I’m enjoying Loki. I’m finally caught up enough to read this thread and there is a whole lot going on in this thread that simply goes over my head. But I don’t mind, a lot of the details aren’t important to the central story and if comic book people enjoy them then that’s all the better.
One thing that struck me as weird in the latest episode (5) was how strange Sylvia was acting with the bad bureaucrat. None of her actions made sense in the context of what happened before. She had no reason to trust the bureaucrat. And when the backup showed up she uncharacteristically hid. Episode 1-4 Sylvia was kicking ass without breaking a sweat.
“pruning” herself made even less sense. She had no reason to believe that pruning herself would do anything other than kill her.
And where did the tempPad come from in the Void? Plenty of TVA people got zapped previously and they apparently weren’t able to bring their tempPad with them and get out of the Void with it. But Sylvia brings one with her no problem and Mobius uses it to leave the Void. The inescapable Void seems pretty easy to escape.
I normally try not to let these things bother me, but the previous episodes were all so good, and this one, while fun, really contradicted itself a lot.
I follow some Disney news on twitter and apparently in Avengers Campus in California you can meet Loki, and the version of Loki you meet has been changing based on what is revealed on the show.
I think we’ve only seen one TVA person get pruned, which was Mobius, and he got his TemPad taken away first. Also, you still have to deal with the giant cloud dragon when you first get there.
Also, finale prediction here: The founder of the TVA is a Loki who beat the Avengers. He already had two Infinity Stones and was in a good position to get the Time Stone. That narratively ties back to the first episode with Loki losing to the Avengers. It would also explain why the TVA seems to just be Terrans and seemingly Earth focused.
I feel like we saw a couple TVA guards get disintegrated when Loki and Sylvie were trying to get into the Time Keeper’s throne room?
Also, aside from the Nothing, we know (from what they did to the first guard that got her memories restored) that the TVA is willing to eliminate employees who learn too much about what’s really going on. Not a stretch to imagine that a guard porting back after being “disintegrated” would be quietly dealt with before they could spill the bean about what pruning actually entails.
She has some reasons to trust the judge. Sylvie’s assuming that the judge, like the rest of the TVA, is a wind-wiped variant. The other TVA agents were all pretty pissed to learn that, so its not unreasonable to assume that the Judge would also be pissed about it. Plus, the Judge just saw firsthand that that the whole “Time Keepers” thing was a sham. In the circumstances, it’s at least even odds that the Judge is legit switching sides, and Sylvie is at a dead end in tracking down the real power behind the TVA, so she needs someone with access to TVA’s files to figure out her next move.
Hiding is very much in character for Sylvie - she’s spent centuries hiding from the TVA before we met her. When we’ve seen her kicking ass, she’s usually got the element of surprise on her side, and is taking on relatively small groups of two or three. When she’s cornered in the courtroom, there’s half a dozen guards, ready and waiting for her, with more almost certainly on the way. I’m not sure she actually expected to survive pruning herself, so much as just not wanting to give the TVA the satisfaction of killing her themselves.
She could take the judge somewhere sometime but not Miss Minutes and the files that she thought she wanted.
Sylvia has a pretty good bullshit detector and trusted it. Renslayer gave up some truth and as she started to BS Sylvie keyed right in.
At that point there was only one place/time she wanted to go. Another hiding place was not that place. And pruning was the way to get there.
Lots of speculation as to who the Loki power couple will meet there. (Themselves? Another Loki? A reveal of clerk as Kang? Whatever.) But the B plot is also going to be a reveal. What happens with Mobius and Renslayer back at the TVA??? It’s going to something significant to the story and I have no guess what. Anyone?
I’m guessing that either A) There’s another Mobius variant or B) Mobius has actually found out the truth multiple times and has had his memory erased each time.
Sure. But we only know that as a well-informed audience. Sylvia knows shit. Frankly, no one outside the void should know anything about the void. TVA woman shouldn’t know about the void. And even if she did, Sylvia damn well shouldn’t believe her. It’s like your enemy telling you that this revolver doesn’t actually kill you, it sends you to heaven. It is a totally absurd action in Sylvia’s part.
Her life’s goal just went up in flames and the closest thing she’s ever had to a friend was just possibly murder. I can forgive her for acting irrationally.
Reasonable choices, and B is in my mind presumed, has been since the other trophies and drink rings in Renslayer’s office. But : and …
Because exactly this
What else does Renslayer know and how why does she know it?
Was she also duped and “want” to know who has duped her? Or is she more in the know than we are being led to believe?
I gotta think that the denouement of Mobius and Renslayer back at the TVA folds back into what happens with the Lokis at end of time beyond the void. The A and B lines tie together in the final minutes somehow. With an after credits scene that twists it to set up more speculation and/or movie buzz.
Renslayer seems to be basically the COO of the TVA. She needs to know some confidential info just to make sure everything keeps running if something goes wrong. It’s not until she learned that the Time Keepers are a fabrication that she breaks down.
She’s the Goddess of Lies. Seems reasonable that she would be able to tell when someone is lying or not. She’d also understand that the secret to a good con is to sprinkle in a lot of truths, so the whole thing sounds more convincing.
As to TVA agents knowing about the Void, I thought the whole point was that it was another TVA lie. The Void is the excuse the TVA gives its own agents to explain why they can’t travel past a certain point in the future. There’s no real Void; instead, it’s the secret headquarters of the true masters of the TVA.
