Live Foaling Cam

there’s a red alert on Misti at Elements now…

http://www.marestare.com/fcam.php?alias=elements2

Looks like Misti planning to have this one standing up.

Misti’s already got the bubble, but seems determined to have this foal standing up.

Human helper is trying unsuccessfully to persuade her that she would be more comfy lying down…

…and finally succeeds!

It’s a filly! Looks like another sabino with a blaze.

yay! a beautiful little filly for Misti!

looks like she has a broad blaze - almost bald faced, long white socks and some belly white too…another beauty!

Damn, I missed it! Was out having fun with my own ponies, had a lovely ride. JUST NOW clicked into this thread!

Heh – I see Misti’s got the “FILLY” towel lying on her flank as she lies there.

ETA: Got an email from Joanne at Pacific Pintos telling me her girls are restless today and asking me to keep an eye on them. At the moment nothing’s happening, but I’d check in on them frequently if I were you and wanted to see a mini foal pop out of a beach ball.

 now that’s one of those ‘things you don’t see every day’ sights - don’t want to miss that!

Awwwwwwwww Misti’s filly is wobbling around on her feet now.

Lighting a candle to the spirit of Jonathan Winters, I hereby offer the revised, cleaned up, and alphabetized list of all the cams currently or recently to engage us. Will update, add and subtract as we deem useful.

Big Sky: four-in-one. Currently two foals, two still to foal.

Bowman Ranch: overhead of one stall

Centaur Farms: two screens on one cam

Elements Arabians: cam 1; their foal watch page and cam 2.

Glenhill Farm: cam 1 be alert, it’s got sound! Can be LOUD sound. But a very good cam feed. There’s a slider bar for the sound – hit it ASAP. Their cam 2 doesn’t work for me, but cam 3 does and it appears not to have sound.

Hill Haven: pretty good feed.

Iris Hills: switching between two stalls, one with foal, one with mare yet to pop.

Maple Creek Arabians: one cam

McGuire Ranch: Switches between two stalls

A song for those anxiously, impatiently waiting for a mare to foal (channelling Elvis):

Are you restless tonight,
Do you think it’s tonight?
Are you ready, has labor begun?
Does your memory stray to that long-ago day
When you last foaled and knew how 'twas done?
Do the teats in your udder seem ready to burst?
Do you gaze at your flanks now and wonder what hurts?
Is your croup filled with pain, shall I come back again?
Tell me, dear, are you restless tonight?

One of the mares at Iris Hills has started to foal: Lying down/getting up; a shiny bag hanging down under her tail. Just called the people to alert them. Damn – this is one where the feed switches between two stalls.

ETA: Lying down flat and pushing now.

Two persons in with her now. Saw feet push out a moment ago.

It’s not happening fast.

ETA: Woman is standing back, monitoring – ah, jump to other mare, jump back and now she’s pulling, waiting on the contractions.

Mare stood up, baby’s barely got foot out; down again.

ETA2: Two feet out now.

Big pushes! Man helping woman pull now.

ETA: Out!

ETA2: I think this one’s got a star. A popular theme for this foaling season, eh?

Well, that’s good. After getting the foal out, giving it a brief towelling, and tying up the afterbirth, the people have left mother and baby alone. The man went in to check the other mare, loved on her, palpated her butt, checked her udder, then left her stall too.

The new mom seems to have come through the foaling without much stress; she got up fast and looks comfortable.

According to the Mare Stare board, this mare wasn’t due until May 6. Posted on April 14:

Now the people have picked and plumped the straw; Hotsy’s decided to lie down again; man’s giving the foal – who’s been squirming all over the place, long legs flapping – more towelling.

Now Hotsy’s up, and (with some help from the guy) the foal was up for a bit. Back down. People out, woman back in just enough to take photos.

Still no idea whether colt or filly. Hell with it; it’s after 3:00 a.m. for me, everything looks fine, the gender will be posted in Iris Hills’ thread on Mare Stare soon enough, and I’m going to bed.

ETF - Do you ever sleep? Between work, sleep and house and barn chores, I don’t think I’m going to see many births. But I still like seeing the babies.

StG

Sleep? What is this thing you call “sleep”?

Actually, I’m a night owl. Also, working at home means I can jump online at all hours – to the detriment of productivity, but since I’m self-employed, I just fire myself and go back to watching the cams.

Update:

Just had a phone convo with Brian at Iris Hills. It’s a filly! He was grateful for the alert call, said the baby is fine, the other mare on cam is due early May, and he has two more due in late May. He’s noticed the poor quality of his cam feed and plans to talk to Mare Stare about it (I get the sense it’s his first year on that program). I mentioned the varying quality of the other feeds I watch.

McGuire Ranch: The overdue mare foaled last night (upper right): another mare is still to foal (upper left), and in bottom left there is now a sow with piglets! Including a cutest damn black and white baby that just trotted through.

Unless anyone objects, I propose to remove from the list cams that seem unlikely to provide further entertainment/voyeurism: Maple Creek, M&M, Owens, and Unbridled.

Any new ones to add?

Ah, the filly at Iris Hills, who was flat out asleep when I looked in, is up now, has nursed, and looks good.

I saw on the MareStare board that Greetings at Centaur Farms is in labour, and they have the camera there just on her now. Still a crappy feed, though.
