Ah. That could explain it. The feed from the working cam continues to be horrible.
Nobody else looks at all interested in foaling.
No action tonight on any of the cams I’m watching. ETF - How many do you watch at one time?
StG
When I check into the thread I usually open all the cams with mares waiting to foal – so right now that’s … seven tabs open. Clicked them all bim bim bim; off to check on them now that they’ve had time to open.
Okay: Pacific Pintos is still four-in-one and no foals. Centaur has the feed back to switching between the two stalls and it’s still crappy, with Double Freeze’s the better of the two. CeCe at Silver Creek is still holding it.
No signs of foaling at Witt’s and Bowman. At Elements, Jadzia in the big stall looks bored; Misti in the smaller keeps shifting her weight from leg to leg. Nope – now she’s stopped.
Here’s a new one: Wild Acres Farm
Here’s Sunny Pines Breeding Service – another four-in-one cam.
Stony Ford switches between two – one crappy, one not so bad.
Saddlebred or Tennessee Walker? Dunno; the website for Owens loads some crappy music so I split pretty fast.
McGuire Ranch has two mares on cam.
Yikes! This is Glenhill Farm cam 1 – and it’s got sound! LOUD sound. Horse munching hay sound as if the mike’s right in the hay pile! But a very good cam feed. There’s a slider bar for the sound – hit it ASAP. Their cam 2 doesn’t work for me, but cam 3 does and it appears not to have sound.
Woohoo! Just missed a foaling at Big Sky! Four-in-one; one with a recent foal, two with mares still to pop, and one that just out of the oven, not yet on its feet.
Belladonna is switching between two stalls – one pretty good feed, one okay – better than Centaur, anyway.
The little silver dapple stud on the first pic before the camera loads at Wild Acres… OMG he’s CUTE!!
Owens- Saddlebred, definitely. The horse shown is trotting. Pretty palomino stallion, too.
Glen Hill… YIKES that’s loud! Chickens and roosters and misc. birds LOL. Oddly, when I reduce the volume, the camera feed gets smaller for me- does this happen for anyone else?
The donkeys are out in pasture, camera turned off for now. Hope I get to see this birth, I adorw donks! Especially if they are the minis.
Misti at Elements is doing a lot of shifting and pawing. But maybe she just wants to go out or something, I don’t know. I usually just pick a couple of the better cameras and watch those, so I’ve been pretty much all Elements, all the time recently.
Now there’s a person in the stall with Misti, cleaning and taking pictures of her teats. I bet those’ll be posted on the MareStare board before long.
Oh, yeh. You can completely lose the sound, but I have it set very low (still pretty LOUD for its position on the slider bar) and I’m enjoying the birdie noises. It’s a hoot seeing the chickens putter around the stall. The image stays the same for me. Have you tried moving the slider above the image to adjust the size? I must say, that looks like a high-quality operation, doesn’t it?
Ah-hahahahaha – a woman just came into the stall and suggested, coaxed, ordered, shooed the chickens out the door, lol. The mare, Diva, is walking up and down her stall looking eagerly at the aisle – ah, she’s just been taken out.
ETA: Oh! The sound just went off – or went to nothing at low slider and just a hiss at high. Wonder if the sound wasn’t supposed to be on and someone just noticed?
The mare at Big Sky whose foaling I just missed appears to be Bingo Lena Pine – very nice! The foal is by This stud. Can you guess what they’re breeding for? Bingo and her baby are in; the other three are out.
The donkey might be ready to roll! Here’s the tweet as of nine minutes ago: “Back in stall. Had some good rolls. Hopefully ready to get the show rolling soon. We are at 24 hours of white milk.” Although right now she’s placidly munching bedding.
Whoa! Wild Acres is focussed outside right now, four panels of – well, is that a weird setup or what? Ah – they breed minis. Now it makes more sense.
Owens posted this a bit less than an hour ago: “Pagan is 338 days today. WHITE MILK TESTED AND READY TO FOAL.” Tail isn’t wrapped, though.
Now back to our oldies:
Pacific Pintos – STILL no foals! Poor Joanne. Elements – nothing doing; Misti’s still shifting her weight but otherwise doesn’t look ready. Centaur’s showing pretty good feed, but getting an error message across it of stream not found. Stalls are empty, girls on turnout anyway.
CeCe at Silver Creek, Aniya at Bowman, Dream at Witt’s – nada.
Midafternoon report: Nobody’s looking like popping. The sound is now off on Glenhill cam 1, the mare is outside, and a whole flock of chickens are disporting themselves amid the straw.
