Little things that made you smile this week

I finished scanning the box of hard copy documents that I started scanning in 2006 with the intention of getting rid of files I have that go back to the early 1990s.

One down, four to go!

Oh, and I hung the first two pictures on the wall of the condo I moved into in 2007.

You are absolutely right. I’m a little flustered today.

Here is Elly(Jelly Belly, Ellington McWhineALot, or Elementary Particle (due to her spastic running around when she sees us looking at her)).

This is our other cat, Breña, also known as Trouble and Fuzzington McTrouble

And this is our beloved Bree, who passed away last month. Nicknames include Bubba (she answered to that one), Fluffington McScreamy and Fluffbucket.

Does that make up for my mental lapse?

I have a new boss at work–this is always stressful and can destroy quality of work-life to have a bad boss.

Well, he sent out a big communication via email and…

He spelled “losing” correctly.
All apostrophes were used correctly.
He stylistically uses a serial comma.

After seeing that, I don’t even care if he possesses managerial skills.

Did you used to write for Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends by any chance?

I don’t even know what that is, so…no. I just like coming up with stupid nicknames for my pets.

My parents are adopting a tripod kitty; the cat was found on the side of a road, with a badly injured leg (likely hit by a car) that had to be amputated. My sister has him until my parents can pick him up. Sorry, no pics yet! While “Tripod” is the obvious choice, my brother came up with a better name. Fraction. My mom insists she won’t call the cat that, but I think it’s sticking…!

I had to smile, seeing my neighbor feed crumbs to the ants on her front walk.

Last night my Emily cat brought me a baby squirrel, carrying it by the back of the neck like a kitten. She came in through the cat door and brought it to the chair where I was sitting.

Little squirrel looked old enough to be away from his mom but not old enough yet to be afraid of me. He was pretty upset with Emily, though!

I’ve thought about raising a squirrel and was sorely tempted. But after holding him close to my heart for a little while, and stroking his head and back, I sneaked out to my neighbor’s back yard, where I think his home is in a pine tree, and put him on his tree.

I needed to sneak out the front door and go around the neighbor’s house so that Emily wouldn’t watch me giving her present away. Neighbor’s motion light came on so she poked her head out to see who was prowling in her back yard at night.

And when I was done reassuring her that there was no cause for alarm I glanced behind me to see Emily sitting a few feet away giving the squirrel a look and then giving me The Look.

Some sneaker I am!

Something that made the whole neighborhood smile was a couple of summers ago when I was taking care of my daughter’s cat, Spam. (Named after that sodium-packed pink loaf of meat, I think, though I don’t know why.)

When I’d call her from the deck I’d get some smart-mouth neighbor asking if I was having problems with my computer.

Yes. Consider your obligations fulfilled.

Ladybugs, ladybugs, we have ladybugs. (I only have one picture uploaded at the moment, but I’ve been taking lots). Larval ladies, too, all over the spirea.

During Baby Story Time today babies inside the program room were looking through the floor window at babies outside the program room - all laughing and pointing at each other like monkeys in a zoo.

We went for a walk along our local canal and there was a very capable mother duck swimming along with her ten babies - seven of them were standard baby brown ducks but three were yellow ducklings! So sweet.

I was propositioned this evening. No use to me, I’m happily not-married, but it’s always nice!

Are you sure? Only this week I finally figured out where one of the nicknames I call the Maine Coon comes from. I knew it hadn’t just come to me, but for the life of me I couldn’t recall where I’d heard it before. Oh yeah, ob. cat pic.

All these really sweet contributions.

I sort of feel back for focusing on money.

My contribution.

On Sunday I told my best friend about one of my coworker friends, Danny. I remarked that he looks enough like my brother and I to be related to us, and that I treat him like a little brother besides.

Last night I dreamed that Danny and I decided to convince our coworkers that we’re cousins. Fastforward to lunch when I tell Danny this. He’s all, “I don’t know if people would believe that-” - only to be interupted by a confused coworker who said he thought we were siblings

I made a yummy meal yesterday: salmon with olive oil, salt, pepper, and a splash of lemon juice; broccoli; and noodles with butter and parmesan cheese. The fish was cooked perfectly and tasted great, as did everything else. I’m getting better at planning dinners, which, being a very inexperienced cook, is encouraging.

I also made a good dinner today, though that one was a bit more hectic, so I didn’t smile as much. Still have lots of leftovers, though, so that’s good.

Kung fu bear.

And of course, while I’m at youtube, you have to watch surprised kitty.

I also discovered that the puppets in Puppetmaster now have 9 movies in the series.

Last year my sister and friend came back from Illinois and had a squirrel with them, who was also pretty young. We named him Rocky, like rocky and bullwinkle, and he was doing allright in our house full of teenagers. We pretty much let him run around in this one room, and he pooed in a box… where he also slept :). It was really neat. he would run around on your shoulders, and he really loved pistachio nuts.

Then he got mean… and wierd… then he died. It was sad - he was ok until whatever clicked in his head told him the situation he was in wasnt right.
