Voice–activated controls for the TV. My BF has an Xbox for Netlifx etc. and he just TELLS It what to do (“Xbox, turn of!”) and oh my good heavens does this beat the crap out of having five remotes taking up half the coffee table.
Probably not quite as old as you might like, but Glenmorangie Sherry Wood Finish
Wigwam socks are my fave. My mom worked for them in the 1950’s.
My own maple syrup from my own tree is my favorite maple syrup. Had some just last night, with strawberries. 2016 vintage.
I’m loving this thread.
I use cloth napkins all the time, even by myself. Years ago, I went crazy and bought lots of them. I usually eat dinner at my coffee table (with drawers) and I keep several napkins in the drawer (along with nail file, TV remotes, cat’s pills, and other stuff). You don’t use a new one every time, but only toss in the wash when they need it. I love how soft the linen ones have become after years of washing.
I usually eat in front of my computer, off Dollar Store plates, with whatever absorbent material is handy. However, I do use one of my two place settings of sterling.
Even plain ole hash becomes a savory blend of quality blended meat and spices when sitting on Royal Danish.
Nah, it’s still greasy mystery meat, but with a touch of elegance.
Old linen is truly wonderful.
An ice based neck cooler for hot summer days. You can get an ice pack for your neck, or if it is really hot an ice vest. They make summer much more bearable.
I wore wingman sport socks for decades, and then in the last year I couldn’t find anyone who carried them anymore. I was very bummed. I didn’t think you could buy them direct. :smack:
Thanks!!
Ten years ago or so, I was in the mood for a meal from McDonald’s. So I brought a Big Mac, fries and a vanilla shake home. I ate the Big Mac and fries off a plate (with ketchup in a small bowl), with the shake transferred to an actual glass.
Still fast food, but elevated slightly.
At the recommendation of my massage therapist, I plunked down almost $200 for a TempurPedic pillow. I was raised not to spend a lot on things like that, so I tossed the $5 Target pillow off the bed and slept on this thing. Oh my god. I had no idea. I haven’t woken up with a crick in my neck since. Now I’ll drag it everywhere with me even though it must weigh ten pounds. Totally worth every penny.
I’ll second this. I’ve had one of those pillows for a year or two now and I don’t think I could sleep on anything else. I don’t get the pain in my neck or shoulder anymore. So worth it even if it was crazy expensive for a pillow.
Duluth Trading Company’s Armachillo underwear. Expensive. So worth it.

This is interesting. I’m a total pillow [del]slut[/del] connoisseur. My best pillows are giant cloud-like, frothy confections from Cuddledown (but NOT down-filled-- synthetic only). I tried a memory foam pillow once and hated it. It felt like a spongy block of wood. So tell me more about the Tempurpedic pillow and its benefits. Maybe I missed something.

Hehe. Did I mention the when I’m using my old linen napkins, I’m eating on the super-cheapie paper plates. ![]()
Space heater designed for a bathroom (extra safety features for an environment with water nearby) that comes with both a thermostat and a timer - I can set it to start 15 minutes before I wake up and no more cold toilet seat! Warms up the bathroom so showers in winter are much more pleasent. Can heat just the one room hotter than the rest of the apartment when I need it to be warm without blowing the heating budget overall.
Can you share the make and model?
Holmes bathroom heater with preheat timer
Looks like they have a couple different models. I purchased that particular one because 1) it was one sale and 2) employee discount at the store. You can mount it on a wall if you want. It’s worked out well for us.
Another one: electrically reclining beds. . Ours are from IKEA, about 300 USD per twin base. Good quality.
We really wanted another room in the house to withdraw into a quiet space. With our electrically reclining beds, we read sitting in our beds or watch our Ipads. In adding such a new function to the bedroom, it’s like we gained an extra room to our house. In the end, our electrical slatted bed bases were the reason we could stop thinking about building a studio in the back yard.
Only disadvantage: while there are systems for two-person matresses, we got single mattresses for our queen sized bed. And now we have a wide divide between the two matresses.

I like sleeping on spongy blocks of wood…
I like a very firm mattress, and it turns out the harder the pillow the better for me as well. I like that I can jam the pillow under my shoulder and neck and it holds the shape. It doesn’t go flat during the night. I used to sleep with two pillows to keep my head elevated and I don’t have to do that anymore with the Tempurpedic. YMMV as always, but that’s why I like it.
I’ve been using one of these mugs exclusively. The coffee stays hot for hours, so I can just take a sip now and then without it getting cold, and it’s leakproof and often just lays between my leg and the arm of the chair.
Oh! Another one-- heating pad and/or electric blanket. Really enjoyable in conjunction with a good book, esp. for fellow folks with poor circulation.
I play bass at church. For my birthday this year I got a Shure wireless rig. It’s not exactly cheap, but I would consider it a little life luxury.
Every time I pick up my bass and walk around as I am playing, without tripping over a cable, I smile.

It ain’t easy typing with one’s little finger crooked, but here goes: Class is serving champagne in jelly jars and getting away with it.
Don’t know who said it, but I like it.![]()

Add a timer (be sure your heating pad is analog, not digital) and flannel sheets. Your bed is toasty warm when you’re ready to sleep. We set the timer to turn off part way through the night, since we’re already warm by then. It can be rather hard to get up in the morning, out of my nice warm, soft nest.