Good grief. I saw a longhorn grazing in one of the Wild Acres screens. Checked out their website. Turns out they breed mini horses, mini Texas Longhorns, and fainting goats. Also market hogs and market lambs. They say they have only one mare due to foal this year, in June, but they’ve already got her up on Mare Stare and “she could go any time”.
so…while we’re waiting for something to happen, let me just tell you what I saw last night…
thanks to this thread, I am officially hooked on marestare and I pop in to their site quite often to see what’s up, what’s happening…
last night I happened to pop in just as a red alert went up for Jazelle at Twin Acres, so I immediate pulled up the cam. looked like I was just in time for the ‘really big shew’…
(name that reference!).
Jazelle was laying out on her side with foot or feet coming out already and a human helper crouched down behind her, holding feet to keep them from sliding back in…
a minute or two passes, no progress. a second human helper joins the first in trying to assist the delivery. more contractions from the mare, no apparent progress…
next thing you know, the mare is up, not sure if it was her own idea or persuaded by helpers, but she is up with little feet still protruding. mare is remarkably calm.
and…chaos ensues! well, hopefully it was chaos more perceived than real, but next thing I know there are no less than five people in the stall with Jazelle, one at her head and four, yes four! others at her backside, two to each foal leg and they are pulling with literally all of their strength on that foal’s legs!
Jazelle is standing (with a calmness and equanimity that was reminiscent of another sweet mare we all know - sweet Mandy), and four people with legs braced for traction and hands reaching out to hold onto the stall for added support, are literally trying to yank that foal out of her by nothing less than brute strength!
I was    and yeah, I was verily afraid!
It seemed like a long, long time…but probably not more than another minute or two, when finally! foal pops out and is lowered to the floor of the stall. Jazelle calmly glances back, ‘yeah thanks guys, we’re cool now…’
and foal is moving! and big, with legs like half a mile long! and finally, I could breathe again!
y’know, you just don’t get drama like that on tv nowadays! but I was so relieved that everything seemed to turn out well.
I read later on the marestare forum that delivery had been complicated by the foal getting into a shoulder lock, followed by a hip lock. and one of the five people in the stall with her was the vet.
very scary, very exciting and thank goodness, a happy endingl!
oh, and one more to mention…
I’ve been watching this little guy for the last day or two. this foal was born a bit prematurely (at 306 days, i think?) and is so tiny, he only weighs in at about 10 lbs and has had to have his front legs splinted for extra support. he is so little that he has to stretch his neck just to reach the udder of his miniature! mom…
but c’mon…is he not the cutest thing ever?
![]()
Yikes! Scary.
Here’s Happy Appy Acres with a mare at 340 days and supposedly ready to go.
Hill Haven has a pretty good feed.
Iris Hills is switching between two stalls, one with foal, one with mare yet to pop.
SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
His mom’s not half bad, either. I hope the little guy makes it!
It looks like they’re trying to feed the wee one with a syringe. I hoe he makes it.
StG
There’s a low alert on the Owens mare, and she’s pacing a lot. Just pawed.
Which one is that?
StG
This one. Not the best feed but far from the worst we’ve seen.
ETA: Keep an eye on Jadzia at Elements – just a gut feeling. She’s just standing there, but now and then she swings her head to look back.
Also might want to keep an eye on Diva at Glenhill Farm – her tail is wrapped, which it wasn’t last night if I recall, and I emailed some friendly comments to those folks and got a nice reply which included this: “Hopefully Diva decides to foal tonight.” Oh, and to my comments about the sound: “I unplug the sound cable during the day or if there is not a mare close to foaling. I get quite a few complaints because my crazy chickens are so loud.”
Now they’ve put a wee blanket on him, and spread what looks like a towel under him to sleep on. The tweet under the cam feed, posted 19 hours ago, says “Chantilly had a preemie colt on 4/15/-he weights approx 10# & needs leg splints. If you don’t see him up every 2 hours nursing, please call”. I really hope he makes it but have to face the reality that he is terribly fragile.
I’ve just run through all (!!!) the other cam feeds and nothing is happening.
ETA: I’m keeping open feeds to Pacific Pintos, both Elements mares, the Owens mare, and Glenhill, just in case.
That Owens mare Pagan sure is restless. I know what you mean about the wee one. The only thing I can say is that he’s lived for 2 days now, so that’s hopeful. And he did seems squirmywhen they were holding him up trying to nurse.
