Live Foaling Cam

Drat! Missed it again but it looks like everything went ok.

Ha! First attempt to get up! Didn’t get anywhere, but that’s a vigorous baby.

ETA: Big blaze!

Must be a first time mom. Doesn’t know what to do with the baby.

Yes, she’s a maiden. She spent a fair amount of the delivery on her feet at first, didn’t know what the heck was going on.

ETA: Looks like she’s figured out the licking part.

I’m going to guess filly, with absolutely no evidence for it.

ETA: Well, I had a 50/50 chance to get it right and I blew it – just posted it’s a colt on the Mare Stare board.

Poor boy, he keeps trying but he can’t quite make it all the way to his feet.

Woops – almost made it that time.

ETA: Up at last.

Huh – Atiya may be a maiden mom but she’s being awfully good about positioning herself for baby to get that first drink.

In between bouts of pacing, that is.

Someone’s gonna have to explain the whole nursing thing to her.

And him.

ETA: So, do we finally have latch on?

I don’t like the way she keeps turning her butt to him when he approaches.

ETA: Now they’ve put the lead rope back on her and have her eating grain while the man tries to get the colt latched on.

OY! I think he tried to take the teat – she just damn near cowkicked him.

Crap. Looks like every time he actually touches her udder she freaks and kicks out. Now they’re twitching her.

And she still erupted when he tried to nurse.

She’s getting a little agitated.

Please Mommy…can I have a drink?

Well now everybody is riled up!

She’s still not letting him nurse. She still jumps and he jumps back whenever he tries to take a teat.

He’s trying and she’s not helping at all.

ETA: In fact, she’s not even particularly interested in him, it seems to me.

Crap – threatened to kick again. I wonder if they have any hobbles?

This just posted on the Mare Stare board by the MC people: “Yup, Tiya is not being very agreeable…vet is on her way to help ensure baby gets some of that first milk.”

Yay!

Wow, that’s painful to watch.

No kidding. I’m afraid she’s actually going to flat-out kick him soon because he’s not going to stop trying to nurse and she’s not having it.

I think they should separate them.
