Hostess owns the Dolly Madison brand.

Yes, now they do (or both brands are owned by the same company). But it didn’t use to be that way; they used to be rivals.

But I’m having a hard time finding a cite for this online. The best I could find is a page on Google books from the Encyclopedia of Junk Food and Fast Food, which says that

• Hostess snack cakes were made by the Continental Baking Company
• Dolly Madison snack cakes were made by the Interstate Brands Corporation (starting 1937)
• In 1995, the Interstate Brands Corporation acquired the Continental Brands Company

Drakes Cakes. I remember them from when I grew up in NJ I the 60’s. A few years ago I found the peanut butter filled chocolate cakes here in Arkansas. I guess I remembered them better than they were.

Just me and you with the Drake’s love. As I mentioned, the pies were heavenly. Especially the cherry pie. With Hostess, you maybe got a piece of cherry with your liquefied sugar but with Drakes, each mini-pie had at least a cherry and a half!

We used to say, re Hostess, that there was a reason they couldn’t call them “cherries pie.”
