, so I caught some of Connan last night. Did anyone else here see Glenn Close?

I feel like I’m seeing her EVERYWHERE now-a-days…but she is really great and deserves all of the press she receives.

Apparently, she is going to start some kind of doggy-blog or something, for people with dogs/dog lovers…

That’s somewhat of a stretch from Patty Hewes, huh?? Ha ha ha… :stuck_out_tongue:

I refuse to watch the show based entirely on the obnoxious as hell “promo” thingies FX runs in the corner of the screen during other shows. Who the hell thought that sound was a good idea and that I’d want my shows interrupted by fire & explosion noises with “Damages!” displayed in the corner?

:smack: Yeah…I hear that. Unfortunately, I think it’s a sign o’ the times and fair game on television now-a-days. Heck…even PBS is doing it to some degree!!?

Anyway, you should check it out if you have the chance…especially, if they re-run any of the 1st few eps. and/or encores…it’s a really great show!

Does anyone know who sang that version of “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” that closed Tuesday night’s episode?

Greg Laswell covered the song. Very interesting rendition, and apt for the scene. Took me until he sang the chorus to realize it was Lauper’s song.

Thanks! I agree – it had a haunting quality that stayed with me after the end of the episode. I just found it on iTunes – he’ll probably get a bunch of downloads out fo this.

Yeah that was a nice rendition…A lot of my friends were asking about that song, too…I’m sure Greg is going to get some good coverage for it!

So, are Patty and Frobisher getting nasty or what? They completely wrecked that girl Katie’s life!!?!

I dunno. Katie’s culpable too. She lied and kept lying even after Patty caught her in the lies. Plus, she accepted Frobisher’s money and then turned on him.

One of many things I don’t understand in the show is why she signed a confidentiality agreement with Frobisher and then talked to Patty about Frobisher. What was in the confidentiality agreement? Looks like Katie was trying to play everybody, and she got caught.

I’m dying to know what Katie told her brother. More lies, or maybe the truth this time?

That did seem particularly ill-advised. She knew she wanted to testify against Frobisher, yet still signed the agreement with him (on Patty’s advice), including the medical waiver. Due to that waiver, they knew about her being in rehab, etc. Was there a reason she signed it? Just to get Frobisher off her back, knowing a judge would release her from it?

Katie doesn’t seem like a very nice, or bright, person. She lied to Ellen about Gregory and about seeing that guy in the parking lot, and then when it blew up in her face and she perjured herself, she blamed Ellen… for what exactly? She made up her own mind to testify against Frobisher; Ellen never pushed her. Yet somehow, in both Katie’s mind and her brother’s, Ellen is wrong. I don’t get it. If anything, Ellen should be angry at Katie for making Ellen look stupid for trusting her.

I really wish I knew what Patty’s game was in all this. Every time I think I know what she’s up to, I’m wrong. I guess that’s what keeps me watching the show. When Tom was rehearsing Alice in Wonderland with his daughter, he said the line about the Red Queen, "We all know she’s going to win-- it makes it hardly worthwhile to play the game! I think that line was foreshadowing…

I don’t think Katie read it before she signed it. But Patty knew what was in it, which means Patty knew about Katie’s history. Patty hasn’t been truly surprised yet. It’ll be fun to try to connect the dots when this is all over.

I’m curious about the shots fired at the night club in Florida. Why use gunfire to establish a timeline?

Man, the tension is amping up each week. Hurray, FX! How many episodes will there be?

IMDB lists 8 episodes. TV Guide lists 6. I refuse to go to FX’s website. Why can’t they ever just put the basic info up and forget about the glorious but time-wasting videos?

I think we’ve seen five. I can’t imagine that three more would wrap things up.

Epguides lists 13, which sounds about right for a FX show.

Thanks for that!

They list Tate Donovan’s character as Tom Kent. I thought his last name was Shay or Shays.

Ha ha…I wasn’t saying she didn’t deserve any of it…just mentioning how they messed-up her life…then again…she was already doing it to herself…c*caine is a hell of a drug…

But yeah…there are plenty of eps. left…and even a Marathon next Monday!!!

Anybody still watching this? My wife and I caught up on the last three episodes on Tivo last night and while the middle kind of sagged, it’s picked up the pace again.

I still don’t understand the need for the “Lisa”? character that’s trying to break up Ellen and her fiance (whose name I can never remember).

Lila – over at TWOP there’s speculation that Lila is David’s killer.

But yeah, her role is puzzling. She’s been established as a stalker type, so maybe she’s not connected to the main mystery at all.

Ted Danson is marvelous in this, isn’t he?

I’m really stoked to see how this turns out, and what they’ll do for a second season, if there is one.

Ted D. is very good. My wife said it was the role of a lifetime. I don’t know if I’d go that far, but he’s acting as if he’s enjoying his work.

I don’t buy that Lila is David’s killer - I was thinking it was the same men who were planting bugs (or whatever) that David walked in on. I was thinking that she’s a spy/something-or-other for Patti Hewes. The scene in Tuesdays episode where she (Lila) was sitting at Ellen’s computer kind of (in my mind) lended credence to that.

Or maybe not. We’ll find out soon enough…

Yeah, that makes more sense, one of the buggers killing David.

I don’t know about Lila working for Patty. If Patty has people spying on Ellen, she would have known about Ellen’s meeting with George Moore. Maybe she has Lila spying on David, since he’s Katie’s brother. But it’d be easier to just have someone spying on Katie.

The machinations are beyond me. I hope all the pieces fit when the mystery is solved.

I missed last week’s episode (stupid DVR only recorded the last few minutes of it, possibly because I was also recording Boston Legal and Law & Order:SVU, and I may not have properly set it to record the second showing of Damages). and am now very confused. Is there a summation of the plot available anywhere?
